  3. Hi Yvonne S camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk is my website and is down at the moment, got some technical problems, sorry about that as there are many photos relating to Everitt Vero's, some are my own and a lot were sent to me from Bill Vero......My Mum Joan Chinery worked at Veros in the 1960s, I was wondering if your sisters might have known her as I am pretty sure she worked with a lady called Christine who tried to help me write a song once, that would have been around 1964 when I was about 12 years old, my Mum also worked with Maureen Flannery whom I am still in touch with and with Madge Gage, her boss, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago, my Mum sadly passed away very young in 1967, she was just 40 years old, she was still working at Vero's when she became ill. I have attached a couple of photos Best Wishes Johnnboy

  9. I have added links to 2 family cine film clips from my website, My Nan Patsy Chinery on the steps of her home at 8 Rodwell Road in 1960, my cousins are playing in the street. The other clip shows my Cousin Denise, My Aunt Anne & My Nan again on her way to a wedding with 2 other ladies, one is her sister Lily from no 14 but I don't know who the lady is in the blue hat & cream coat. I have also added a family photo from the late 40s - early 50s: My Mum Joan Chinery (nee Stacey)is the lady dressed in black on the left, does anyone know who the other lady is on the right, I know my Mums friend was Joanie Stringer, would this be her ? Can anyone help ? Many Thanks Johnnyboy

  11. Hi I know you posted this message back in 2009 but I have just come across it, and found it so interesting, your memories are fantastic, you list some of the people who lived in Rodwell Road but stopped at no 10..... Did you know my Nan & Grandad Fred & Martha Chinery, they had 3 sons, Fred jnr (my Dad), Frank & Ronnie, they lived at no 8, Martha was known as Patsy, her sister Lily lived at no 14..... My Mum was Joan Stacey, she lived with Joanie Stringer for a while, when my Mum married my Dad they moved into the basement flat of no 36 where I was born....Freddie Staines was a friend of my Dad's, I think he married Joanie Stringer but not sure, don't know what number Joanie lived at..........I think Roy & Derek still live in Rodwell Road............I have created a website about Camberwell, East Dulwich, etc, the website address if you are interested is camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk the only reason I named it camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk was because my Dad was a foreman on the council, so was I and my brother - I have uploaded a few cine film clips of Rodwell Road in the 1960s on my website one of shows my Nan standing on the doorstep of no 8, there are many photos & memories on there - when I was about 6 months old we moved to 198 Underhill Road, one of the Prefabs, we stayed there for 17 years until the damp started to appear, we then moved to a newly built house in Greendale close Best Wishes John
  12. Hi Gwenyth Thank you for your memories, would you have any photos of your time at Vero's that you would be willing to share ? I have uploaded my own website which features quite a lot of information & photos about Vero's (many photos & memories courtesy of Bill Vero) if you have any photos & memories that you could add to my website that would be great, the website address if you wish to have a look is camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk I'm always hopeful that anybody that worked at Vero's might have photos of their time there and quite possibly my Mum might be in them. My Mum packed the hats in cardboard boxes, threaded the white nylon cords, etc, I'm sure you must have known her, she was about 5' tall, very slim, wore glasses & had dark hair, the name Christine sounds familiar. My Mum worked with Maureen Flannery, Madge, who was in charge, Rose & many others, my Mum sadly passed away in 1967 aged just 40 years old. All the best, John

  16. Thank you John, you are right the moderators have done this to me before, I'm not worried, it just goes to show that as you quite rightly say how little they know about East Dulwich or how it used to be, I have a lot of happy memories, and some sad ones of East Dulwich, shame it has changed so much, thanks for your support John Best wishes Johnnyboy

  21. WHY ? WHY ? Why was my new post moved to the lounge ? I Was born in East Dulwich in the early 1950s, lived in a Prefab in Underhill Road, East Dulwich in the 1950s/60s, went to Heber Road School in East Dulwich, worked for Southwark Council pruning the trees in East Dulwich in the late 1960s & 1970s, got married and had two children in East Dulwich in the 1970s, my Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, were all born, lived & worked in East Dulwich and last of all my website is not just about Camberwell, there is a lot of memories/photos relating to East Dulwich which I thought might be of interest, seems not, In future I will not bother to inform the East Dulwich Forum of any new Material, Memories or Photos relating to East Dulwich if it is going to be moved to the lounge or is of no interest
  22. Wonderful new memories & Photos added to my website at camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk by kind permission & copyright of Viera Rudkins, thank you Viera, absolutely fabulous
  23. I remember walking home from Heber road school about 1960/1962 in the thick smog, I had a piece of old white sheet that my Nan had given me in the morning to wrap around my nose & mouth, you could hardly see your hand in front of your face, I started at Heber Road School about 1956/57 Don's sweet shop was always handy if you wanted some sherbert pips, potato puffs, fruit salad's, bubble gum, gobstoppers, sweet tobacco and all of those other wonderful sweets, I remember on the opposite corner to Don;s the wall attached to the corner house had broken glass cemented on top of the wall, I cut my hands on it once, the last time I looked it was still there. Miss Dyson was my Teacher for the first two years, what a lovely person she was, anyone remember her ? I still have some of my old school reports. Mr Regan was a bully, he used to hit me on top of my head with a clenched fist and his rings would dig into my head, one time he lifted me up off of the floor by my ears, I had to go to the hospital after that, he was very lucky he didn't have to after my Dad had a word, Keith Regan, his son, was also in my class. I Never stayed for school dinners, I always went to my other Nan & Grandad's in Whatley Road for dinner at lunchtime. I remember Roy Daniels, Andrew Gould, Tony Randall, Julie Thorn, Sandra Legon.
  24. Hi Prefabgirl I lived in a Prefab at 198 Underhill Road from 1953-1970 and loved every minute, my next door neighbor at 200 was Francis Rossi, lead guitarist with Status Quo, an Elderly peoples home is now on the site where my Prefab once stood, I went to Heber Road School as all of my family did, my Dad worked for the Parks Dept on Southwark Council, My Mum worked for Everitt Veros at the bottom of Crystal Palace Road, my Secondary School was at Thomas Calton in Adys Road, My Grandparents also lived in Rodwell Road, I remember two of the names you mention, Julie Fitzpatrick & Susan Dalton, did Julie have a brother called John ? I have uploaded a lot of photos onto my website if you have any Photos/Memories you would be willing to add that would be fantatstic, my website address is camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk
  25. My Dad, Fred Chinery, was a Parks Foreman for Southwark Council and worked with Alf Prankard, all our family went to Heber Road School, I remember Alan & Linda Prankard, If you have any photos & memories you would be willing to share I have built a website, its about, the Council, East Dulwich, Peoples memories, etc, always looking for new material to add to help build up a picture of a community that has now gone, any help you could give would be great, the website address is camberwellboroughcouncil.co.uk
