  1. @Loz, @nxjen, @alice - I think I'm actually a very considerate person. When I'm on a narrow pavement, and notice that a small group coming toward me is about to pass where only one person might fit, I stand to one side. They usually say a quick thanks. If I'm with my dog, and a group notices that I'm just about to negotiate the same tight spot - they usually stand to one side and let me pass. I say thanks. This is how it should work in public spaces, and around the streets of East Dulwich this is indeed how it usually goes down. I'm very happy to share the park with runners, cyclists, dogs and families. And I definitely don't expect people to 'part like the Red Sea' because I'm barrelling down towards them at my lightning fast 15-minute mile pace. :) However in this particular case, the family should've made room for me to pass - given there was only one of me and eight of them, and they were taking the entire breadth of the pavement. I slowed down to nearly a crawl as I approached - and the guy that I ended up squeezing past just looked at me as if I was somehow inconveniencing his perfect family's perfect stroll through the park. Entitled piece of ...

Thank you Growlybear for pointing out the obvious. Of course. I made my displeasure obvious to them at the time. My message was more a mini-rant as opposed to a heartfelt direct message to said family.
  3. Dear Very Inconsiderate Family This afternoon you were walking eight-abreast in Dulwich Park. I was coming towards you running on the left-hand side, and as you made it impossible to pass I almost ran into one of your party. I would've gladly passed your chain gang on the right-hand side, however as you were eight-abreast - taking the entire path - I had no other choices other than to awkwardly sidle pass or stop my run completely. I appreciate you didn't want to get your baby buggy or your shoes muddy by stepping off the path, but you could've momentarily fallen into six-abreast formation to allow me to pass. That would've been the considerate thing to do.

Amazing news. Hopefully this is all resolved really soon because it's been a totally s**t commute without normal service from EDW the past couple of weeks.
  5. Although East Dulwich is my closest station, I don't even bother trying to get the train during strikes. Instead I head to Forest Hill on the 176 or 185 and get a Southern train to London Bridge from there. For some reason, Southern trains seem to be plentiful from that station at peak commute times. This morning I think there were Southern trains at 8:45, 8:53 and 9:01am!
  6. I've just been on the phone with Virgin Media. I've been advised that there's been a fault in my part of SE22 (Landcroft Road) since 28 October 2015, which isn't due to be 'fixed' until late-April 2016. I've been having trouble keeping a stable Wifi/Internet connection for longer than 10 minutes at a time. Apple TV, Hive and other services like Skype don't work properly - a huge inconvenience given that I work from home and use Skype for business calls quite often. I've now resorted to tethering my laptop to my mobile for Internet connectivity. After several calls with the Virgin technical support team, and countless remote resets of the equipment, I suspected it was a problem with my router, so I requested an appointment for an engineer to come out to replace it. Unfortunately, because of the blanket outage that's logged in the system, they won't (can't?) schedule any individual appointments until the neighbourhood fault is resolved... possibly by April! Of course I'm thinking about changing providers, but will it really make a difference? They've offered to reimburse my broadband charges from the time I first reported the fault to end-April.. a nice gesture, but I just don't understand what could possibly take so long. An October-April timeframe to resolve a broadband issue is ridiculous!

  8. I just spotted a workman spraying what looked to be pesticide all over the pavements. He covered the area on Lordship Lane between Pellatt Road and Heber Road. Is the council allowed to do this, and is it necessary? I have a dog and I'm somewhat concerned about the dosage that's being used...
  9. As a dog owner, I'm also disgusted by the amount of poo on the streets. But I'm equally disturbed when overly suspicious neighbours and passersby stop and watch me to make sure I'm picking up after my dog - which I do, 100% of the time.
  10. ... Wise words from Bob & Roberta Smith concerning the East vs West debate.
  11. The two women were at the bottom of Landcroft Road x CPR a couple of hours ago... a builder working on the corner house confronted one of them, and she immediately stopped. Out of curiosity, I checked my own bin when I got home and found that each bin bag was torn and the contents reviewed and emptied unceremoniously into the bin. I'm irritated, but she probably stopped when she tore into the bag with a week's worth of dog poo in it.
