  1. Newts and frogs have a predator / prey relationship: "Newts eat tadpoles, so ponds with lots of newts tend to have fewer frogs. But then a decrease in frogs means fewer tadpoles and so less food available to newts, which can lead to fewer newts and so more frogs in following years - and so on." --sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk Another factor that may help explain your observation is the global decline in amphibian populations over the past few decades.
  2. Hey, chill out guys. No one is looking for sympathy or a hot beverage. It's ironic that the same driver was done twice in the space of a few months. That is amusing in and of itself.
  3. Same neighbour, new car (black Prius), catalytic converter stolen from the Aylesham Centre's (i.e. Morrisons supermarket) car park yesterday afternoon or evening? Police report filed. Did anyone see anything suspicious? Neighbour: 0 Lightning: 2
  4. Glycophosphate (aka glyphosphate / Roundup) inhibits an enzyme essential to plant growth. It is not very effective against Japanese Knotweed's underground rhizomes but will kill foliage thus starving the rhizomes over time. An environmentally friendlier herbicide that kills foliage on contact is 15-20% vinegar solution (handle with care), which is non-toxic, fully bio-degradable and causes no river/water-table pollution or human/animal health concerns. Recent research by Swansea University into knotweed extermination can be accessed from this page near the bottom: Swansea University scientists lead the way in tackling Japanese knotweed or directly at: Optimising physiochemical control of invasive Japanese knotweed

A veggie diet doesn't have to be boring when approached with a little imagination. Most vegetables can be oven-roasted, grilled or stir-fried, even things like parsnips, carrots, spring onions, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, collard greens, pak choi, onions, tomatoes, courgettes and cabbage. Most boiled veggies can be mashed together in interesting combinations with and without beans/pulses then shaped into cakes and fried or grilled. Don't forget sweet potatoes, yam, cassava (yuca) and taro. And aubergines and mushrooms. Most fruits can be roasted or grilled and included in a veggie meal, too; plantain, apples, apricots, plums, etc. Nuts. Dried fruits. The possibilities are endless ? no fancy cookbooks required.
  6. The vehicle was lifted up on a ramp today throwing some light on the matter. The 'thing' left hanging off was the mid-section silencer. The catalytic converter was embedded in the missing length of pipe. So this was a straightforward theft. A nice little earner for the thief given current precious metals prices and a ?500 repair bill for the owner.
  7. On Thursday night in SE Dulwich my friend's exhaust down pipe was neatly sawn off. The perp made off with a 3ft section of pipe including the flex joint. The catalytic converter was left hanging off. Why? Has this happened to anyone else nearby?
