  3. That was quick. The landline number is now back in service. Bonus: we never have to deal with Chess again. *quietly whooping for joy*
  4. We, at The Galleon, wanted to share our most recent experience with Chess Telecom, our "friendly" business telephone provider. Aside from the numerous times where we have had service interruption after service interruption, no apology, a computer glitch which has suspended our number from service, no apology, on one occasion it took them 5 weeks to persuade BT Openreach to repair a fault on our line, no apology, and the countless times we have had to have our incoming number diverted to a mobile phone for the duration, and no apology, aside from that, and our supposed Broadband Fibre which is almost slower than dial-up, everything's been just dandy, Daddy. Until today. We announced that, contract finally at an end, we had gone elsewhere and could they please send a final bill. Their response was to initially threaten to enforce an early termination fee. We pointed out that, well, we didn't actually have a contract anymore. In a further attempt to prevent us from switching over, they have now refused to transfer our existing number to our new provider and have refused to provide us service until the new provider comes online on 19th of October. The goodwill here is just overwhelming. We've all had to take to lying down in darkened rooms, with gin to soothe the nerves (Little Bird Gin of course!) Having spoken to our new provider, on our company mobile after Chess unceremoniously cut us off, we are pleased to discover that in fact we will be getting our usual number back in 2 weeks' time. Apparently BT has to request it and then reassign it to the new SP. In the interim, please visit our Facebook page or website for our temporary contact details. Customer Satisfaction Survey: Q: Would you recommend Chess Telecom to either friends or family? A: Hahahaha..... Hahahahaha....... no.
  5. Update: the phone line is now perfectly OK again but our voicemail isn't working. The joys of technology. The Galleon Team.
  6. To all The Galleon's clients who've been trying to get through to our landline for the past 24 hours, we have a fault on the line. Again. The number is still in service but we have no incoming calls, yet the internet is fine. Please email us for appointments [email protected] or contact us on Facebook. We have been assured by BT Openreach that our phone line will be back to normal on Friday, by lunchtime. Our most sincere apologies for this inconvenience. The Galleon Team.

  13. We are thrilled to welcome back the lovely Gunel Osman. She's originally a Vidal Sassoon girl, from back in the day. She was with us after we just opened in 2013 and left to join the Kooki team in Peckham. However, she has decided to come back to The Galleon, which makes us really happy. We love her dearly and she's a hot little hairdresser! She's a great technical stylist delivering really sharp cuts, the VS training on show with every snip of the scissors. She's with us every Thursday (until late) and every second Tuesday. We will be opening on Sundays from July 5th and Gunel will be happily holding the fort in the salon every other Sunday. Her prices are: ?50 for a Ladies' Cut and Finish ?35 for a Gents' Cut and Finish ?15 for children under 10. For Teenagers, please see the website. www.galleonhair.co.uk We hope to see you soon. The Galleon Team (and Gunel).
  14. Dear Latinoqueen, thank you for your kind words. Have a great day in this gorgeous sunshine and we hope to see you back when you can! The Galleon
  15. The Galleon, at 20 Forest Hill Road SE22 0RR, is currently looking for models for our trainee stylists. Modelling sessions are supervised by our most senior stylists and colourists so there is no danger of you going home with green stripes and an asymetrical buzz cut - unless that's what you've asked for. We are currently looking for women for one length bob cuts. Please either message via the forum or call reception and speak to James: 020 8613 1593
  16. WAHANDA - to our Galleoneers, if anyone has booked or paid for services with us via this online booking portal, please could you contact us immediately on 020 8613 1593 or via email at [email protected]. Thank you.
  17. We are a unisex salon on Forest Hill Road called The Galleon. We have been around for one year in June. Our most senior stylist and one of our owners, Mark Kay, was Head of Training at Trevor Sorbie for many years, and has a reputation for excellence within the industry which is unparallelled. We have a vacancy for a Full Time junior, trainee to work a minimum of 4.5 days a week with a half day release for college. Applicants need to have a serious and demonstrable interest in hairdressing and/or fashion. You need to be well presented, punctual and polite and want a career in our industry. You will be working hard over long hours, so a good work ethic is a must. This is a tough business, and not for everybody. It's very rewarding when you get it right. There's nothing better than helping a client make the most of themselves. Applications via email please (including a phone number where you can be reached) to [email protected]
  18. During January, February and March 2014, we are having "Studio Days" at The Galleon. At this time, anyone who books in for a cut on "Studio Days" will receive a 20% discount on their bill. Anyone who books in for colour will receive a 15% discount. To qualify, clients must quote the code posted on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Galleon/476791375702984 The code will only be valid on the date as posted for services for that day. Our senior stylists and colourists will be providing this service, not trainees. Best regards, The Galleon Team.
