  1. It does sound like the cat I found, but from that pic this cat looks a lot healthier (more weight, sleek fur etc). Although it was a while ago when I saw him so he could have put on some weight. Plus I found him on the road behind the Palmerston, not on CPR, which is a fair way for an old cat with health problems to go I would have thought. But I hope it's the same cat as it's a nice happy ending, I was very worried about the little thing.
  2. I agree with you Louisa, Sue seems to think we live in a village in Sussex. We live next door to some of the worst boroughs in London, and we need to be realistic about this. I'm not suggesting for a second we should all hide away indoors, but just to be sensible. Since moving here I haven't changed my lifestyle in any way, I still go out and still see friends, but when I'm coming home late I make sure I'm not left to walk home alone.
  3. Sue I think you are going slightly over the top with this. I am a 'modern woman' if you like, but I would never walk home alone from the station late at night as it is just not wise to do so. Like it or not, a woman on her own will be seen as an easy target. This isn't being sexist, it is the truth. And having a friend or partner meet you isn't a 'return to the days of staying at home and doing embroidery', it's being sensible and aware of the area in which we live. That said, it isn't just women who are at risk, men will be a target too, and everyone needs to aware.
  4. God that's awful, I hope she is ok. Does anyone know if the person was caught?
  5. I haven't seen him since, but I will keep an eye out for him.
  6. The cat didn't have a white patch, he was completely black. This cat took a bit of coaxing to let me stroke him, but was fine after a little while. He just did not want to be inside and was jumping at the windows to try and escape. As it was 10 at night I couldn't call anyone, and I couldn't keep him in as he was so agitated. I just hope he is ok. I look out for him, but I've not seen him since.
  7. Last night I saw a small, very skinny and emaciated black cat on Northcross road. He was walking quite slowly, and as I stroked him I was shocked at how skinnny he was. His fur was scruffy too - he didnt look in good shape. So I picked him up and took him home. When I got him back I fed him but he just wouldn't settle and was getting more and more agitated at being inside. So although I really wanted to keep him in and take him to Battersea in the morning, I had to let him out. We sat outside and watched him, and he would explore a little and then come back to our front garden but wouldn't come into the house. So if anyone is missing a young black cat, he is probably still around Crystal Palace Road (by the Castle pub and corner shop). I would say he has been missing a while as he is very thin and scruffy looking.
  8. I don't have kids, and I cherish my two lie ins a week so really resent being woken up to someone ringing my doorbell at 8am (actually last week it was 7:45)...
  9. Has anyone else had someone ring on their doorbell around 8am on a Saturday morning recently? For the last two Saturdays our doorbell has gone, but as we live on the top floor we've not bothered to get up, get dressed and answer. We live on Crystal Palace Road, and just wondered if it's someone going door-to-door? The people in the other flat also didn't answer the door, so I know it wasn't someone for them. I'm not very happy at being woken up this early at the weekend, and I'm hoping it won't happen again this week. If it does, they will be greeted by a very grumpy woman with scary bed hair and no make-up :X
  10. I'm a patient and I could'nt believe I had to be called back by a 'clinician' to justify why I would like to see a doctor. It is very inconvenient to have this call-back system if you work, and not to mention having to discuss your medical problems in public. Whenever I've needed an appointment, I've told the receptionist I'm not prepared to discuss my problem over the phone - this made no difference however, and still had to wait for a call back. When I get called back I tell them I won't discuss my problem over the phone and they usually just sound a bit stumped and make an appointment. Also had big problems trying to see a female doctor, apparently she is only available on Thursdays and she is always booked for the evenings weeks in advance. When I suggested I see a nurse instead, evenings are for emergencies only. So what are you supposed to do if you work?! When I finally got an appointment I was sat in the waiting room for an hour and a half. When people that had came in after me were coming and going, I asked the receptionists what was going on. I was ignored for a while and when they eventually acknowledged me, they were very rude and dismissive. They told me I would be the next in... I wasn't. If it wasn't for the amount of hassle getting the appointment and leaving work early, I would have walked out. Honestly the worst service I've ever experienced.

Well yes we have checked it out - we viewed the house a few times and had a walk over there and the area seems nice and quiet, but I don't think you get a real feel for an area til you've lived there. We are moving quite close to the Castle (If I've remembered the name of the pub correctly).
  12. We are moving to Crystal Palace Road from Playfield Crescent, and wondered what the street/area is like? Is the number 12 bus to Peckham Station very busy in the mornings? Is it usually on time? Thanks!
