  3. Our bodies are designed to work in the field of gravity. As soon as our amphibious ancestors moved out of the water and onto land, our body structure evolved to allow us to resist gravity. Of course we all move from the ground, but many of us have lost that direct, experiential, ancient connection with "ground". We've become un-grounded. City life is un-grounded. In the 2nd of these workshops we'll be exploring: (1) connecting to the ground through our arms and hands. This provides us with a very different relationship to that from our legs and feet, and allows us to explore inversions and arm balances from a new perspective; (2) reaching out and connecting to the world. Part 2 - Reaching Out 25th February, 13:00-15:30 at ZenYoga Cost: ?25 per workshop For more info and to book visit [www.youruniverseyoga.co.uk]
  4. ?Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won?t).? ? James Baraz

Of course we all move from the ground, but many of us have lost that direct, experiential, ancient connection with "ground". We've become un-grounded. City life is un-grounded. These two workshops are all about redeveloping our connection to the ground. We'll be exploring what it really means to "ground" and how that feeling can inform our yoga movement. We'll be learning how to "move from the ground". Part 1 - Rooting Down 4th February, 14:00-16:30 at ZenYoga Part 2 - Reaching Out 25th February, 13:00-15:30 at ZenYoga Cost: ?25 per workshop For more info and to book visit http://www.youruniverseyoga.co.uk/workshop-moving-from-the-ground.html
  6. "Unlike diets, mindful eating teaches us to change our eating patterns step by step... [it] doesn?t tell us what to eat or what not to eat. It doesn?t provide us with any rules or orders. Instead it trains our innate ability to tune into our bodies cues and learn to read these signals telling us when it?s time to eat, how much to eat and when to stop eating. It teaches us the skills to tap into our hunger and fullness awareness, to better develop our taste satiety and trains our ability to slow down while eating, thus tasting our food mindfully." http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/alexa-frey/mindful-eating-the-end-of_b_7283410.html
  7. "Before the course I was lacking confidence, with a very weak immune system; highly stressed and unhappy in a lot of aspects of my life. Since doing Mark's course I have grown in my confidence, my memory, my understanding of myself - leading to an inner calm. I have become more patient and able to take a step back and not be anxious at work. I am enjoying being me." - Claire (Dec 14)
  8. Do you struggle to maintain a healthy diet or avoid unnecessary snacking? Do you always stop when enough is enough? Do you forget to appreciate lovely food when you have it? Eating is so intimately linked to emotions, habits, and health that it can easily be the first place we notice something is out of balance. On this retreat you we will discover: - The different kinds of hunger we experience - The body-felt feedback cues that can guide your decisions to begin and end eating - How to engage all your senses in the act of eating so that eating can become both satisfying to you and nourishing for your body - How to prepare and cook food mindfully We will all participate in preparing the food we will eat during the retreat. All the costs of the food are included in the price. The day will also include a number of different mindfulness practices, including some still meditation and some mindful movement. Cost ?40 (?30 conc) http://www.youruniverseyoga.co.uk/mindful-eating-retreat-day---sat-21-jan-2017.html
  9. "Feelings, whether of compassion or irritation, should be welcomed, recognised, and treated on an absolutely equal basis; because both are ourselves." - Thich Nhat Hanh
  10. "Mark is a really good teacher, I never felt as through I didn't understand a concept. I really liked the use of scientific studies and thought the combination of Mark's scientific background and Zen Buddhist was really useful and interesting" - Fiona (Mar 15)

  15. Do you struggle to maintain a healthy diet or avoid unnecessary snacking? Do you always stop when enough is enough? Do you forget to appreciate lovely food when you have it? I know I often have difficulty with these things. Eating is so intimately linked to emotions, habits, and health that it can easily be the first place we notice something is out of balance. Mindfulness teaches us to fully appreciate the constantly changing sensations and emotions around hunger, eating, and digestion. Mindful eating means selecting, preparing and eating food with awareness and attention resting in the present moment. It means being aware of the positive and nurturing qualities of the food you eat, and respecting your own inner wisdom. Like this we learn how to be at peace with our food. On this retreat you we will discover: - The different kinds of hunger we experience - The body-felt feedback cues that can guide your decisions to begin and end eating - How to engage all your senses in the act of eating so that eating can become both satisfying to you and nourishing for your body - How to prepare and cook food mindfully We will have access to a fully-equipped kitchen, and will all participate in preparing and cooking the food we will eat during the retreat. All the costs of the food are included in the price of the retreat. Sat 23rd Jan at the Art Noveau cafe in Brixton Cost ?55 (?45 conc) http://www.youruniverseyoga.co.uk/mindful-eating-retreat-day---sat-23rd-jan-2016.html
