    Gerry the Plumber

Another recommendation for Gerry. We asked him to come and fix a leak and also to put the inhibitor into the central system. He's one of the most honest tradesmen around and a lovely bloke to have around the house. The leak was more troublesome than first thought but he always come back later to fix the problem without charge. He will be the first name to call if I need a plumber in the future. He can be contacted on 07872303925.
  2. I would like to add another recomendation for Julian. He recently done 4 alcoves, 2 bedroom cupboards and a fantastic walk-in wardrobe. Julian is very knowlegable and clearly love what he's doing. He work with us throughout the process, giving us ideas and expertise all the time. A very lovely guy to have around the house and we have so many lovely comments from other tradesmen about his work. Julian Richards The London Fitted Wardrobe Co. Mob: 07931 520 713
  3. Hi, just to add another recommendation for Mark Newlove. He came to service my boiler and my Megaflo cylinder. He's very knowledgeable and gave some good advice on some problems he found with the existing installation. I will use Mark again without no hesitation. Mark Newlove: 07971824567
  4. We recently had Oskar and his team to do some fencing at the back garden and also putting up trellis at the side. They worked very hard and the work is fantastic especially the new fence. The price is competitive and Oskar is a nice guy to deal with. Highly recommended and will use again if needed.
  5. I also like to recommend Mehmet. He gave an estimation of how long it will take to prune the wisteria tree but actually managed to complete in less time. He's extremely hardworking so you definitely get your money worth. He also cleared the gutter while he was there which wasn't part of the schedule. I will be using him again.
  6. Emro - not too sure where you got the statistic for Charter. I got this from their webssite. "Our drive to ensure excellence at the highest level is illustrated by the outstanding results of our more able and talented students. 19% ,that is 29 students, gained at least 8A*/A grades" so 19% for the Charter. 87.2% for Dulwich College (190 students) 90% for Alleyns (128 students) 98% for JAGS (104 students) Charter is an average school when comparing with the other state schools. But comparing with the local private schools is just ridiculous.
  7. So they want less inspections, less workload and a job for life but they want better pay for doing this.
  8. This is what the teachers are striking for : The NUT and NASUWT have published a "joint declaration of intent" - building on the pensions campaign - to defend teachers and the education service. We have launched a joint campaign against the Government's attacks on the teaching profession, including: workload pressures: damaging teachers' health and threatening educational standards; pensions: imposing unfair contribution increases and changes to pension ages; pay: continuing the pay freeze and proposing local pay and further performance related pay; conditions: attacking national terms and conditions of service, including through the academisation of schools; inspections: creating workload and stress through punitive and frequent inspections; and job security: increasing job losses through funding cuts and curriculum reforms.
  9. LocalTeacher - please do not put spin on this. This strike is all about better pensions and nothing else. This is just like train drivers trying to get a better deal for themselves every year. They said they're striking for public safety but yet will stop striking when they get a better contracts. You got a very good deal so please get on with the job and don't fool the public by saying you're doing it for the kids.
  10. Hi, I started this thread on the Residential section but with no response, maybe more luck in this section. We are looking to rent and possibly buy a house on Half Moon Lane (Herne Hill end). What is it like to live on this road? Is it too busy and noisy? Is it safe and desirable road? Will it be difficult to sell in the future because it's on an A road? Thank you.
  11. This was posted on the Herne Hill forum At 6.45 p.m. last night (Thursday 17th) there was a fatal accident involving a young girl, aged 12 on Herne Hill near the junction with Gubyon Avenue. She was hit by a double decker bus, operating route 68. She died at the scene of the incident. Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident or the movement of the girl or bus. Please contact the Metropolitan Police at Brixton on 0300 123 1212 or the Herne Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0208 721 2824. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl.
  12. I think the issue mainly derived from their ethnicity. How many Chinese, Japanese or Indian have you seen in the street robbing and stabbing each other? The eastern cultures are brought up by their parents to value education, education and education no matter what their social background is. If society is to blame for the violence of young men, then why the eastern cultures are not affected?

  14. Hi, You can either choose 5 mornings or 5 afternoons. I think the morning starts at 9am to 11.45am or 1pm to 3.30pm for the afternoon session. However the school is usually oversubscribed so you need to register your child a long way in advance. We register our child 1 year in advance but didn't get the morning slot that we wanted. I hope this help.
  15. Sorry but negotiations have brokern down at an advance stage. We couldn't agreed the terms of the lease. So we are back to square one and looking for another suitable site on Lordship Lane.
