  1. I think the houses on Woodwarde Road are nicer and the road much more pleasant than Court Lane (apart from the court Lane Garden-backing-onto-the-park ones). Would take issue with Dulwichmum about Alleyn Road; we looked and almost completed in one of the non-Victorian houses on Alleyn, but the thought of crossing the south circular proved too much - a lucky escape. We settled in the village instead, which is much more convenient for the local primaries and shops.
  2. Guess I've got a sense of humour failure, but these vans are eyesores (and not as amateur/just trying to make a living as they appear). I wouldn't like a billboard opposite my house or a van parked with a huge sign (as these are). If the vans were parked in the normal course of business, that would be fine - but not parked for weeks. There is little enough road space for parking anyway. Not illegal, but bad manners and a bad example. I wouldn't want my house or walls or fences covered in the kind of graffiti that the vans appear to emulate. (I don't much care for the crackhouse aesthetic anyway, which proves how middle-aged I am).
  3. Five pupils confirmed with influenza type A H1N1 - all have received Tamiflu and recovering well. Suddenly very close to home, as it were. Edited: sorry just seen the thread
  4. Congratulations on your perseverance and just rewards. Thanks also for letting us know how you got on and thanks to everyone else for their helpful advice (hope I never have to make use of it). john
  5. Suspected WWII bomb/incendiary device in the "antiques shop" (thought that had closed some time ago).
  6. Given this level of interest (and repetition), why is there no "East Dulwich Map of the Stars"?
  7. I use Ocado too: tried Sainsburys - adequate, Tesco - food out of date, Ocado brill (apart from the cost of delivery; so I signed up for a year of free deliveries). Good food (if a bit pricey) with plenty of life left, very rarely a missing item, helpful delivery people and these days always on time (I sometimes used to get a ver polite call asking if they could drop off a little early).
  8. This evening, turning in from Lyndhurst Grove to Camberwell Grove over that very narrow section of road on the bridge, my wife clipped the road barrier and punctured a tyre. As she pulled over to see what had happened, a very nice guy travelling behind her turned around on Camberwell Grove and offered to help, even though he had small child in the car (my wife was driving a passenger van with six children under seven inside). Several other people passing by also offered to help - by the time I got there, the tyre had been changed and all I had to do was the clearing up. Many thanks for helping us out john hinton
  9. does anyone when the roadworks will be complete - or tell me how to find out, please many thanks john hinton
  10. I do wonder sometimes: someone let their dog run into my front garden and crap on the lawn - thanks john
  11. I lived in Talfourd Road for over 10 years before moving to Dulwich. Always felt safe going home from Peckham Rye station or on the bus, however much I had to drink. I was burgled four times and I even managed to catch a guy in our house once (I grabbed him without thinking about what to do next, but at least he dropped the "swag") but none of this put me off. The road had nice neighbours and the whole area was lots of fun. Nowadays, our immediate neighbours in the village are very sweet, but elderly, and if it wasn't for the school drop-offs and pick-ups, I'm not sure there would be anyone to talk to. In the first month we moved into the village, we saw several blue and yellow police signs warning about street robberies - which Ihadn't seen in over 10 years in Peckham.
  12. best coffee? there is the new Romeo Jones on Dulwich Village, where the staff/owners are embarassingly helpful. (Must go and look up the appropriate threads) john
