  1. Another thumbs-up for Billy @ Hunter Heating. He was able to fit us in at short notice to service (and mend) our boiler and test a couple of other appliances in the house. He spotted a missing flue bracket and replaced that too, and sent the gas certificates via email later the same day. Professional and efficient job for a fair price. Superstar, highly recommended - thanks Billy! Billy's number - 07986 296453

Kens is good too, but much of a muchness really. A bit further afield, Masters between Waterloo and Elephant & Castle is outstanding as many a black cab driver will vouch.
  3. Anyone know if NX market will reopen from next weekend? Apparently outdor markets are now permitted to do so from June 1st. https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/25/outdoor-markets-car-dealerships-will-reopen-next-monday-12756280/ I hope so - I've missed the popcorn place and Comfort & Joy these past couple of months.
  4. Have you tried the Zooplus website? They sell pretty much all of the special dietary dried pet food at good prices (much cheaper than the vet) and free delivery via DPD to your door for orders over ?40. They have some shortages on some lines at the moment (e.g. the particular Royal Canin stuff we need for our cats) but you can set up an alert to be told when your brand comes into stock. 5. I think your theory is pretty solid. I happened to stop in at the Sainsburys behind Elephant & Castle railway station late morning today (below the Gymbox). I don't think there's parking there. They had lots of stock of fresh fruit, veg, milk, eggs, bread and meat. They even had toilet rolls! (being strictly rationed). No pasta, rice or tins tho but other than that it was almost like a normal shopping experience. It's a bit of a detour but prob less frustrating than trying to beat locust swarms elsewhere. Are the groups being organised street by street or are there one or two central ED groups out of interest?
  7. Is this just Barry Road or surrounding. I live on Friern and keen to assist any one local in need.
  8. Now becoming a bit of a challenge to find kid's medicine (Calpol, Olbas oil) anywhere which is irritating. If anyone's interested the Cheese Block has a decent stock of dried Garafolo pasta at a fairly reasonable price (?1.60 per pack) as of this morning (everywhere else stripped bare of the stuff)
  9. KaiShin Wrote: "I paid, but had to drive a very old and broken car" Really? I am very suprised. All the zip cars I've used have been very new. Btw I would highly reccomend Zip Car Flex for getting to Heathrow. You can drop the car off in the short stay car park at T5. Rarely costs more than ?20 even including their ?5 Heathrow fee.
  10. Agree with the comments about the need to improve the Kelly Avenue Lynhurst Way jct. However before dealing with that, I wonder whether the Council could at least re-surface the Peckham Road end of Lynhurst way. Coming back from town, the road past the school is bone-shakingly terrible! A proper cycle path into Burgess Park from the end of Chandler Way would also be very welcome too.
  11. Also worth considering the Coal Rooms at Peckham Rye station or Peddler (both excellent). If you can make it into town, The Hawksmoor Sunday roast is Epic!

They are very reasonably priced, thorough and efficient. As Alec1 says, they offer a free re-test if you fail and do not do any repairs, so it's in their interest for you to pass! The only fault they ever found was a broken light bulb - the one thing they can fix for you - which they did for ?2. Last time I went, I happened to go to KwikFit a couple of weeks after for a new tyre, and they tried to flog me all sorts of 'fixes for problems' that would soon fail an MOT. Told them to take a hike :-)

Or Uber to FH, train to EC and change (its an easy change with lift access to all platforms). We've done this a few times in the past few months, full loaded with luggage. Easily done in 45 mins or even less if the stars align!
  14. I'd recommend Canvas and Cream in Forest Hill. Excellent breakfast options and decent coffee too.
  15. Hi - how do you go about buying the ?2.50 Kids Club tickets for a Saturday morning? When I look on the Picture House web site it's showing standard pricing for 10am on Saturday morning > This!!! Picturehouse kids club tickets are > bargainous. Also toddler time cheap too. > > HP
  16. Am glad this seems to be being taken seriously now. It's been a recurring problem for several years, particularly near the junction with Goodrich and Friern.
  17. Not a taxi company, but if you are able to drive, you might consider self-drive using ZipCar Flex. Loads of these cars around ED. They've recently made Heathrow T5 a drop-off zone - you park the car in the short term car park right next to the terminal. Cost (based on 7 trips I've made) is approx ?20 all-in, which is much less expensive than any taxi. Works the other way too (Heathrow to ED - park on the street).
  18. Other good options locally = > Old Nun?s Head > Palmerston > Crooked Well
  19. Sorry to hear. Probably parts stolen to order. I once had the entire interior of a Golf VR6 stolen (seats, leather trim - even the gear knob). They left everything else - even a bunch of CDs and the money in the coin drawer.
  20. Also worth taking a look at a web site called Cat in a Flat https://uk.catinaflat.com/ Lots of local options there. We used them and were very happy with the person we chose.
  21. I'd recommend getting a quote from Bells on LL. We used them for our quartz kitchen worktops a couple of years ago. They worked out a bit cheaper than anywhere else (Wickes etc) and did a great job. From memory they work with an external company that will visit to create a template and install the worktops when ready. We've been delighted with the results and would use them again.
  22. Tiddles - thank you for picking up after someone else. You are absolutely right - the situation between Goodrich and Etherow is disgusting. There's a new pile of crxp on the street practically every day. If it was an isolated occasion it wouldn't be too bad, but very single day is ridiculous, particularly with the number of kids on the street and the nearby school. It's evidently one person/dog. From what I've seen the 'trail' seems to start on Goodrich and continues up Friern on the left hand side. I live on Friern and am tempted to point a security video monitor to the street to try and ID the perpetrator. Not sure what I'd be able to do with any evidence though. I've reported the matter to the council who acted quickly to add stencils to the footpath. Sadly it hasn't made any difference and the person continues with their incredibly antisocial behaviour. tiddles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Friern road between Goodrich and etherow is > particularly bad. > I am pretty sure it is one irresponsible owner. > Once again I picked up ten > 'deposits' today. 23. Yup - Mason & Green can provide child seats on request. Lots of recommendations for them on the forum. Reliable and decent value. We always use them when public transport's out of the question (ie Heathrow with cases and baby paraphernalia) www.masonandgreen.co.uk
  24. Update on the fouling situation in Friern Road. Basically over the summer things haven't improved. There's been a new 'deposit'most days, clearly from the same dog. I counted 8 heaps on our small stretch of the street on Monday evening. So I got in touch with Southwark Council (there's a reporting tool for dog dirt on their web site). Surprisingly I got an email back very quickly assuring me that they'd get the mess cleaned up and have the enforcement team add extra warning notices. 2 days later and indeed they've already cleaned-up the street and added new stencils to the pavement. Hats off to Southwark Council! Whether it will deter the 'poop perp' remains to be seen, however I was impressed that the council were so responsive.
  25. There's also a Snappy Snaps on Rye Lane. We used them for our 2 weeks old and they did a great job.
