  1. This thread saved us from a lot of bother, from an expensive call-out and from freezing when we woke to no heating and a non functioning boiler this morning.Did exactly as described and problem solved. We will contact Billy when the weather improves for a full service. Thanks!
  2. Anyone with a local GP can self-refer/refer their child (up to the age of 18) for treatment to the Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders Service at the Michael Rutter Centre, Maudsley Hospital. Treatment with a private psychiatrist may not provide an evidence based intervention which should be offered by a multi disciplinary team. There is no need to pay for a service when a NHS centre offers a really high level of care for no charge.
  3. I would highly recommend Crimson Rose for her brilliant dressmaking skills. I got in touch with Crimson via the forum because I wanted a much-loved but rather well-worn dress copied. Crimson gave good advice and made helpful suggestions regarding fabric and minor alterations to the original. She made a pattern and then a callico model. I met with her to try on the callico model which was beautfully stitched and an absolute replica of the original dress. I have just collected the final result which is beautifully made and perfect. Crimson is approachable, thoughtful a good communicator and above all extremely skilled as a seamstress. Crimson is also a talented artist whom I would have no hesitation in recommending for her sewing and artisitic skills. This is not a cheap option but for a special garment it is worth every penny.

  6. I have had the same call and they are very persistent and if you are not technically confident they can really worry you. Luckily I cottoned on before allowing them to take control of my computer. I did a Google search after I finally got rid of them and was very relieved that I terminated the call when I did. I then found that my teenage daughter had had a similar call the previous week and was far quicker than I was to tell them where to go.
  7. I remembered the Rag and Bone Man who used to come down Benson Road in Forest Hill when I was a child in the sixties. I moved to Nunhead and in about 1994 I remember a Rag and Bone Man coming down my street with his horse and cart. I pulled my then 2 year old up to the window to look, excited that she hadn't seen a horse in the street before. Just as I pointed out the horse to her, the man punched the horse really hard in the side of his face.......not sure what my daughter now thinks of the old Rag and Bone Man!

If you read the forum, I would like to tell you that my anger this afternoon was not because your very small children were kicking my car; my anger was that I was trying to pull out of a junction at the time and so the car was moving. Your children, aged I would guess at no more than 4 years of age were too far ahead of you for you to notice what was happening until they had been aiming kicks at my car 3 or 4 times. They had stopped so close to the edge of the road that I was really fearful that one of them would be killed under my back wheels and so I could not make the turn until you copped on. I am absolutely all for children being able to have some freedom from their parents and do not believe in cotton wool parenting, however, these boys were clearly not old enough to be that far away from you. Even when I glared at one of them and shouted to them from inside the car, they laughed and carried on kicking, two of them in a complete blind spot. I sincerely hope that you will be more careful in future. I am a mother and I drive within the speed limits unlike a lot of people who could have met your children at that corner this afternoon, I dread to think what would have happened if I had been driving a 4x4 (except I'd rather poke my eyes out with a stick than be behind the wheels of a 4x4)

  10. Have just spoken to ACAS! Very helpful and straightforward advice. Looks like I'm taking out a Grievance tomorrow which they will ignore if they remain as predictable as I imagine, but will be there if it goes to tribunal. Apparently the employer needs to give twice the length of notice to days to be taken to employee ie if they want me to take 2 weeks leave, they have to give 4 weeks notice, so to take 4 days leave they must give 8 days notice which they have done, as I only work 3 days a week this may translate to nearly 3 weeks notice which is almost what they have done, not by design I am sure. None of this is statutory apparently so I have to argue that what they want me to do is contrary to my 2 professional registrations codes of conduct eg letting down vulnerable people when you fancy having 4 days off with no warning. So thanks for the ACAS advice, the helpline was brilliant, I had not thought about a Grievance and am now twitching to put it in writing for tomorrow!

  12. That's really helpful both of you, thank you very much. Aside from rather informal e mails, I have had nothing formal in writing and it does seem unfair to leave it until the last minute. I will ask for their policy on this tomorrow. I will think about the Citizens Advice route as well if this is not resolved; we're not talking wads of cash here but more of a principle after 20 long hard years. Thanks again to you both for taking the time to respond.

I am somewhat of a lurker on this forum but today I have a request to those in the know and would really appreciate advice: Having worked for nearly 20 years for a local authority, I handed in my notice at the end of July and will leave on 24th September- 8 weeks notice. I requested acknowledgement of my resignation 3 weeks ago as I had had no response. I was then asked some questions about how much leave I had taken and how much I intended to take before I left. I responded that I did not plan to take any leave and no more was said about this until today when I was informed that I am owed 4 days leave and would have to take this before I leave. Not counting this week, I only have 6 days work before the end of my notice period as I work part-time. I am told by my employer that I should know HR policy and cannot be paid the days owing. I have explained that I cannot take time off; I work in a therapeutic role in a mental health setting, my diary is booked several weeks in advance and I am on various duty rotas at the local A&E. Unbelievably the Local Authority have not provided me with a manager since December 2009 and as I work in an NHS clinic for the Local Authority, I have no access to the work's Intranet or to management and therefore no access to HR policies. In short, has my employer given me enough notice to take leave owing or should they have informed me earlier and not expected me to understand/know HR policy especially when I have not resigned a post in 20 years. I see I have become a bit rambling, but after 20 years and a great deal of nonsense from this employer, i am truly rattled and upset by their attitude.

Seriously, the book really helped when they were tiny and I had matchsticks holding my eyes open at work.