  19. We are pleased to announce today that our website has FINALLY gone live. www.galleonhair.co.uk We apologise unreservedly to anyone who has been trying to use our address to find out more information regarding our services. Henceforth, we have joined the world wide web, and plan to stay as long as we're wanted!
  20. Thank you Tallulah71. It was lovely to have you as our first customer (and I hope the Princess Diana reference wasn't in too much bad taste. Ho Hum!). To everyone offering their support, thank you very much, without our clients we have no business, so we value all feedback, positive or negative. We can't improve if you don't tell us truthfully what you like/don't like, so please don't be shy. Any questions about who we are and what on earth we think we're doing with ourselves, please just ask. We'll endeavour to answer you ASAP. Thanks again to all and hope to see you at some stage. Mark, James and Philly.
  21. Hello, we are new to the forum but we have been told that our presence here is vital. We welcome all feedback from existing or prospective clients, positive or negative. We can't improve our service if we don't really know what you think. Briefly, we are a new hairdressing salon called The Galleon. We are at 20 Forest Hill Road, that's at the junction of Forest Hill Road, Dunstans Road and Colyton Road, opposite the last entry gate into Peckham Rye Park. Our co-founder and head stylist is Mark Kay, formerly of Trevor Sorbie - Covent Garden. He used to work alternate Saturdays at WillisB on Lordship Lane so if anyone has been wondering where he disappeared to in Jan/Feb, now you know. We offer men's and women's cuts and colour. For a price list, and to see all services offered, please go to our website: www.galleonhair.co.uk - (going live this w/e). A potted history of the amazing building where the salon is situated: It's a late Georgian brick built detached villa, of a simplified Neo-Palladian design, with a Venetian window in the attic storey (an unusual feature for a townhouse of this era) which dates from c.a. 1813 as it appears on a map of Camberwell of that date. The facade has been used as the template, in the late 19th century, of the terrace which climbs up Forest Hill Road towards Honor Oak, No 36 being famous as the birthplace of Boris Karloff, the iconic Hollywood Horror Film actor. At some stage in the late Victorian era, the frontage of No 20 was altered with the two main rooms, at lower and upper ground floor level, becoming amalgamated into one and with the construction of a wrap around shop frontage which still exists today. This became a public house - called The Albion - with the dwelling house above. During the restoration of the shop frontage we discovered the original Toby Ales and Charrington's Ales signs under the boarding on the shop front. We have deliberately kept the Toby jugs in gold leaf as they are hand painted and an example of traditional London pub art, now swiftly disappearing. In the late 1930s, early 40s, the pub became a wine and beer merchants, hence the name The Galleon Wine Co Ltd etched into the glass on the upper shop windows, something else we have kept and where our shop name comes from. The shop continued in this vein until the late 1980s, early 1990s, when it was closed up and slowly slipped into disrepair. When we signed the lease, our main thought for the venue was to restore as much as possible of the original exterior as nothing but the bare brick walls remained internally. Back now to 2013. After 6 months of builders, drains, electricity and general chaos (including the rumour that Ann Summers was moving in), we are, FINALLY, open for business and are looking forward to seeing all/any who want to come in and see us. If you're an architecture buff and just want to see the restoration works, that's fine, you don't have to get a haircut to come in. In a few weeks time, in addition to the normal salon services, we will be offering for sale: some antique chairs, collector's boxes and bits along with handmade soaps from Provence in the reception area; bespoke jewelry and millinery in the styling area. The huge empty wall spaces above will be for new art school graduates to use as exhibition space, with a private view evening (and a bit of vino of course) every so often for our clients. We are striving to combine some good haircuts with some good conversation, and something interesting/attractive to see besides (and that's probably not referring to the staff... oops.) The idea has always been to offer something a bit different, which hopefully people will take to and like. We look forward to welcoming anyone who wishes to come, so please do. To book an appointment please call us on 020 8613 1593.
