  2. > ...having indulged in a bit of sport... Sport? Using the language of violence against women to make a funny? Hooting and braying sad claims to be some sort of cultural ?bermensch, albeit written like English is a second language? Jesus, you may not be the annoying little buffoon I referred to previously, but you certainly act like him, whether you?re a troll or not, and I have a feeling most here find you tedious, unfunny and irrelevant. Your sister has my sympathies.

  4. I think you should read it yourself, and this time, really read it. I do find myself wondering if you're the pompous little man I've seen being a tedious pain in the fundament in Franklins on Lordship Lane before now, lecturing Tim about the spelling of 'medlars', and telling anyone who'd listen - and there weren't many - that the world is going to end because of the rise of the grocer's apostrophe. You know the type, short, tubby, with a round red face, a hectoring, braying manner, and a sort of desperation that the world is moving on and leaving him behind. The sort who'd not only take great delight in putting a woman down for some perceived slight that doesn't really matter, but then re-live it by telling everyone about it, using suspiciously sexist language. Twice. Right, I'm off to do something modern, see you on the funny pages.
  5. A gentleman would have acted differently. And, unless you're an MMORPGer, there's no such word as 'exaltion'.

If I were a copyreader - and I have been - I'd send it back with at least thirteen reds. My particular bugbear (aside from the overuse of commas, apostrophes and needlessly redundant clauses) is the use of multiple exclamation marks; if one is a good enough writer, one should be able to convey enough meaning with one's words as to negate the need to use more than one.

As does the phrase 'slap her down'. Your whole post, adonirum, smacks of sexist, self satisfied, smart arsed superciliousness of the highest, and creepiest, order.

I can't imagine what you must mean. Anyway, busy busy, things to do, I must put those stale crumpets out for the birds.

  13. I've mixed chilli powder into the bird seed in my bird feeders; it doesn't affect the birds, and the squirrels hate it. I've also fired an air bazooka at the squirrels, it's hilarious to see them being knocked out of a tree by 'nothing'. When indoors, I've discovered that a laser pointer freaks them out. The foxes are perfectly well behaved in our garden.

  16. Yes, I forgot to mention Roullier White, they were incredibly helpful in sourcing and ordering a superb pair of earrings for my half-step-niece-in-law's birthday, and they've got some lovely glassware.
  17. Agreed with all the good ones above, but the bad ones? The aforementioned Mrs Robinson, East Dulwich Deli (he too finished a personal conversation on the phone before attending to me, this after deliberately turning his back when I said "Excuse me, can I pay for this?" ), The Bishop (being told to 'hurry up' when perusing the snack choices available, then abandoned when we took too long), and the shoe shop (I got tutted at when I answered, politely, with a smile, the question "Can I help you with anything?" with "Not yet thanks, just browsing"). These are all establishments I haven't used since.

Yes, I agree, and I think it's part of the reason why Northcote Rd went from being quite a pleasant shopping experience back in the 90s to a pain in the 4rse now. I had to pop by there a few weeks ago, and I saw two examples of jaw-droppingly rude behaviour by customers, both times with staff who grinned and bore it, and gave a 'what can you do' shrug after said customers had left.
  20. I've never ever said ED is sh1te, I've just come to realise that I had more fun up in CP, and want to move back there soon.
  21. While it's not the prime reason I've made the decision to move back up the hill to CP, it is a minor one; there was a time LL was a smiling, friendly place, but these days it's become more like Northcote Rd 'Between the Commons', where most of the staff in the shops are rude and unwelcoming, and the Lane itself is full of morons who think their off road baby buggies have more right to be on the pavement than the rest of us, and often assert that right by running into you. In Mrs Robinson recently, I had to ask for the attention of a staff member twice before she stopped texting and served me. Like I say, not a prime reason to leave the area, but one that helps tip the balance towards the friendlier, livelier Crystal Palace... Edit: A couple of honourable mentions are owed to Moxons, Franklins and William Rose for being friendly and helpful. And once, when I moaned about the snail-like pace of the service in Lucas, they knocked off the price of the coffees and teas we'd had with breakfast...
