The club attracted huge press coverage both in the UK and the US, with quotes such as 'ground breaking' and 'seminal'. ID Magazine quoted: ?When THE CAT IN THE HAT sneezes, Clubland catches a cold?. The Independent: ?The term RARE GROOVE was coined around the Friday night?s at ?THE CAT IN THE HAT? club. Marco Cairns (Duffer). "The Cat In The Hat was known as ?The Church? by the hardcore followers. What began as an underground scene eventually broke through the barriers of commerciality to become the mainstream? Femi (Young Disciples) "Imagine a world without songs such as ?Across The Tracks? by Maceo & The Macks, ?Think About It? by Lyn Collins, Bobby Byrd's ?I Know You Got Soul?, the forceful funk of the JB's, the quirky sweet arrangement of Foster Sylver?s ?Misdemeanour?, or the chance to do it good to Charles Wright's ?Express Yourself?. That was my world prior to religiously frequenting the Cat In The Hat on Friday nights circa '84-'85. There was an international cross section of the coolest in the capital, a self-acclaimed church of style, with an unorthodox soundtrack? DJ?s such as Norman Jay, Trevor Nelson, the Soul II Soul Crew and many contemporaries & tastemakers frequented the club. Fabio (Legendary Jungle DJ) "Mr. Sharpe You Are One Of My Heroes. I was a regular at The Cat In The Hat back in the day. You were probably my biggest inspiration of all, a stylish DJ and a man who could dance. I never missed a Friday night at The Cat In The Hat. Along with Lascelle you threw down the finest funk I had the pleasure to hear. The way you stuck to your guns at all times was inspirational; also your fashion contribution, with Duffer. You are a true living legend. ".

  6. The remember the times night has been running in the cherry tree for 18 months & still is(Fri March 7th was last in there ) Always packed with atmosphere. Next event is Fri April 4th.
  7. See video(link) of a DJ night filmed in The Cherry Tree. Does it look Bizarre ?, Does it look like a badly attended school Boy Disco with less Atmosphere ? Some people spend so much time posting their unjust comments on forums, they've lost reality of what a GOOD TIME really is.
  8. I?ve held a DJ night in The Cherry Tree for the past 18 months.. Haruki , Can you clarify what you mean by "I'm almost certainly not the target audience? ???????.
  9. I've staged 12 Events (DJ NIGHTS) at The Cherry Tree over the past year. Most of which have been full houses (see photo Attachment). No one has complained about any issues with the Staff, Management or Owners in that time. Great bar & atmosphere when given the chance.
