  1. Hi all,

Hope I am posting in the right place. Looking for internet provider recommendations.

We are based in east Dulwich near peckham Rye and we are with virgin. We lost the internet for a day or more last week and despite having devolo units to boost the signal everywhere in the house, we still have a few dead spots.

Is anyone happy with their service? We have used sky and BT in the past, but again we weren?t that pleased with the service. I have family deep in the countryside who say they are now getting great speeds everywhere at home with BT?s new system. Have any of you found an improved service? Very important for us as my husband will be working long days WFH until at least September if not the end of the year.

    TIA

  2. My kids are 6 and 9 and have been gathering stuff to sell to raise money for charity.

We don't have many families on our street, but we have a space in front of our house where we could sell stuff.

Question - do we put up lots of ads for people to come to our street, or can anyone suggest a place with better footfall where we can sell without upsetting the council or doing anything illegal?

We are about 5-7 min walk from north cross road.

they are really excited, so it would great if I could help them to have a successful sale!!

  3. Hi, I grabbed lunch here this week - ordered a pasta alla norma, which is veggie.

Penne pasta, light tomato sauce, Fried aubergine and cubes of mozzarella. I felt that the sauce was under seasoned - it needed salt and a pinch of sugar, in my opinion. But it was perfectly pleasant, the service was one, and I noticed several other Italian people who are obviously regulars which was lovely to see.

I noticed they had a sign for a home-made meatballs, and I can never resist a meatball so I will definitely be going back to try them.

  4. Can any seasoned parents tell me how many after school clubs is suitable for year 3? My daughter starts at Rosemead in September and I have no idea whether she'll be knackered or wishing she did she more... I think 2 is fine but there is a third that she is interested in.

Can any parents tell me how long homework can take in the first term?

    Many thanks!

  5. Not naming names, I have met with an architect who I really liked and then met someone who runs a renovations company - not an architect but highly experienced .

Architect has less house experience but I felt very comfortable talking to them, and showed the right attention to detail.

Renov person was less personable but seemed to have all the right experience and knowledge.

Our house is going to need a fair bit of work and I am going to rely heavily on the person I am working with because we haven't done anything like this before.

I am struggling to get hold of the renovation person whereas I had no problem getting hold of the architect after the meeting as it is just one person not a company.

Not sure who to go with. I had decided on the renovation person but am irritated already that my main contact is hard to get hold of (leaving mugs with reception). Architect seems like a risk but I think they'd rise to any challenges our project presented.

  6. Hi

We have a large z(40"?) flat screen telly (LCD I think) that we don't want. It works but the picture has deteriorated. We bought it in 2007 - as I understand it these tv screens do just deteriorate over time, nothing to be done about it.

Do you think someone would buy it? The picture is fine for daytime/bright colours but for dark/black/nighttime scenes the black bit have a green shadow to them.

Want to know if I should try to sell it with an explanation of the problem, or just put it on the Items offered board?

    Thanks

  7. Hi, hoping to get a nanny for the first time this year.

I am going to shortlist soon, and need to set up some Skype interviews. What are some important/clever/insightful questions to ask to get a good picture of the candidates?

I would like to put them at ease, hope that they will ask about the children, try to avoid any people with eating disorders/issues, make it clear that they will need to work flexibly...

I don't know anything about local english courses - thought I would investigate once I establish their level of English. An aupair I met recently said she just practices by meeting people, but she had an excellent attitude and was already a confident English speaker who needed to improve her accent and vocab.

Any tips? I want to make a list of questions ready to use when I make the skype call.

    Many thanks!

  8. Hi,

We have been househunting in SW London but I recently visited Dulwich and have fallen in love with it. My husband will consider looking at houses in Dulwich ONLY if I can find a good private school for my DD, who will be 5 in Sept. She already has a place at a good SW private school.

Do you think she will get into a private school at this late stage? Do you know what the process might be? I am keen to get more info but as it is halfterm most staff are away so am waiting till next week to speak to registrars.

She will be 5 in September. She is a happy, confident little girl, sociable and doing well at nursery. I have no issue with having her assessed if need be (she was assessed to get into the SW school).

Also, will I find a nursery place for my DS easily?

It's a bit daunting changing our search but we are struggling to find what we want in SW London.

I will be posting some questions about houses and roads in ED on a separate post...

    Thanks all!
