  1. Hi all Just a reminder that we've unfortunately had to postpone tonight's planned event with Gillian Clarke, as part of the East Dulwich Literary Festival. However, we do still have to brilliant events still to come: Tomorrow night, Evie Wyld (mutli-award winning young author and owner of the Review bookshop in Peckham) will be discussing and reading from her books, alongside performances from the fantastic Bookshop Band. Thursday night we have Gerald Dickens performing two one-act pieces celebrating the life and work of his great-great grandfather.   2. Hi all We've got some great events in this week's East Dulwich Literary Festival. All events start at 7.30pm, and tickets are a bargain at ?2.50, and available on the door (or in advance from Rye Books). Tonight: A tealk on Muriel Spark's surreal early novel 'The Ballad of Peckham Rye' by her official biographer, Professor Martin Stannard Wednesday: Author Evie Wyld (proprietor of the Review Bookshop in Peckham) will be talking about her award-winning novels. Alongside her, we welcome 'The Bookshop Band', who are fresh from Glastonbury and will be performing a set of songs based around novels. Thursday: A one-man performance by Charles Dickens' great great grandson. Two one-act pieces, 'Mr Dickens is Coming!' about the great man himself, and 'Doctor Marigold' based upon a lesser known short story by Dickens. We would love to see you there!   3. Come in out of the rain and visit Harris Girls' Academy as we host the Comedy Club 4 Kids (2.30pm) at our Family Fun Day today. Open from 1, we've got live music, a talk of Peckham Rye in WW2 (2pm), workshops from the Cuming Museum, lots of stalls selling lovely things, food and drink and some other fun and games. We're on Homestall Road, it would be lovely to see you there - something for everyone of all ages!
  4. Hi mariababe. Sorry, for some reason I forgot to ask the forum to send me emails when people replied. Comedy Club 4 Kids is aimed at 6 - 11 year ols, but we will also be having a workshop from Little Supernovas, which is for the under 5s (these will both be at 2.30pm). We're also going to be having fairground games, etc, for the whole family to take part in. Entrance to the whole event is free.
  5. Hi all The East Dulwich Literary Festival starts this week, being held at Harris Girls' Academy on Homestall Road. We've got a great lineup of events, all either free or for ?2.50, and it would be great to see lots of new faces there. Tickest will be available on the door for most events. Please note that unfortunately Gillian Clarke will no longer be appearing, but we hope to reschedule her visit for another time. if you've bought tickets for her event, you can either keep them to use at the rescheduled event, or claim a refund from Rye Books. We would love to see families here for our open-air 'Treasure Island' this Thursday at 7.30pm. Swashbuckling fun for all! Then on Friday we are showing 'Gone Too Far!', filmed in and set in contemporary Peckham. And then on Saturday we've got our free first 'Family Fun Day', featuring Comedy Club 4 Kids and lots of fun for everyone. Hope to see you there!
  6. Very excited to be able to announce the acts performing at the 'Comedy Club 4 Kids' at Harris Girls' Academy on Saturday 28th June. it's all free, so pop on down at 2.30pm to see the show! Luke Toulson will be MC - http://www.luketoulson.com/ And the acts will be Bec and Tom (http://becandtom.com/) and Three Half Pints (http://www.threehalfpints.co.uk/) It should be a real laugh, and we'll have a variety of other things on offer throughout the afternoon.

