  1. Well I did a Star Wars party for my son aged 7 - we made light sabres out of swimming noodles - cut in half with silver tape for the handles - they can fight each other without it hurting. Like this; https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/star-wars-birthday-bash?utm_term=.hyLrR7xOX#.nqd5wJmyL lots of ides from the internet- mainly people in the USA who do things much bigger and better than we did, we had games like - hunt the comets ( sweets in scrunched up silver foil hidden round the house) Obstacle course ( jedi training) keep the balloons up with light sabres ( more jedi training) pass the death star pin the light sabre on Darth Vader Fight the sith with silly string we served Yoda soda ( bitter lemon) seemed to go down quite well
  2. If I've got this right ( the front of you house faces west?) Then the back of your house will get the morning sun, half of your garden will get the sun all day ( a south facing border) but the other half will be in shade - in the evening ( depending on the height of your house) there will be a sunny spot at the end of your garden to catch the evening sun and the sun will come in the front windows of your house. - Not too dark if you sit in the room getting the sun
  3. The results will get sent to your Health Visitor and also be uploaded onto any electronic health records - you won't hear anything unless there is a problem, if you need confimration of normal results then your Health Visitor should be able to get this for you
  4. Don't know of a Star Wars entertainer but Sense Parties do on outer space themed party, however it is possible to do it yourself, we made light sabres out of those pool noodles which can be cut in half - they don't hurt. also we did party games such as; hunt the asteroid ( rolled up foil with a sweet/popcorn inside hidden in the house, lightsabre skills ( keep the ballon up with your light sabre) space obstacle course then we discovered web sites like this; http://www.coolest-kid-birthday-parties.com/star-wars-birthday-party-games.html lots of ideas here and the realisation that in America they take children's parties a lot more seriously than we do. Good luck
  5. Don't worry at all, he is just too young at the moment, if he doesn't mind walking around with poo in his trouses then it's going to be hard to find an incentive to get him fully toilet trained. I would take any pressure off and let him go back into nappies/ pull ups ( he can still do a wee in the toilet if he wants) and forget about it for a few months.Loads of kids aren't toilet trained until well after 3years of age.
  6. try Emmaus http://www.emmaus.org.uk/
  7. yes - it's the peddling of toys that really irritates though.
  8. Thanks that's a good idea, I'll take that back to our school
  9. Have you checked out the rooms at the Victoria on Bellenden road www.http://victoriainnpeckham.com/ - or the Church street Hotel in Camberwell? ( this has a great restaurant too) http://www.churchstreethotel.com/
  10. We have just had another great book week at my son's school but a lot of parents are becoming increasingly frustrated with the 'Scholastic book fair'. The book fair operates under the guise of selling books that will be the 'cornerstone of a child?s intellectual, personal and cultural growth'. However we have has a lot of experiences of children buying toys, painting kits and books that parents wouldn't classify as literature ( e.g. the 'Bratz' books) I really question Scholastic's motives, they do seem to exploit the schools interest in getting books at reduced prices and are happy to manipulate children into buying rubbish. I'm just wondering if any other parents out there have similar experience of Scholastic book fairs?
  11. The Secret garden in Crystal palace
  12. Theatre Peckham have lots of Saturday classes http://www.theatrepeckham.co.uk/
  13. I would recommend reading 'A Life's Work: On Becoming a Mother' by Rachel Cusk, this is the most honest account of what it is like to become a mother and reassures you that we don't all end up floating around in a blissful madonna stats but actually feel tired and doubt ourselves.
  14. The bench near the double gates is directly in front of one the goalie areas, I have no idea what the problem is with footballs going over the wall onto the footpath - this is what happens when young people play football - how horrible to 'curtail' the game by positioning unwanted furniture.
  15. Ursula Allison from Southwark always seems to be helpful, I have sent her an email pointing out that this is 'football game' space and one of the table blocks the goal - she is going to make a few enquiries and report back, here is her e mail if anyone else wants to e mail her [email protected]
