  1. Used Glen this week to repair my fridge freezer. He charged ?90 for the call out and fixed it within an hour. Good value I think considering we were thinking of ordering a new one.
  2. We just put a few hours in the middle of the day, to try and stem the worst of it. I wrote an email to the council a while ago, before the consultation started, about our street?s parking problems. Today someone called me to discuss. They were very friendly, and it was a very informative call. One thing was clear from the call: the Council have had a lot of heated objections from both sides of the argument; both pro and against the new CPZ. When they make their final decision there are going to be a lot of unhappy people - whatever the result.
  3. I live on Danby Street and am reluctantly supporting the new CPZ. For the last 6 months or so it?s been almost impossible to get a car parking space on weekdays. Some residents now leave their bins and cones to ?claim? spaces, which drives other residents crazy. I had a nasty experience a few weeks back where I needed to load my car up and was waiting for a car parking spot near my house for 30 mins. When one didn?t emerge, I had to double park for 5 mins to load it up. I left enough space for cars to get past but sadly a lorry came up the road. I explained that I?d be as quick as I could, but it ended with him and his colleague threatening me and my son with violence, and recording us with one their mobile phones while the other one swore at us. It was horrible. It?s just a shame that it?s come to this. We have a good community feel on our street. But the stress of parking is eroding that, and I want it to end now.
  4. We used the London Sash Window Company for our made to measure french doors. They're not cheap but the quality is very good and they were pretty straightforward to deal with.
  5. Thanks for all the comments and messages. We have now sourced a garden fence installer.
  6. Hi, I need some garden fencing put up after the winter winds have blown ours down. I've had one person not respond to me and another give me a crazy quote, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a reliable and reasonable gardener or handyman who takes things like this on? Thank you.
  7. If you check out the trusted traders section, there's a group of college kids who go around and check this sort of stuff out. They come highly recommended. There's four of them I think. They drive around in a van, and have a pet dog. Good luck. And whatever you do, don't suspect the kindly old neighbour at number 21. He's definitely not dressing up, making noises, and then posting about it all on EDF to try and drive the price down of number 19.
  8. We're still keeping an eye out Gill. I don't recall the white hairs on his chest, but if I see the cat again I'll take a closer look.
  9. We're quite far away, so this is unlikely, but this cat has been visiting our cat over the last few days.
  10. Yes... another recommendation for Aston here. I got his details from EDF and didn't regret it. He's just today finished a list of jobs around the house, all of which have been done to a high standard. He's friendly, punctual, tidy and very clear about how he's going to tackle jobs.
  11. I mentioned before that I was going to be working with Tony again, and he has just completed a garden wall (bricks and mortar) and has done a great job.
  12. Further to my grumble above, Tony has been in touch with me and there has been a perfectly understandable reason for the lack of communication, and he should be working again with me in the future.
  13. A word of caution for those thinking of using Tony. He's done great work for us in the past but recently won't return communication with me. EDIT: Now been back in contact, there was good reason for the lack of contact.
  14. I have a big bag of old personal documents that I want to get rid of. I don't fancy spending a long day shredding them with a domestic shredder as mine tends to jam easily and generally be a bit rubbish. Does anyone know of a local place that can dispose of them securely, at a reasonable rate? Thanks!
  15. Our side gate has warped over time, and I think it needs about 5mm taken off the side for it to fit properly, shut and be secure. Anyone know of a reliable, reasonably priced handyman who could help me out? Thanks in advance.
  16. Loved it. Pricey, a little cramped, but amazingly delicious food. Very original dishes too. If you love your food and don?t mind spending a bit more, go for it. If you are after value, big dish sizes and dishes you recognise from other restaurants give it a miss.
  17. I just used Tony Pooley on a garden construction project thanks to a recommendation here and I would be very happy to recommend his services as a result. When Tony came around initially he listened to what we wanted, discussed a few ideas he had and showed us lots of example gardens using his iPad. He then got back to us within a week with a detailed cost. The quote came in about 25% cheaper than our other 2 costs, and at the end of the project he actually came in slightly under budget. He kept us informed throughout the project on how it was going and came up with some great solutions to a few problems that cropped up once he?d started. He?s a nice guy and works with a some reliable and polite gardeners. They all worked through a few very wet weeks in the rain to keep the project on schedule, and managed to not get any muddy footprints in the house either! And at the end of the project the garden looks great too. Here are Tony?s details if you want to get in touch: [email protected] 0208 4028327 07931549144 ?or send me a PM if you have any questions
