  1. Hello!

Just looking for some advice really, my husband and I lived in ED before we had our baby but moved away for his work. We are now considering a possible move back with our one year old. When we lived in the area before I found it quite hard to meet people, but I'm guessing it would be different now we have a little one and also the area has changed a bit with the cinema, the brick house bakery and M&S opening up...it was about 3 years ago that we left.

I just wondered if any Mums living locally could fill me in on what it's like with a one year old or young children. For example do you know lots of nice Mums in the area? Are there playgroups/activities? Where I live now I have a what's app group with quite a few friendly Mums and have a few decent shops within walking distance so just trying to figure out if a move back is a good plan for our family or not. Any advice very much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance! xxx

  2. Hello Ladies! I hope you all managed to meet up in the end. I'm running a little competition for one lucky lady to win ?250 of free christening invitations/wedding invitations/birth announcements/birthday invitations...to enter just like my Facebook page and comment why you'd like to win :)

    Good luck! :)

  3. I agree - think this is a great idea. Maybe James Barber could help in terms of whether this is something the council can do?

I'd also love to know if anyone has the number of someone who can do the painted house numbers outside individual houses. There are a couple of houses on Melbourne Grove with this but I am yet to track down anyone who knows how to do it.

  4. Hi! We are moving and need to hire a van for a couple of days to take the stuff we aren't taking with us up to my family in North Yorkshire to store it. We have quite a few boxes. Can anyone recommend a cheap van for hire that we could use for this? My husbands a great and very experienced driver, it would be me, my husband and my brother so one of those with the three seats at the front would be perfect! Thank you!!!!

  5. Hello!

I recently left my job as a designer in an agency to launch my own little stationery business, so if you need wedding stationery, personal stationery, christening or birthday invitations just drop me a line!

My website is at: www.everafterpress.com and you can email me at [email protected]

I am working on a personalized range of stationery but can also design something totally original and bespoke for you, from custom drink stirrers, to rubber stamps!

    Thanks so much,

    Emily

  7. Hey Guys!

So pleased how many people are keen to meet up! I am so sorry, as this was at my suggestion, but my husband has accepted a job in Paris, so it looks like we are going to be moving away from the area for a couple of years! Bad timing as it would have been great to meet up with you all, but it now looks like we will be leaving later this month!!

Hopefully if I move back to ED you might all still live here and I can meet up with you all! Anyway, I hope you all manage to meet up and get on...have fun ladies!! xoxo

  8. Wow! This is great!

I only just saw all these new posts! Shall we go for Friday then if that could work for a few people? I might just send out a group PM (if you can do that), or message you all individually, with a venue and time on Friday night?

  9. I agree with Paulipedia's posts.

We also only go to Toast, it's the best place around here by far, I also don't mind The Actress or The Clockhouse pubs.

I don't find The House of Tippler v appealing TBH...I think you can tell when a bit more thought has gone into the theme, quality of products, interiors, graphic design etc of a place, and that shines through when done well.

Also agree that cosy in the winter and outside tables facing the sun, or big skylights in summer would be awesome.

I think there's definitely room for another bar...not everyone who lives here has kids...I think a good daytime coffee place serving good brunches/eggs benedict/ interesting smoothies etc would also do brilliantly, don't know where you can combine this with your evening offering.

Good luck with it all :)

I wouldn't even consider going to House of Tippler any more. Is it that different to how Liquorice used to be? Doesn't strike me as a place of quality. More cheap and cheerful.

Toast would be my default choice now. Knowledgeable friendly staff, good quality food and drinks, buzzy atmosphere. Friends who have lived here for the last 8+ years all go there now.

I would look to [www.employeesonlynyc.com], [pdtnyc.com] and Hix Bar in Soho for inspiration but you seem to be on that track anyway.

The holy grail is having something dark and cosy in winter and light and airy in summer, not sure if that's possible.

  10. Hi Maria

That would be lovely! I have a small creative business too so we will have that in common :) Your jewellery looks lovely, I like the silver woodland leaves.

I'll see if anyone else responds and then send out a PM arranging somewhere for wine/coffee.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

  11. Hello!

I'm 32 and moved to ED a year ago. I'm a Graphic Designer and work from home, and my husband works in the city (often long hours). I'd love to meet some women of a similar age with similar interests locally, (as my husband and I don't have kids yet, it can be hard to meet people who live in the area).

Let me know if anyone would fancy meeting for a coffee/wine, or any other suggestions on how to meet people locally would be great! I did try one of the book clubs, which was really nice, but I didn't meet anyone that I had lots in common with or was a similar age.

    Thanks so much!

  12. I actually really like Northcote road.

Hopefully all the successful and good small independent businesses on Lordship Lane like the brilliant butcher and fishmonger, ToastED etc will continue to thrive, and there will be more interesting additions like Franco Manca :)

I think there's room for another cafe if it was a really good one...with Luca's closing I don't think there are that many great breakfast options around...

  13. Just went along and it doesn't seem to be open despite it being during their listed opening hours, and noone is answering the phone...I need to buy some fabric...does anyone know when the shop opens or if there is a different number?

Or anywhere else locally to buy fabric?

    Thanks!!
