  1. Anyone know of the cheapest place for clothing alterations? I have 4 skirts that need taking up. I usually use the one on Forest Hill Rd near Co-op but it's quite pricey. I would lie a place that offers bulk alterations! Ami better off heading to Peckham rye?
  2. @sonic That's so sad, how awful for your son and his friends. Glad to hear the little sh*%ts who did it are in custody though.
  3. We saw plenty of glowing posts about Niko but have to say I would never use him again. I just don't get it. He made me feel very uncomfortable about my choices, like I was a silly woman who didn't know what she wanted. Granted I had a toddler at my ankles who must have been annoying but it wasn't frustration he displayed, just a huge dose of patronising. I also had to chase 3x for a quote. When he did eventually give me a cost, he was very reluctant to do so by email or letter (only text), making me wonder just how watertight (excuse pun) his business affairs are! To be honest, it wasn't so much that as he just made me feel stupid & uncomfortable in my own home.
  4. Hi, does anyone know the real phone number for Dulwich library? The one shown on google and southwark's website go through to environmental services. I also tried Yelp but that must have been a fax number Alternatively, can anyone tell me if the library has a selection of business books? Thanks
  5. That's weird I couldn't find it on Amazon yesterday! X all
  6. The local free paper (southwark news?) recently had an excerpt from a book of which I'm trying to remember the title. It was a memoir about life in Walworth in 1900, where children from south London were known as "the kids from over the water" or something like that. I think the title of the book is similarly titled but can't remember the exacta and Google hasn't helped. Can anyone else?
  7. A genuine question away from the other thread which has moved on to Queston Time. With economists saying the overheated housing isn't going away any time soon, seriously, where the heck is everyone going to live? It's absolutely bonkers. A very senior, successful colleague was in tears yesterday as she simply cannot find anywhere to upgrade her small family from their 2 bed flat to (without compromising hugely on safety and living standards). It's so sad and scary. The future looks bleak for many. .. Optimists, feel free to correct me.
  8. Hi After a pretty rubbish few weeks I'm going to treat myself with either a massage or pedicure and eyebrow threading. Can anyone recommend somewhere in ED/ Peckham rye/ Nunhead that doesn't cost the earth? Or am I better off heading into central London? Thx
  9. Any ideas how/ where to get a shaggy high pile rug cleaned? We shake it out ever so often but it really needs a clean as it's starting to pong! It's this one http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60191346/
  10. Yes, this is true. I suppose we just don't want to keep moving every few years - the stamp duty, legals, moving fees every time - eye watering. Not to mention emotionally never feeling settled. But yes we could have a family in a 2 bed
  11. Another rec for Dr Cliffes. I feel like I'm always there with one ailment or another but never made to feel like a hypochondriac.
  12. We don't know what to do. Our lovely 1 bed, second floor flat has gone up by ?100k too, but we'd still only be able to afford a purchase price of ?440k. What kind of house is that going to get us? We don't yet have dependants bit might do in a few years. A.Sell now and join the 3 bed race - compromising on location? B.Wait another year or 2 - we don't need the space right now - but might be priced out altogether? C. Or enjoy our gorgeous flat and neighbourhood and hope that the frenzy and lack of supply calms down a bit? A dilemma had by many I'm sure. Head vs heart
  13. Seriously. This. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-29180898.html
  14. I'm genuinely frightened. This must be close to hyper inflation?! I heard an agent friend bragging about 3 bed houses in Nunhead climbing from ?450k to ?700k in 18 months. What kind of future will there be for couples on the first rung who need a family property soon but cant afford even an ex council house in zone 3? Do the home counties become super-suburbs and we all pi** our salaries up the wall on train fares instead? At what point do policy makers have to step in and make a London-specific controls?
  15. Would also agree with Esme's comment - found Alistair way too bolshy and salesy.
  16. I'm not sure of anyone whose budget stretches to ?37.50 per hour for cleaning a small flat....
  17. We're looking for a reliable, trustworthy, OCD person to come and clean our 1 bed flat on Fridays every week. We are near Underhill Road and Ryedale. Duties would include the usual plus putting new sheets on the bed. I'm looking for someone who really takes pride in the finishing touches, doesn't just do a rush job. I know people post this a lot, but I get the impression a lot are busy/ unable to commit. Can anyone recommend their cleaner extraodinaire?
  18. Hi - any recs for a trusted (and not silly expensive) bathroom fitter? Our bathroom is very small and we'd be looking for retiling of walls (around 8 sq m ), floors (1.75 sq m), fitting of new sink & taps, free standing toilet. No changes to bath or shower. Plus removal of current units of course. Please observe the Admin's rules when replying! Thanks.
  19. I did wonder how long it would be before somebody clicked on 'read all other posts by..' I'm not sure why you did, but yes, it's been a strange 12 months!
  20. Hi, Someone recently mentioned a drop in yoga class that specialises in posture work, somewhere near Brockwell Park. Have I dreamt this? Does anyone know of the details? Cheers
  21. You absolutely must visit Half Moon Dental in Herne Hill. All of their dentists are OK with nervous patients. It's a private practice but very fairly priced. Unfortunately you may have to wait a while. The recent flooding in Herne Hill seriously affected HMD's practice so it may be a while before they're up and running again.
  22. Hi Ishmael, I work in post production. Whilst I'm not offering to do it (I'm not an editor), I wanted to hopefully give advice. How have you calculated that it's 6-9 hours? Editing a 2 minute film can take an editor 2 days to do. What's the duration of the film? Most freelancers would charge around ?400 per day. You may find a very willing graduate, although most will be more experienced in digital editing. Alternatievely, try a small post house outside of London, e.g http://www.videoimageprod.co.uk/video_editing.htm Good luck!
