  1. Myself, my husband and our two children need somewhere to stay on Friday night as we are coming back to ED to meet some friends who have also recently moved away. We found a reasonable accommodation on Sat night but everything on Fri is booked or too expensive. Is anyone in need of house sitting/ pet sitting for the night?

    Thank you

  2. Hello everyone

we have a soon to be 9 year old boy and a 6 year old girl (and a dad who is probably more keen!)

We have been thinking of getting a console... is it madness? Is it too soon?

At the moment they only watch about 30 mins of tv or Ipad games a day max. And I will still carry on with this rule.

If you have experience of any of these, which would you recommend?

I know absolutely nothing. I know my son is into Minecraft and football. My daughter does colouring and music games.

    Thank you

  3. We are going on 7th October for a week. We are arriving in Zadar and staying for two nights - What shall we do in Zadar? We then spend two nights at the Lakes National park - Any good itineraries? And after that we have another 3 nights - what would you suggest? Paklenica? Beach?! Thank you

We have two children 8 and 5 who are quite into walking and beach, not so good in museums and restaurants...

  4. We were refused a god by all the rescue places we contacted because we have two small children and 3 cats.

    So we had to buy.

We did a lot of research on breeds before choosing and then read lots of books about training and life with dogs.

We ended up with absolutely the right dog for us but I still was not prepared for how much it will change your life - going out for the day?! You can't leave a dog at home alone all Saturday. Going away for the week end?! You need to choose a place that will accept dogs and then limit your activities to places that accept dogs (no museums, cinemas, cathedrals, play parks, etc, few restaurants/ cafes... even natural attractions or National Trust properties or places like that often don't want dogs...)

Also, do you work from home? If you are home now, but will go back later and work away from home what is the dog going to do all day? Will you manage to walk the dog before and after work considering you have the kids?

Mine are almost 4 and almost 8 and still need a lot of persuading to take the dog out.

Anyway, I am not trying to put you off, just from my own personal experience I would say do your homework carefully and for a couple of months, keep a diary of how you spend your days and week ends and see if you could fit in the dog in your lifestyle.

    Best of luck!

  5. We have been thinking of having number 3. But our first is almost 8 and our second almost 5 (both Dec). By the time we decide, get pregnant and give birth it might be a year / a year and a half so making the ages gaps 6 - 6 1/2 and 9 - 9 1/2

Is that just too big? We fear we might end up with a child the other two won't end up playing/ interacting with and will grow up to be more of an only child and I will be the one who will have to entertain him/her ;-)

    What are your experiences?

    Thank you

  6. sorry children are 4 and 7. They have travelled a lot (India, Caribbeans, Africa, Italy... ) but they have always been more adventure / beach type trips or longer stays when we have just immersed ourselves in the local life. I have been to Rome many times and love it, but I was single and childless.

So I am wondering whether I am deluding myself that the children would enjoy the cultural city sightseeing trip and I better stick stick to the adventure/ beach combo rather ...

  7. HELP

Just had this crazy idea of going to Rome for 6 days with the kids and my partner in March. My vision is of the children taking in all the amazing sights, eating pizzas and gelatos, walking in awe through the forum, being overwhelmed by the beauty of it all and last but not least to practice a bit of Italian (they think I am the only one who speaks strange!) ...

Do you think the vision will be very far from the reality of them whining and complaining it's too far to walk and too much to see and 'not interesting'... ?!

I must book soon as flights are going up and hotels are getting booked! Is it a waste of good money?!

    Thank you

  8. We recently moved from ED to Devon and my son is attending a super local school.

We are now bidding to win 25K from Aviva for an outdoor 'classroom' which will benefit not just the school but the whole community (toddler groups, Scouts, visiting schools, the secondary school, etc.)If your school ever goes on a trip to the Jurassic Coast, it is likely they will use the outdoor hub too!

It is a small local community school so unless friends far and wide vote for us we don't stand a chance.

All you have to do is follow the link and vote 10 times (all in one go) to help us. PLEASE!

  9. the thing is that we moved from ED to the Devon/Dorset border last year. My son goes to school to Charmouth (next beach along from Lyme Regis) which is where people come to fossil hunt from all over the UK, so that's what we do almost every day after school - sit on the beach looking for fossils! And obviously they have done MA at school, and there is her museum in Lyme, so it is very much part of our life at the moment. It will be good to see something about her in a different place. Thank you.