  8. It's tonight! From midnight tonight until midnight on Saturday, you can take a photograph of Dulwich and submit it to the competition - [email protected]. it can be anything - perhaps what Dulwich means to you, or just something quirky you've seen around and about. You can take a photo on your phone if you'd like - it's that simple! And there's no age limit, young or old. You don't have to be affiliated with Harris Girls' Academy in any way either. We've got some great prizes on offer - not only will you get a nice print of your photo, we've got tickets for the London Eye and the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery on offer. Although the school won't be open this weekend, we'll be responding to emails so any queries you do have can be sent through. Really looking forward to seeing what you send through! The basic rules are: 1) To enter in the spirit of the competition, all photographs must be taken between midnight (12pm) on Friday 6th June and midnight (12pm) on Saturday 7th June. 2) Photographs must then be submitted to the email address [email protected] by 5.30pm on Tuesday 10th June in order to qualify. 3) If your photograph is too large to be sent, or you would like to print your photograph yourself, please contact us for alternative ways of submitting them. 4) Camera phones are permitted as well as standard cameras of any sort. 5) For the purposes of the competition, ?Dulwich? will be within the following boundaries ? West Dulwich station (W), Honor Oak Park station (E), Peckham Rye Station (N) and Sydenham Hill station (S). 6) Photographs on the boundaries of these areas will be accepted at the judges? discretion. Where possible, please include the location of your photograph when submitting. 7) All photographs must be submitted in at least jpeg format ? if you are able to supply them in a higher resolution (.tiff or .crw for example) you may do so. 8) In the interests of fairness, Photoshop cannot be used on the submitted photographs 9) All photographs will be displayed at the East Dulwich Literary Festival on Saturday 28th June, where the winning photographers will also be announced. All shortlisted entrants will be contacted prior to this date.
  9. Hi everyone I just wanted to highlight a couple of family-friendly events Harris Girls' Academy are holding at the end of June as part of their Literary Festival. It would be great if you wanted to come along. Both are free of charge, and should be a lot of fun! Thursday 26th June, 7.30pm - Open Air performance of 'Treasure Island' Touring theatre company 'Rain or Shine' will be presenting their exciting new adaptation of 'Treasure Island'. Come and sit out in the sun with a picnic to enjoy the tale of Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver! Saturday 28th June, 1.00 - 5.00pm - Family Fun Day We've got an afternoon of activities planned, with something for everyone. The renowned 'Comedy Club 4 Kids' will be doing their chidl-friendly standup comedy, workshops from Little Supanovas (drama) and the Cuming Museum (My Place in History), live music and poetry, local history talks and a host of stalls from local businesses. And Captain Jim?s tale is always the most popular... With a host of wild characters and events, from Billy Bones to the threatening Blind Pew and the ?Black Spot?, the pirate?s mutiny on the Hispaniola to the marooned Ben Gunn and the fight at the stockade on the isle where Captain Flint?s treasure is buried, Robert Louis Stevenson?s classic story is brought to theatrical life by Rain or Shine in this new adaptation by James Reynard. This tale of buccaneers, greed, courage, betrayal and pieces of eight has both humour and brutality and is suitable for adventurers from the age of 6 to 106. Jim Hawkins invites you to hear how he came to leave his home, the Admiral Benbow Inn, and make his way across the seas to Treasure Island. Saturday 28th June, 1.00 ? 5.00pm: Family Fun Day We?ve got an afternoon of fun for everyone, with child-friendly standup comedy from the Comedy Club 4 Kids, musical performances from local acts, storytelling performances, drama and history workshops, live poetry, talks on local history and stalls selling food, drink and crafts.

  14. To launch this year?s East Dulwich Literary Festival, Harris Girls? Academy is holding '24 Hours in Dulwich', an exciting photography competition with a twist. Over 24 hours, from midnight on Friday 6th June to midnight on Saturday 7th June, we are inviting photographers to take a unique and original photograph, with the aim of getting a snapshot of Dulwich and the surrounding area over the course of a day. Open to everyone regardless of ability, every entrant must take a photograph during this single 24-hour period. All entries will be displayed during the East Dulwich Literary Festival at the end of June, with the winners announced at a special event. Application forms can be downloaded from the Harris Girls' Academy website or by emailing [email protected]. Any queries or questions can also be directed to this address, or in posts below this. Full details of the exciting lineup for this year's East Dulwich Literary Festival will be announced after Easter.
