  8. And here's one more the growing list of motorbike crimes....... I had my top box ripped off my scooter last night, breaking the fixings. Top box was left discarded a few yards down the road (Melbourne grove near junction with Tell Grove). The muppets who did it didn't even manage to get into it... Not much in there anyway but I'll have to replace the whole thing as the fixing was snapped so ??? and hassle. Looking on the bright side I had a D lock on the wheel which might have prevented them taking the whole scooter. I've reported it to the police so they can keep track of all of this...... very frustrating and a sad state of affairs.
  9. Richard Tudor - 'let's be honest' this is not about property values, it's about residents having an opinion on and trying to influence their quality of life on a heavily used residential road. Oh and for the record I've lived in ED for 13 years and on MG for 6 years, does that make me a new or old resident? Not sure whether I'm allowed an opinion in your world. Original discussions amongst a group of residents centred around full width speed bumps; it was a councillor's suggestion to conduct a feasibility study around a barrier. So, before you write your own version of how this all came about I suggest you get your facts straight.
  10. People clearly hold strong and differing opinions about whether a problem really exists and if so what interventions would be optimal from a cost benefit perspective. Surely conducting a feasibility study is a sensible step which will identify more clearly the nature of the current traffic patterns and the impact of any barrier. The feasibility study alone wouldn't decide anything, a public consultation would be needed and that's when everyone potentially affected would be free to have their say. Personally I'm in favour but welcome a proper process to establish the best approach that is supported by the majority of affected roads. And finally, it's a real shame when healthy debate turns nasty and gets personal, it's not helpful.
  11. As a long time resident of Melbourne Grove (near Ashbourne Grove and Tell Grove) I am in support of a consultation into traffic measures, of which a barrier could be one. The police carried out a two week traffic survey and found an incredible 15,000 vehicles use this stretch of road every week and sadly over half are breaking the legal speed limit. Bobby P and others here don't seem worried by this but two residents petitions take another view with overwhelming support for action. As for comments about 'new-comers' wanting to change things, that's just not relevant. I and other residents have campaigned in the past for similar traffic related measures on this road and we welcome the efforts and energy of more recent residents. There have been multiple leaflets/updates posted in every door on Melbourne and many doors of adjoining streets. The notion that we would apply for this without due process is nonsense. An open public consultation is what is being requested, at which point all comments, for and against can be considered.
  12. Mr Fruitcake (Paul) did an excellent job at my daughters 5th birthday party yesterday. He communicated well before the party so we know exactly what was happening when. The party was a great success, the kids loved him and he kept them thoroughly entertained for 1.5 hours. He's also very good value, being much cheaper than others in the area. Highly recommended! www.mrfruitcake.co.uk [email protected]
  13. Hello fellow Harris Parents - yep we're in too, and I'm v.excited (funny what floats your boat nowadays hey?!) Anyway, it'd be great to get to know folks over the next few months before term starts....definitely up for evening drinks soon and park/picnic/kid thing whenever. Norfolkvillas, I'll pm you email address now x
  14. Hi All, we've just had some plastering done by Steve Beard and would highly recommend to others. This is the third time he's done work for us (both interior and exterior rendering) and each time we've found him to be reliable, excellent quality, professional and good value. His number is 07947 745061. :-)
  15. I'm a MG resident (southern section)and would support a 20mph limit and switching the speed cushions to full width speed humps. Large cars and vans can just straddle the cushions thus making them ineffective for reducing speed. I raised this issue with the council some time ago and was told a residents survey / petition might be helpful....
