  1. Hi ken cat... my partner had his Triumph nearly stolen at 6am this morning. A neighbour disturbed the two guys and they sped off on their motorbike. We're on the Dutch Estate and they found it to the side of our houses in a locked car park. I know nothing about bikes but from what I gather they have done the same to his bike - taken out the ignition. The neighbour saw two guys on one motorbike with no helmets on, only black balaclavas. My partner is from now on chaining it to a post for further security.
  2. My friend runs the sling meets locally and I'd highly recommend attending one to discuss the options. (Or join the forum to ask for advice)... generally the first sling is a stretchy fabric one like the Hugabub (I loved mine and fed in it till my son was 4 months. My friend has also used it and loved it). From then on I used a SleepyNico till he was a year old. I was also able to feed him in this. HTH. x http://www.slingmeet.co.uk/
  3. At 15 months my son is sleeping on his cot mattress on our bedroom floor which is working out really well but I want to look to get him a bed soon (he can easily get up onto our bed so getting in/out not an issue) and was wondering whether I should go for a toddler bed (http://www.johnlewis.com/230572895/Product.aspx?source=14798) or go straight to a single bed. And what age does a toddler bed go up to? x
  4. I hope that's the name of it! I've been out of the loop for six months and I want to get out and about with my son but don't have the first clue as to what's on on a weekly basis. Have tried the library but they don't appear to have any... anyone know where to pick one up? x
  5. The Sarah Beeny programme (http://www.channel4.com/health/microsites/T/toxic/) made me start making my own lotions and potions. I'd recommend almond or olive oil. Wheatgerm oil is good for stretch marks. HTH x
  6. I still recall Fushia's advice to me that children don't have normal adult sleeping patterns until they are two years of age. My son is now 15months old and has never slept through yet. I feed him to sleep still and he continues to wake through the night. I recently did a teaching placement and I was on my knees with tiredness but I cannot bring myself to do controlled crying...
  7. I loved the Hugabub and have since loaned it to a friend who equally loves it and hasn't used her pram once! From about 4 months I used a SleepyNico but have since had to stop wearing my son (now 15 months) because I got horrendous backache and blocked milk ducts (where it felt like I had flu for two days...) - which apparently can happen with strap style slings. My friend currently organises the South London sling meets which meet regularly so you can always go along and try different types of slings on before you buy: http://www.slingmeet.co.uk/
  8. I got obsessed about buying a pram when I was pregnant. I ended up with a pram from Ebay which faced me and then we bought a Maclaren Quest Sport. Second time round I'm ditching the pram and I'll be using a sling (Hugabub and then Sleepy Nico used) till they are able to go into the Maclaren. Think about when you are actually going to use a pram. If you are someone that likes to get out and about and do lots and will be using public transport then I'd recommend a sling and lightweight buggy.

Hearing you breathe > is helpful apparently. Ha ha... I second having a partner snoring and hogging the covers!! My son is now 7 1/2 months and we cosleep. He still feeds 3 times a night but I've mastered breastfeeding lying down which has saved my nights. I couldn't stand sitting up in bed feeding him - I got to the point where I was falling asleep sitting up. For naps during the day I have daybeds both upstairs and downstairs - these essentially consist of cot mattresses on the floor which are perfect for him as he's on the move and is turning into a young Houdini!
  10. Hi Lorraine I might come and bump into you too. I have major cabin fever after staying in all week and the swines appear to be leaving our house!! See you later. x
  11. Thank you for your comments and cheers Pickle for the link to the previous thread. I did do a quick search but came up with nothing! I'll be sneding the link to my partner... and Cailean will be rear seated from now on!! Cheers x
  12. Hi I was just wondering which car seat people went for for the next size up. We currently have the Maxi Cosi Cabrio but having used a forward facing car seat in a taxi yesterday, my son (7 momths old) was so much happier. Having a quick look online but the one used in the taxi yesterday has awful reviews. Any suggestions? x
  13. I've just had my voluntary redundancy accepted (tbh my post was deleted recently during the merger of two major charities so I would have been made redundant anyway). I've taken this chance to complete my studies towards a Montessori Teaching Diploma and in addition become a childminder. I'm really looking forward to a change in career as I've been doing a job I hated since leaving university (oh god, that was 9 years ago!! ha ha). So, for me having my first child has been an almighty kick up the bum to actually qualify in a profession I want to work in. p.s If anybody is thinking about becoming a childminder Southwark is one of the last boroughs that pays for pretty much all of the training.
  14. You might enjoy The Green Parent Forum (http://www.thegreenparent.co.uk/forums) as many of the mums are in to co-sleeping, baby wearing, cloth nappies etc Some of us London mums are meeting on Tuesday at the Princess Diana Memorial Playground to have a picnic lunch.
