  1. I have to say that I keep my front door double locked even when I am at home during the day. Is there a Neighbourhood Watch scheme around here?
  2. I agree with Maxxi about making sure the market doesn't get spoilt by "outlet" stalls.
  3. IMHO, resident's parking would kill the market & damage the atmosphere around here. There will be less actual parking space & a lot more overall aggravation and inconvenience. It's great that friends and family can visit without having to pay for visitors tickets. I live right next to Northcross Road & I understood that when we moved here we would have to deal with the possibility that it might take more that 10 minutes to find a parking space every now and then, or, shock horror, have to park a couple of minutes away from our front door. I think the market should be expanded on Saturdays, but I love that it's peaceful round here on a Sunday & I would oppose having the market on a Sunday.
  4. Dear fellow EDers Some time yesterday evening around East Dulwich I lost a much loved silver necklace (somewhere along this route: Dekker Road, Woodwarde Road, Calton Ave, Townley Road, East Dulwich Grove, Lordship Lane, Frogley, Archdale). It has a small circular Aquarius pendant on it. It really isn't worth anything financially, but the sentimental value to me is huge as I've had it since I was 11 (More than 20 years). Please could you keep an eye out & if anyone finds it I'd be hugely grateful to have it back. Thank you.
  5. Don't the yellow police boards appealing for info go up if it's a fatality? I may be wrong, I went along that road this evening at 5ish and there are no incident boards to be seen - I really hope it wasn't too serious. Let's wait for someone with the absolute facts to post?
  6. Hi Diana I play every Thursday evening during term time with a group of local ladies at Alleyns. If you PM me I can give you more details.
  7. Thank you for replying Wizbit. So sorry for whoever the little thing belongs to.
  8. Just wondered if the little cat was wearing a collar? Our next door neighbours have a gorgeous little cat that matches this description & has a very distinctive collar.
  9. Flim flam, frippery. And fortunately, wicked & dude.
  10. I am quite tall, but not that tall! The fireworks were going off just above our loft room & were incredibly loud at such close range. Don't get me wrong, I stand by my original post - I do love fireworks, but not at half eleven at night from someone's back garden, I think it's dangerous. Guy Fawkes night is a great time for fireworks - at least in the winter you don't have to wait until nearly midnight for it to be dark enough to really enjoy them.
  11. Thank you for your kind words Marmora Man. Fireworks aren't "fun, noisy, pretty and pure a glorious waste of money" (I'm assuming you were having so much fun, you abandoned word order), when they are going off two feet above your head.
  12. I'm the last person to say that people shouldn't have a party, but to set off fireworks in a small back garden at 11.30pm is just stupid & selfish. In such a confined area, the fireworks went off right over our house & terrified our children who were woken by the bangs. I love fireworks, but at the right time of year with the right safety precautions & at a distance for heavens sake. I really hope you all had dreadful hangovers.
  13. The photos are absolutely marvellous, really worth a walk to have a look at. I love trams & was also very interested to see who used to own the shops that are so familiar to us now. Brilliant idea.
  14. I'm not asking for a hunt. I don't really understand why this is being turned into a class issue - that really wasn't my intention. I would just like to be able to sleep through the night - are you being disturbed, Louisa?
  15. Aquarius Moon, I'd leave them in peace if they left me in peace! Once you've had kids, you tend not to sleep through very much at all & I don't agree that SE22 is their natural habitat. I'm not saying that we should kill the lot of them, I'm just saying that perhaps we need to manage their numbers sensibly.
  16. Yes, culling people rather than foxes should sort the problem right out..... I have been woken at least 4 times a week by the foxes. Drunk/noisy people about twice in the last month. I think there needs to be a humane solution - it can't be good for the foxes to be so numerous. I agree that people need to dispose of food correctly, but to be honest, there isn't a lot of food littering the streets around North Cross other than after the market. I have tried ear plugs, but prolonged use actually is painful & not very good for you. (As I discovered on a 5 day trip to New York.......)
  17. The local foxes are driving me to despair. They wake me up almost every night with their territorial screeching and last night I think they set off a car alarm at 1am, which was nice. (I am making this assumption based on the fact that my own car has large paw prints and slight scratches on the roof, which I believe were left by foxes). Town foxes are a nuisance. I'm putting this on a separate thread to the one relating to the recent attacks as I don't believe that in general, foxes are dangerous, but I think that there are too many of them in urban areas now. I'm not demeaning the attack that took place recently involving the twins, I'm sure it was absolutely terrifying & I was very pleased to hear that they are both doing ok. Are there too many foxes on our streets at night? Should there be a cull before people try and take it into their own hands?
  18. Crikey, I wondered what all the sirens were about earlier. I hope everyone's ok.
  19. I too saw Paul McGann on Lordship Lane very recently, Lesley Sharpe (who is lovely), and last year, my hubby & I were in The Palmerston having a drink and noticed Timothy Spall with his family having a meal together. Then a black cab pulls up and Alicia Silverstone gets out and joins the family Spall, before they depart with plenty of booze! They looked like they were all going to have a thoroughly lovely time.
  20. Personally I'd have a lovely meal at The Palmerston and then head to the cocktail bar at Beauberry House (cabs from Panther on North Cross Road). I haven't been to Beauberry House for a while, but I had a meal & a couple of drinks there a while ago. The food (at the time) wasn't great, but the bar is beautiful. I'd go on a recce if I were you....good excuse for a Dirty Martini or two...and you could check out the restaurant while you're there.
  21. Apparently it's closing down - I asked the guy in there what was happening to the site, but he had no idea. Anyone know? I thought it was quite useful to have a proper stationers/art supply shop, but it would seem that it's not doing very well.
  22. Oh, how marvellous, I love ping pong!
