  1. Perhaps a larger cross section of SE22 residents could be welcomed on to the forum? EDF's influence spreads by word-of-mouth, but only within some social circles. I guess everyone in the postcode should get a chance to take it or leave it.. Some edf URL stickers on bus stops? The incident couldn't have happened more locally, there was an entire clubhouse full of kids attending, yet there have been no posts (apart from the venue owner) from anyone who remotely knows any of the youth or parents involved. That's probably good from the pov of the police investigation, but suggests there are some big holes in the social network.
  2. Surely one has the right to fulminate on a shop/restuarants website feedback form in private? All this forum business started in response to g&b publishing my message verbatim on their blog. Clearly they can do what they like, but I get the impression if I'd written a similary sarcastic message to argos about queueing times or whatever, no-one would give a monkeys. Many of you have a good relationship with the shop and I can understand you being defensive. To me as a very infrequent visitor it is "just another shop" who should be able to deal with the odd cranky customer. There's absolutely no need for g&b to apologise on the forum, as far as I'm concerned it should never have seen the light of day in the first place. Or are all irate emails fair game for blog publishing? tomchance Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Personally I much prefer carrying one out wrapped > in paper with no bag, it makes life much easier > when you reach the bench :)-D > > Can't Mac and others who fulminate about their > right to plastic bags just go to another shop?
  3. Erm, what "Anonymous post on a public forum" are you referring to here? The "Anonymous public forum" which is your companies feedback form? In which I identified my full name and email address? This forum post was started *after* you decided to make this all public. Get it straight.
  4. I don't care much about the bag eco-issue. If a shop doesn't want to use them I can't make them, but there's no harm in asking. Or so I thought. A bag contains about 4g of plastic, which is less than most fmcg containers. Obviously it would be awesome to get rid of all packaging, but I don't see why the bags should take the biggest hit, they are rather useful unlike the plastic trays fruit and veg are often packed in. etc.. Anyway my problem with G&B has moved beyond bags. They now see themselves as the next Julian Assange. G&B has a company contact form: http://www.greenandbluewines.com/index.php/CONTACT/Contact-Green-Blue.html So, because I like having the option of a (free) carrier, I decided to send some customer feedback to that effect. Laced with sarcasm, sure, but not downright rude - and heck, I'm an angry customer, that's what these forms are for! Next, Ms Y from G&B emails me back with a lengthy diatribe, containing the key paragraph: "As a business, we refuse to be involved in a hugely irresponsible and wasteful procedure (the offering of plastic bags) to compensate for lazy or forgetful behavior. ". (my emphasis) So bit of a heated exchange, no big deal really. And as Ms Y says, she was in a bad mood. UNTIL - I notice G&B have posted my private message (posted using their company web site remember) on their blog! http://www.greenandbluewines.com/index.php/Plastic-bags-An-Altercation.html I'd say that was bad manners, and they really should have asked. From what I can see the practice of quoting a private email is frowned upon, and is certainly rather unprofessional for a business. http://ask.metafilter.com/45888/Quoting-from-email-intellectual-property-or-privacy-issue If anyone can be bothered reading the whole blog post they'll note my wife has generally agreed that plastic bags are bad and mainly uses a canvas bag when shopping herself. This is as good as public opinion gets on the bag issue, and should be applauded - yet Ms Y fails to notice she is speaking to an ally, and continues the rant. So careful what you say to G&B, they're a bit web-happy, and don't have a "comment" button on the blog. Tsk. I would have posed the bag question on the forum if I'd wanted it aired in public. Overall I'm disgruntled and rather surprised by their behavior. They are a shop not a environmental institution right? Shops are normally a bit more polite to their customers, even ones they don't agree with. The only good outcome I can take from the situations is the villainous "Mr X" name they gave me, it's got a good ring to it.
  5. Hi, I've got a route that works well for Waterloo. I've illustrated it on Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/2hc8x5 For a year or two I cycled up the Walworth Road and then hung a left at the main E&C roundabout. Problem was Walworth road had one to many crossings and that roundabout is a nightmare. I now turn left at Cambewell Green and follow the 185 route to Oval. Hope that helps someone. PS Pierre I read your blog and I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. Heres to safe rides home from now on.
  6. I've thought about this as well. A few years ago the company that ran the 185 went bust, or something. In the meantime this company http://www.bluetrianglebuses.com/ had some "spare" buses (and presumably drivers) that they used to keep the route on its feet. Maybe a company like this could be approached? Not sure what the spare capacity could be used for betwenn 9:30am and 5pm though - I doubt it would be cost effective to send the buses home in between peak hours.
  7. Good - DIY shop to open a bit later, and on sunday - Tandoori Nights, also the Mirash Tandoori (they've got monogrammed carpet tiles!) - Cafe Noodle, an overlooked cheap eats and you can byob - Hong Hong, the man who works there greets my gf with "Hello Lady" which never ceases to amuse. - An X176 that only stops at Waterloo, E&C, Camberwell Green, DH and ED during peak hours. - Not exactly LL but wonder if we could have a chalk board in the park to roughly book the tennis courts, would mean you could wander off until your hour came up.. - More bars to have table football. - Once went to a flamenco night upstairs at EDT, that venue could be used for music more often. Not so good - i have an irrational fear of the EDD. - as above, crossing the road. - the Blue Mountain. The manager is pompous, and doesn't give a crap what his customers think. - Dell's autos. Stay clear of this luddite if you value your life. - the amusements.
