This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4. We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died. They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so. They were very kind. He was a lovely cat, grey and white. He must have died very quickly. So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.

I had lots of books to donate to the HH Oxfam bookshop a few months ago. I phoned them, and they told me I could drive to the rear of the shop, where parking is easy. They gave me directions, and came out to meet me when I arrived. They were very helpful, and grateful for the donation. So it's definitely worth ringing them!

Hi all, I'm doing some long-term financial planning, and looking for recommendations for a local Independent Financial Advisor. Have you ever used one, and do you recommend them? I always like to get personal recommendations where possible, and I'd be really grateful for any ideas. Many thanks!

Brilliant, thanks so much! J 🙂

Trees being felled for drainage work in Peckham rye
HTED replied to Oneredfish's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've just objected on the Southwark website. Good luck! J -
I totally recommend Elliot from Langley Carpentry. He has just installed a hanging guitar holder, and a large mirror, on the wall of our music room. We're delighted with the results. Elliot was punctual, friendly and efficient. He also suggested a brilliant solution to a problem we had with one of our walls - and the end result looked much better than my original idea. We'll definitely ask him back to do more work in future. Many thanks Elliot!

Homophobic verbal attack by Veolia Bin Man
HTED replied to noahsdw's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So sorry to hear this - what a horrible experience for you both. Glad you've reported it. Have you reported it directly to Veolia as well? They should investigate - the man is clearly one of their employees... -
Brilliant idea! Have donated and shared. Good luck Dillan and Rocky! J :-)

I agree - and if we want to give practical support to NHS staff, here's a link to the King's SOS appeal: https://supportkings.org.uk/sos

Old Kent Road Recycling centre is now accepting cardboard!
HTED replied to Ginnie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks DKHB - The problem is that we've got a huge backlog now, and I think it would overwhelm the driver! Yes, I'll have a look in the store - maybe they have got them again now... J -

Does anyone know where we can recycle plastic carrier bags now? We had to use them for our online supermarket deliveries during lockdown, so accumulated quite a backlog :-( Thanks! J -
We recently had quite a bad mouse problem. We were impressed by the above reviews for Critter Solutions and contacted them. Roger and Elliot were brilliant. They came round promptly after we contacted them, and then weekly until the mouse problem was solved. They gave us lots of really useful info, about safety (for pets etc), the poison used (not as cruel as the old-fashioned ones), and how the whole process would work. The mice are now gone. Roger will come back if we have any further problems within the next 18 months. Roger and Elliot are great to have around - polite and friendly, and very efficient. Roger also has lots of fascinating anecdotes about his many years in the pest control business - an added bonus :-) Many thanks to Critter Solutions!

We've had things delivered by our milkman stolen by foxes - bread, margarine etc - until I hung up a bag in the porch so they couldn't reach them. We also have a cool box - with a well fitting lid - for the milk bottles. This is safe enough on the doorstep, against foxes. But in your case it seems unlikely that it was foxes - I doubt even the cleverest fox could steal two glass bottles of milk, without breaking and spilling them! So it does sound like humans :-(
