  1. Hi ken cat... my partner had his Triumph nearly stolen at 6am this morning. A neighbour disturbed the two guys and they sped off on their motorbike. We're on the Dutch Estate and they found it to the side of our houses in a locked car park. I know nothing about bikes but from what I gather they have done the same to his bike - taken out the ignition. The neighbour saw two guys on one motorbike with no helmets on, only black balaclavas. My partner is from now on chaining it to a post for further security.
  2. My friend runs the sling meets locally and I'd highly recommend attending one to discuss the options. (Or join the forum to ask for advice)... generally the first sling is a stretchy fabric one like the Hugabub (I loved mine and fed in it till my son was 4 months. My friend has also used it and loved it). From then on I used a SleepyNico till he was a year old. I was also able to feed him in this. HTH. x

  3. I still recall Fushia's advice to me that children don't have normal adult sleeping patterns until they are two years of age. My son is now 15months old and has never slept through yet. I feed him to sleep still and he continues to wake through the night. I recently did a teaching placement and I was on my knees with tiredness but I cannot bring myself to do controlled crying...
  4. I loved the Hugabub and have since loaned it to a friend who equally loves it and hasn't used her pram once! From about 4 months I used a SleepyNico but have since had to stop wearing my son (now 15 months) because I got horrendous backache and blocked milk ducts (where it felt like I had flu for two days...) - which apparently can happen with strap style slings.

My friend currently organises the South London sling meets which meet regularly so you can always go along and try different types of slings on before you buy:

  5. I got obsessed about buying a pram when I was pregnant. I ended up with a pram from Ebay which faced me and then we bought a Maclaren Quest Sport. Second time round I'm ditching the pram and I'll be using a sling (Hugabub and then Sleepy Nico used) till they are able to go into the Maclaren.

Think about when you are actually going to use a pram. If you are someone that likes to get out and about and do lots and will be using public transport then I'd recommend a sling and lightweight buggy.

Ha ha... I second having a partner snoring and hogging the covers!!

My son is now 7 1/2 months and we cosleep. He still feeds 3 times a night but I've mastered breastfeeding lying down which has saved my nights. I couldn't stand sitting up in bed feeding him - I got to the point where I was falling asleep sitting up. For naps during the day I have daybeds both upstairs and downstairs - these essentially consist of cot mattresses on the floor which are perfect for him as he's on the move and is turning into a young Houdini!

  7. I've just had my voluntary redundancy accepted (tbh my post was deleted recently during the merger of two major charities so I would have been made redundant anyway). I've taken this chance to complete my studies towards a Montessori Teaching Diploma and in addition become a childminder.

I'm really looking forward to a change in career as I've been doing a job I hated since leaving university (oh god, that was 9 years ago!! ha ha). So, for me having my first child has been an almighty kick up the bum to actually qualify in a profession I want to work in.

p.s If anybody is thinking about becoming a childminder Southwark is one of the last boroughs that pays for pretty much all of the training.

  8. Use a wrap (Motherease etc) over disposables to prevent leaks... until you convert to cloth nappies!!

I'm with you Molly on co-sleeping. Helps to master breastfeeding lying down first (which took a little practice).

A stretchy wrap (like the Hugabub).

Masses of handcream, Bachs Rescue Remedy (before bed and during night when you wake to feed baby), glass of water and a blue night light (IKEA Chidren's section) at side of bed.

    Disposable breast pads

Bowl, natural sponge and water for cleaning baby's bum! Less hassle than wipes.

  9. Oh no, I've just sent off for my worms for the council wormery we purchased (last year - now looking a little neglected in the back garden).

Has anybody successfully managed to use theirs or am I about to send more worms to their death?
