  1. The Zero Waste store ?Beetroot and Beans? (Dartmouth Road) has been open for a month now and seems popular: https://se23.life/t/new-zero-waste-store-beetroot-beans/11741
  2. I?m rarely inclined to respond to anonymous trolls who misrepresent my opinions, but for you I?ll make a special exception. a) you?re wrong about me b) when someone?s politics differ from yours it does not give you license to disrespect them as an individual c) your malign posts are hurting this forum It?s not fair on admin or the community for you to indulge your personal grievances here, whoever you are, and however important you think your opinions are. Thank you very much to those who have kindly defended me.
  3. Abe. With the Forest Hill Mural, SE23.life organised the design vote first, and then raised the money. People need to know what they?re paying for. The strategy worked. Our crowdfunder raised ?2,500+ in 75 hours. Get the right design (via a popular vote) and people will pay for it to happen. Hopefully this message won?t be mysteriously deleted like my previous few were.
  4. No worries, eastDAG. I?m really sorry to see the abuse you?ve had to put up with here. No community art project goes unpunished, it seems.
  5. I posted a message in support of eastDAG and in support of the East Dulwich Mural. I don?t understand why my message was deleted, but am pleased the response to my message by the above anonymous troll was deleted. Anyway, to reiterate (but in fewer words this time) - great work eastDAG, and ignore the naysayers.
  6. Well done eastDAG on a well organised and well communicated project. Three great design options, and nicely presented on your website. Our mural in Forest Hill created a lasting buzz and we were pleased to see local people really got behind the project from start to finish. It helped to have the supportive forum community that had built up on SE23.life over the last two years. Obviously there will always be a small (and vocal) bunch of naysayers, but a project like this should be driven forwards for the benefit of the majority - otherwise, community art would never happen. Keep up the great work.

I think it's more racist to suggest that travellers and Irish people are of the same subgroup, than it is to criticise travellers themselves.

Here we go with the virtue-signalers. Are you offended? "It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so f**king what." --Stephen Fry Are these travellers of the Roma ethnicity? If not, the criticisms here are not directed at a race, but are directed at itinerant, nomadic people who have a lot to answer for because of their own selfish behaviour.

As a tow-truck company with a local yard, would you volunteer to take on these itinerant travellers and their organised activities? I think the council would struggle to find anyone brave enough. When you get in a spot of bother and live in a caravan, you can simply move on. When you get in a spot of bother and run a company with local property, you're stuck there and vulnerable.

  11. Do you have any evidence to suggest Jack Straw was wrong then, or now?

No smoke without fire, and the police should investigate suspects in order of statistical likelihood. Not in random order. With finite police resources, decisions have to be data-driven. Reported by the BBC: [Labour] Home Secretary Jack Straw has continued to insist that many travellers commit crimes. Mr Straw also told the BBC the public supported him because what he said was true. Speaking on BBC Radio Two's The Jimmy Young Show Mr Straw cited a "wonderful" interview he had heard on the radio which proved his point. He said: "A gypsy - I think he described himself as a gypsy - was asked about the allegations that they committed crime and he said `Yes, we do'. "He said, `We are better in terms of family life than the rest of the population' but he said `It's true, we are thieves and we need to sort this out' - I rest my case," Mr Straw added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/428915.stm
  13. Bless you, Saffron :-D I'm flattered by the little fan club that follows my actions all over the web and feels the need to comment and share them. What delicate Saffron describes as "spamming with nasty things" I would describe as "replying, on-topic, with an opinion other than the South-London-sanctioned handwringing." Here's the thread so you can all judge for yourselves https://www.facebook.com/groups/ILoveSE4/permalink/1409473272416153/
  14. LOL! It was a harmless post about a neighbourhood development. In a couple of relevant neighbourhood forums. It's not an attack on the left wing of politics. Get a grip, guys.
  15. If you have a water valve outside your house, and it's just been painted white, you're probably about to receive a letter from Thames Water. We've been doing some digging since this started in SE23: https://se23.life/t/water-stop-valve-outside-house-sprayed-white/1903
  16. Disclosure: this is my website. Just wanted to put out a mention of the new forum for SE23: https://se23.life It's only two weeks old, but growing really fast (5000 pageviews/day) and getting loads of positive local input (about 100 posts / day at the moment). Our approach of going out and meeting people in real life to "Verify" their profiles is working well to build a trusted online community. SE23.life is based on best-of-breed open-source forum software and is mobile-friendly, real-time updated and community moderated. As users build their reputation on the forum, they unlock new features, including some moderator privileges. It's a fresh approach, and the growth indicates a lot of pent-up demand in the area. Check it out and let me know what you think: https://se23.life Chris
