  1. Cheers DDboy Switching is pretty vital in a strategy to save money but so is energy savings. Don't forget that when switching you need to check whether tarrifs are fixed for a period and whether there's a cancellation charge for not staying for a fixed period. That all needs to be taken into account when assessing which supplier is best for you. Agree in principle with more independent suppliers as they tend to not have as many shareholders to please :D However don't forget that longer term resilience to volatile energy prices can only really be done by managing your energy consumption. As a carbon footprinter I would be more than happy to do a free assessment of any businesses energy consumption and give you some tips on how to reduce waste energy use. Similarly if we can scale this up through an energy club businesses and residents could really save a lot of money from their energy bills. I'm very passionate about saving energy and carbon so anything I can do to help I'd be more than happy to. Andy
  2. Dear EDFers and local business I'm an energy and carbon expert and have been working on energy reduction projects and policy for around 10 years. Over the past few weeks we've seen a ramping up of energy prices amongst the big six providers which is making life a lot harder for both households and business. I wondered whether there would be interest in pulling together a local energy club. Such a club may be able to share experience and ideas for energy reduction and provide some learning for people to take advantage of in order to reduce their energy bills. You never know we may be able to do some collective projects that save money for business (and if appropriate households)through employing energy savings techniques and products and using a local economy of scale approach. I suspect there may be a lot of great ideas from locals that may benefit the wider community and help to take back a bit more control on energy costs. If interested let me know. Cheers Andy
  3. I'm a sustainability professional mainly dealing with carbon and energy consumption/efficiency so if it gets off the ground let me know as I would be inerested too
  4. Hi Sue We'd need something big enough to fill a small/medium sized theatre. I'm not 100% sure to be honest. it would need to be bigger than a standard pub PA setup. they'd also need 5 mics and a pretty nice mixing desk so I am assuming quite a smart righ would be required. They'd also need someone to operate it.
  5. Dear fellow Forumites The singers soiree (http://www.thesingerssoiree.co.uk/future-events.php )are hosting a charity night on Thursday 12th September and have just been let down on the PA. Does anyone know anyone with a PA, mics and mixing desk that can help out? The charity they are supporting is Shooting Star Chase who help terminally ill children enjoy and be properly looked after in their final few years/months of life. If any of you can help or have any ideas can you pm me. Thanks Andy

  8. Yer but the recent change in permitted development rights would mean it wouldn't cost much to turn it into something else if the lease doesnt sell. Damn flies!

I know this will sound bizarre but it worked for me the other day. Stick some listerine in a spray bottle and spray the flies. It kills em quite quickly. We also sprayed our windo frames and door frames and not one fly has come back Really weird I know but works.
  10. Have seen this myself over the past 6 months. Welcome to the new housing bubble; same as the old one.

  12. I can see why you're a bit annoyed but trust me its no different to other vets maybe only slightly more expensive but with more caring vets which in my experience you can't out a price on. We have ours insured for this reason alone. 17. I'm not so sure of that. My Fiance and I don't eat a lot of meat anymore for a couple of resons. The first is to save money - meat is very expensive - and second is that eating a lot of meat is bad for you. That means I've had to be much more creative with my cooking and while that's been a learning curve I'm now smashing out some pretty ineteresting stuff. I agree that having seperate veggie restaurants does seem counter productive but t6he majority of people eat meat and there's only so much money you have to order supplies for the week of which meat is quite a pricey one. It must be difficult for restaurants to be able to provide a more comrehensive split menu.
  18. Use to go to the Britannia and it was a fantastic pub - quite excited about the Herne now !
  19. seriously UM NOM NOM!!! Its perfect !
  20. Definitely should call it Um nom nom!
  21. Why don't you try hiring a commercial kitchen and get a stall in North cross road?
  22. Hey SCSB79 It depends what the meter measures it in. More modern meters often measure at M3 but older one in ft3. But yes it could be that they have used a wrong calculation although nowadays that's very, very rare as the billing is automated. Sue Remember that prices went up by on average 11% for Gas across the board in October as well so a combination of increased prices and perhaps increased use as a result of a naff summer and prolonged winter could be the reason? Are you a Direct Debit Payer as well as depending on when the contract started could mean you not being able to average out your payments throughout the and having to pay a balnace at the end of each year i.e. if your contract started in winter your yearly consumption will appear bigger than if you start your contract in Summer. And yes I totally am an energy geek and can recommend Uswitch - just be careful of cancellation charges that you can accrue moving from one supplier to another. :D Andy SCSB79 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Check they have not calculated it wrongly by using > cubic feet rather than cubic metres... or the > other way round?? 23. Sue Is it an estimated bill or from a reading you took. If estimated it tends to pick a specific period of time and extrapolates that out. So if you were heating a 3 bed 24hours for a few days and it happens that the estimate calculations is based on that period then it will be abnormally high.
  24. The nearest is the Victoria Inn on Bellenden Road. We've looked at it for the same reasons i.e. sets of parents staying at the same time. The rooms look fine and the pub isn't a raucous one. check out their website. http://www.victoriainnpeckham.com/index.html
  25. Hi guys I need to print out some flight details and was hoping to do so in an internet cafe nearby. Is there somewhere near LL I can do this ? Cheers Andy
