No buses running through lordship lane
East of Dulwich replied to sweetgirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We've asked TFL Buses about the lack of information about the diversion over Twitter. At first they said that there were notices on the stops, but not they say they're going to investigate. Please feel free to add your complaint to this thread, here: https://twitter.com/TfLBusAlerts/status/1068118110132215808 -
Flat burgled on or around 29 January
East of Dulwich replied to GillianHG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am really sorry to hear about this Gillian. I got burgled in December and had two ukuleles taken. Neither was very valuable, but one was a present from a friend and so I was very sad about that. Oddly enough they picked up a guitar and then left it behind, perhaps when they noticed the ukuleles. I wonder if mine were the same thieves who have a penchant for string instruments. The other things they took included an antique laptop, a cheap radio, a couple of very old Nokia mobiles and strangest of all, my razor and manicure set. I do hope you find your viola, anyway. -
Has anyone used Martin's builders?
East of Dulwich replied to SEnewbie's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Someone was asking for other recommendations. I used http://www.aspectconstruction.uk.com/ and was very happy with them. -
My current favourite is Fish, Chips and More. 46 East Dulwich Road, SE22 9AX. They have a fairly comfortable seating area and its rarely busy. Not sure if they deliver, but I would never want someone to deliver chips -- they'd bound to have gone cold and it just feels wrong in so many ways!

Is there a cider collective in East Dulwich?
East of Dulwich replied to AngharadHR's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've also had a glut of apples this year, and was having trouble finding enough people to give them away to. It seems to be an early fruiting tree, so there won't be much more but if enough people were interested, I'd definitely like to be involved in some kind of coop. How much does an apple press cost, roughly? Does anyone know? -

Best Mobile Phone Coverage in SE22?
East of Dulwich replied to East of Dulwich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I did try TuGo, but found it didn't work very well. Sometimes, it didn't respond when there was an incoming call, which meant that I couldn't answer. And when I called out the quality was very poor. But thanks for the suggestion of getting a PAYG sim. I had thought of this, but hoped to narrow it down before I went through the hassle of getting hold of them. I assume you can pick them up for nothing, these days? -
I would be quite happy with my current provider O2, were it not for the fact that in my home close to Goose Green roundabout, I get such a weak signal that I usually have to go outside to make a call. Can anyone recommend provider who might have better coverage in this area? Apologies if this has been recently covered in another thread, to which I would be happy to be signposted.

Hi Stardust, La Scala Coffeeshop on Grove Vale has wifi, there is almost always a seat, and they seem quite happy for people to ensconce themselves in their with a laptop for a while (so long as they buy a drink at least!). They also do the best coffee I have found in the area and the couple who run it are quite delightful. They even have a small garden at the back. In case you're not familiar with this wonderful establishment, here's a map. I hope to see you there some time!

I've take stuff to the Mind Shop at the start of Grove Vale and they've taken it. I think they get something like ?50 a tonne for it. I think it's nice to warn them what it is though, especially if a bag contains items that might frighten the horses.

keano77 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The modern equivalent of tramps keeping warm and reading newspapers in libraries. As a former librarian, I see absolutely nothing wrong with homeless people coming into public libraries to read a newspaper in a warm place, any more than with senior citizens who can't afford to heat their homes. Incidentally, libraries in Southwark now all provide free wifi, though no sign of a caramel latte...

East Dulwich Hotel for sale
East of Dulwich replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Was this ever really a hotel, and if so, does anyone know anyone who admits to staying there? I always thought it was either a scam or a joke. -
Please don't delete this! It's the most sensible post I've seen on this forum in years!

William Bailey Solicitors
East of Dulwich replied to East of Dulwich's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Thank you to everyone who recommended William Bailey. I did use them, and found David Coombs very professional, helpful and able to explain matters clearly. -
So where is the Hopscotch cafe bar?

Am considering engaging William Bailey Solicitors concerning a property matter. Has anyone had any experience with this firm, positive or negative?

Trav, By coincidence, I'd asked the same question under the heading, "Professional Roofer Needed". No replies yet, but you may wish to follow that thread too. East

Can anyone recommend a reliable and preferably accredited roofing company who are capable of diagnosing the problem with a leaking roof and carry out the repair work? Post your recommendations on this thread rather than via PM, please. East

I go to GK Barbers at 7 Melbourn Grove (the station end). They always do a good job. http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1183/162015.php

We are delighted to discover that Chris of Pretty Traditional has set up stall on Northcross Road. Selection a little smaller but pretty much as good as ever.

Hi, About eight years ago, all the libraries in Southwark stopped taking calls and all calls went to a privatised call centre. Unless things have changed since then, there is no way of getting hold of the "real number" as these are only made available to other libraries, council services and the staff themselves. Of course this might have changed, but I very much doubt it. The library does have a section of business books, but mainly aimed at people running or starting their own business, rather than business studies students. They're open tomorrow,Sunday from 12 - 4pm so you could pop down and take a look. You could also email [email protected] but I doubt you'll get an answer before next week. You can also search the catalogue online at https://capitadiscovery.co.uk/southwark/ I just did a search on subject: "business" and it threw up 312 books at Dulwich, as you will see here: http://tinyurl.com/qzxbdff Of course, not all or even most of these will be on the shelf right now. Hope this helps! East
