  1. We have just had our hall, ceiling and stair walls painted by Vinton McNab. He was available quickly and did a good job at a very reasonable rate. If you need some decorating and want an affordable local painter then I recommend Vinton. His details are - 07708501936.
  2. Hi - we have an old coal cellar adjoining the wall of our lower ground floor flat and we'd like to knock through and convert it into an en suite bathroom. Has anyone done anything similar and can give us their experience? Also can anyone recommend a good firm to do the work? We are looking to get several quotes and would like the work to start in the next couple of months. Thanks
  3. We have just had some work done at our property by Bart and Piotrek from Pure View and they did a great job. They built and installed a bespoke cupboard for our hallway and did other paint and carpentry jobs over a couple of days. Two very polite, tidy and well trained craftsmen who worked quickly and were good value for money. They have done other work in the area but I thought they could do with some more promotion on this forum. We will be using them again. Bart is on 07873507878.
  4. Can anyone recommend a local carpenter who can do some odd jobs around the home? We need some bits of work done including some floor edging and possibly converting some furniture and installing a small cupboard. Any pointers much appreciated. Thanks. PM me if you think you can help.
  5. For the third time in 18 months, we have had our car vandalised. We live near the junction of Melbourne Grove and Lordship Lane and at some point last night our car was badly keyed. The same happened (twice) to our last car in almost exactly the same place. Each time it has cost us hundreds of pounds to repair. We've reported each incident to the police but without any forensics or CCTV, there is not much they can do. Judging by the type of scratches I'm sure the culprit is the same person, so if anyone saw anything suspicious near Mr Liu's / Motortech garage last night (Tuesday 7th) then please get in touch. I'd be keen to know if anyone else living in the area has suffered from the same, because these types of crimes are hard to prevent and are often linked to the same prolific offender. As our area overall is safe it makes random selfish crimes like this all the more upsetting.
  6. Still need this doing. To clarify, these are very large hedges - more like trees at their base. Around 15-18ft tall by my estimate and definitely a two man job with large ladders. We'd also need the clippings to be taken away. Reply if you can help. Around all this week and next for visit to quote. Thanks
  7. Hi - we have some laurel hedges in our garden that have grown very high (15ft+) and we'd like a local team of gardeners to come and trim them down to a reasonable height. We are flexible to accommodate a visit - please DM me if you are interested in this job. Alternatively, reply to this thread if you know someone you'd recommend. Thanks
  8. We need someone to supply and fit a new TV aerial and also to install two sockets in our flat to connect up. Can anyone recommend someone local? DM me if you can help. Thanks
  9. We need a carpenter to resize and fit a set of 5 radiator covers. Each one needs some adjustment, either to height or to allow them to fit properly so the radiator controls can be accessed, and then secured to walls. If anyone has had a similar task completed or knows someone local who could do it, please let me know - or DM me if you're interested in coming over to quote for the job. Thanks.
  10. We want to convert the side cellar in our lower ground floor flat in the spring to create an en suite wet room, and so were interested in local firms who could come and have an initial inspection and quote for the job in the next few weeks. Also if anyone has had experience of doing a cellar conversion and knows a good company to recommend, that would be great. Thanks.
  11. Hi all - Guy is still taking orders. We had a delicious turkey from him last year delivered right on time on Xmas Eve and it saved us a lot of hassle. Entertaining family from overseas this year so a bigger order has just been placed, including for delivery on 24th and again on 27th!
  12. Still looking if anyone can help. Thanks
  13. We have had a set of period doors hung in our flat but we've been let down by the fitter who has failed to finish the job. We need a reliable tradesman to come and complete the work, including varnishing the doors and installing the right striking plates to match the handles. We have guests staying at Xmas so we really need this work completed by then. Does anyone know a good person or firm to use? Thanks
  14. Setting aside aesthetics and the question of space inside the proposed building, I'm unclear on how the EFA think that this design will practically work with the transport restrictions. I expected the school entrance to be on Whateley Road - if only for safety given how narrow the pavement is on Lordship Lane. By the time the school is a few years old, there will be hundreds of kids who will struggle to enter and leave each weekday. I cannot see TfL not objecting to this when the planning application goes in because there is already a busy bus stop right outside. The pick up / drop off congestion is a real factor unless the bus stop is moved further up the Lane but children leaving on foot and parents waiting to collect would still be safer exiting on Whateley. If the design was modified to put the main entrance on that side, then that would help a lot and you would think that extra pelican crossings would also be needed, along with extending the 20mph limit further up the Lane.
  15. We are looking to get secondary glazing installed in our front bay window before the weather turns colder. I see that Walsh Glazing is recommended locally but I'd like to get a few quotes in the next fortnight if possible to compare prices. Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks
  16. Hi - We are in need of a specialist to check out some damp issues in our back bedroom. We are in a lower ground floor flat and need quotes quite soon. We want the work completed in the next couple of months because we need to redecorate and have a baby on the way. Any recommendations? Thanks
  17. Hi - we need to get our old back door replaced. We need a more secure door with a window but ideally not some plastic uPVC type. Can anyone recommend a south London firm that has fitted them a decent back door recently at a good price? Thanks
  18. I would also be interested in any recommendations for a damp specialist. Does anyone know of a good local firm?
  19. We have a set of old iron fire escape stairs leading down into our back garden that needs repainting. Over the years much of the paint has flaked off and rust has set in so we'd like a professional to quote for stripping and restoring the paint on the whole deck and staircase. PM me if you are interested, or could recommend someone local for this job. Thanks very much.
  20. I'd recommend Tandoori Nights. Had two very good meals there recently and the owner is very kind and attentive. You might also want to check out the food hygiene ratings based on recent FSA inspections - some do much better than others...
  21. We'd like a local firm to supply and fit a Victorian bay window with frosted window film on the lower panels and separately, a patterned film on the window above our flat door to give us more privacy. Does anyone know a local glazier who they'd recommend to do this job? Thanks.
  22. Hi, Our neighbours upstairs had a bathroom leak and our kitchen ceiling is water stained but not badly damaged. We would like the stain treated and the whole ceiling repainted, ideally before next Tuesday (24th). The kitchen has a high ceiling and the area = 4m x 3.5m. PM me if you want to fix a time to come over and quote for the work one morning or evening this week. We are on Lordship Lane. Thanks
  23. I would also be interested in recommendations - I need a new fence and gate installed in our back garden. Has anyone used South London Fencing? Thanks
