I am in Sydenham and used the local forum to investigate the history of the house I bought there. I was then contacted from California by the great-grand-daughter of the man who built the house in the 1880s and she has since been to visit and brought photos from those days. That's quite a reach - you clearly never know who's watching the forums!

There's a great family run independent garden centre called Alexander Nurseries in Sydenham. Great plants and you can have a coffee too! Close to Penge East station

The quality is fabulous and he will make the job perfect for you. He also gave us a choice of woods in wpdifferent price brackets so that we could choose how much to spend. He also made some really detailed window pieces for us too - all bespoke.

I am looking for someone who can fit a large side gate to our property. The kind of gate I mean is a large wooden type for a driveway and would require the fitting of wooden gate posts set in concrete etc. Any recommendations for this kind of work? Thanks

Hi there, I can highly recommend Alex Fernandez and his team at Crown Joinery. Www.crown-joinery.co.uk He has recently made a new door for us from scratch and fitted it beautifully with locks, draught excluders and real precision. Especially as our house is not quite 'square'. He gave us options foe the types of wood we could choose along with various price levels. He has also just completed a bespoke piece of double-glazed window work for us to the highest standard. Whilst he's not the fastest or maybe the cheapest, If you are looking for craftsmanship and quality he would be my choice. Hope this is useful.

We have provided the fabric and she has sourced the linings (thermal, blackout, lots of options) and everything else that was needed. She even came to fit them at the end and is lovely to work with.
