Cooks Carpentry - My bad experience
mickawbm replied to PhillyIlly's topic in Request a Tradesperson
I'm sorry to read about your "bad experience" and hope the work is completed to the standard and with the conduct we all expect when paying for a service. However, in defence of the majority of honest, trustworthy tradespeople I would like to point out that it is normal practice to obtain a deposit for materials from NEW clients, especially where materials can amount to a healthy portion of the job cost. I'm sure I am not the first trades person to have been "Bitten" in the past for works undertaken.. Working for nothing is disheartening enough, being "Knocked" for the materials costs is depressing. Asking for a materials deposit doesn't indicate a "cash flow problem" and shouldn't set "alarm bells ringing". Any recommended trades person should provide a written estimate outlining Labour/materials costs and any T&Cs ie: a % deposit, start date, job description etc and show original receipts/provide copies of materials paid for. Even if a trades person is recommended its always worth asking for contactable references which shouldn't be a problem to provide. -
To those who called Mick (All Weather Building Maintenance)through recommendations on this forum - period from 9-16 Aug 2013 & left voice mails, namely Susan from Nunhead & Celia from Forest Hill areas. I received your voice mails while out of the Country, unfortunately the messages did not save to my in-box so I am unable to return your calls. If you would like to call again I will be more than happy to view the works. Many thanks Mick.
