  1. I am looking for Italian Lessons for my 7 and 10 year old kids, I would prefer in person. Ideally on Friday afternoon after school or Saturday/Sunday mornings. We live in East Dulwich just off Lordship lane. PM if available. Many thanks Silvia
  2. I am Italian and hate seeing genuine Italian places not doing well in the area but I went in when they had just opened and they were rude (I spoke to them in Italian so thought we could find some common ground there as I usually find...but no..), very unaccommodating and straight up snooty. I said at the time 'mark my words they won't last' and they didn't. As someone said in a comment up here, they didn't realise the market requirements and the different clientele from Shoreditch. They failed to win local customers who would have become advocates for them. Also, extortionate prices for a plate of pasta. They thought they could fool the ED people, they got burnt.
  3. ''I can't believe I've been dragged into an Easter class war on the most holy day in the Christian calendar. Furious. '' Who exactly 'dragged' you in Louisa? Obviously you have too much time to be bored on the most holy day... I find this discussion so ridiculous. I am not from England, therefore I wasn't brought up with your incredible fixation with everything to do with class! I find it normal that when people have the means, the education and the will to be surrounded by 'nice things and people' , would want to do just that...moving to an area where they can enjoy things that are relevant to them. I don't understand people who feel nostalgic about piss smell and dodgy characters. If you do...please feel free to move to Peckham. I have lived in UK/London for 12 years now, from West Hampstead, to FInchley road, to Clapham, Tooting and finally a year ago I moved to ED with my husband and child. And I bloody love it!!!
  4. I would like to recommend Maurice too. We've used him for few jobs now and he's always been very efficient, on time and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
  5. We undertook a complete bathroom refurbish and extension with Luke Cohen of LMC Building Services. We wish we never did. After three weeks of shockingly poor work and completely unprofessional behaviour, we had to fire him and literally start all over again with a trusted builder whom we used previously. The more he uncovered of what this cowboy builder Luke had done, the more we came to the realisation that he just did not know what we was doing. He's an inexpert, unprofessional and immature individual (and surrounds himself with kids just out of Uni with no experience) who should not be trusted with even the simplest tasks. I will not list here all the things he did or not did that are just incredibly poor but just trust me: DO NOT EVER USE HIM!!
  6. I have two wardrobes and a chest of drawers to build, I'm pregnant and not very good at it! Can anyone help or knows anyone who can do it for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance for your help!
  7. Hello everyone! We need to extend a small bathroom (which will involve knocking down a wall and move it of about 1 and a half meters and closing a window) as well as then installing all the bathroom units, tiling etc. Can anyone recommend someone in the area? Thank you in advance! Silvia
  8. thank you all for your help. We have decided to keep our boy at Little Fingers for now as he's happy and seems other children are starting to arrive so he will have company soon hopefully! We'll give it until the summer and see how it goes. thanks again!
  9. Hello everyone, I have just moved to the area and I'm fastly becoming addicted to the forum! Anyway... I have been sending my boy to the new nursery on Barry Road (Little Fingers) but I am considering moving him as they have no children yet and I'm getting tired of their procrastinating to get things started. I am considering moving him to Cherry Tree, however I have just seen some pretty serious complains raised in 2012 on safety and hygiene, which are making me quiver a bit. Is anyone sending their child there right now? How is it?! Please help me making this decision!! thank you so much!
  10. I am responding to this post as I have been sending my boy to the new Little Fingers nursery on Barry Road for the last month or so and I am on the cusp of moving him again now. Not ideal and something I really didn't want to do but I am just not happy with the fact that he's been by himself for the majority of the time over there. The staff (at the moment just 2 - one is the daughter of the owner and another lovely girl) are very nice indeed and Luca comes home happy as he's always been (sometime you just think kids are happy generally no? unless they are mistreated?) but I am not happy to drop him off in the morning and his alone and pick him up and he's alone. He hasn't had any interaction with other children if not sporadically (there's another girl going some time but not full time as he is) and the management doesn't seem to want to get a move on! She has children ready to start at any time and is only now in the process of interviewing for some additional staff! It's just been such a long process and they just don't seem to be pushing it to start properly. they have not put a sign up yet etc. Also, it is a very expensive one - yes they do provide all food which is great, but it is at least ?200 more expensive of the others in the area and the price doesn't go down after the child is 2. I am very sad to have to move my boy again but I just dont have any confidence that things are going to pick up any time soon. Is anyone going to send their child there so my boy can have some company??
  11. Hello everyone, this nursery has opened today! Manager's number is 07971572346
  12. Hi Natalia I would love to meet you and check your references. we live on Lordship lane and have a 2 year old son. Could you let me know when you'd be available? thank you Silvia
  13. Hi, I went to see the new nursery yesterday as I have been sending my child to their sister one in Herne Hill waiting for this one to open, so the owner took pity in me and gave me a private viewing! They are literally there, the builder will take the whole of next week (w/c 6th Feb) to finish up and then they should open. I have to say, despite the dramas and having to wait so long, I think it will be worth it. It's a very lovely space, both the baby rooms downstairs and the toddlers rooms upstairs. Big outdoor space and everything is brand new as you would imagine. If you're interested, call Parveen or email (I left number in a post up here). See you at the gates! x
  14. Hi! Can I join too? what is the next book for February? thank you Silvia
  15. They seem to have opened/registered with Ofsted as they now have a link here: http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/CARE/EY453279 But there's no info as yet in terms of hours or anything like that and albeit I have paid the money (?230) I still have not received an email confirming anything at all! Shocking really...I just hope the manager has got nothing to do with the rest of the nursery organisation!!
  16. OK. I just spoke to the manager again, Parveen (her number if anyone is interested is 07971572346) The opening date is kind of confirmed for 3rd January (99.9%), they're finishing up on the premises, stuff like sound check (?) and they will be emailing all parents on the list with all the info ASAP. They are waiting for the Council final gree light which they have been promised it will be before Xmas. the number on Barry Road is 208. Hope this helps!
  17. Hi, I am about to pay the subscription fee for the new Montessori nursery opening in Barry Road by the Little Fingers Montessori management. Is anyone in line for it? Have you seen the premises or met anyone from the staff? I am doing all this blind as we're about to move to Landcroft Road and are in desperate need for a nursery from January...so kind of trusting it as I've heard Montessori nurseries are good? Anyone who's going for it and can give me any advise/insight would be very much appreciated. thank you!
