Dear all, We bring news of three exciting Folk Of The Wood ceilidh dancing events coming up - our Pirate Ceilidh on Friday November 20th, Christmas Ceilidh on Friday December 18th and New Years Eve Hogmanay Ceilidh on Thurs December 31st - full details at www.folkofthewood.co.uk All events are hosted by the acclaimed London ceilidh band Ceilidh Tree (www.ceilidhtree.co.uk) Nautical mayhem abounds at one of the undisputed highlights of our calendar - our Pirate Ceilidh on Fri 20th November at SE27's Portico Gallery (23a Knights Hill, West Norwood) starring London's Sea Shanty Choir, The Salts and Ceilidh Tree - set sail on the good ship Portico with a soundtrack of songs from the golden age of sail courtesy of Trad Academy's Sea Shanty Choir alongside BBC award winning pirate folk rockers The Salts. Ace ceilidh band Ceilidh Tree and pirate caller Chris Faulkner will be leading sea themed dances & there'll be rum punch and scrumpy at the bar, with food from Beamish & McGlue to stave off the scurvy! ?8 adults, ?6 concessions and ?5 under 18s until Friday 13th November.   2. Hi there, Spreading the word of our next monthly ceilidh, live music and morris dance extravaganza Folk Of The Wood (www.folkofthewood.co.uk) on Friday 17th Oct - flyer attached. This time we'll be welcoming back country / americana band No Coward Soul (ncsoul.tumblr.com) starring Alaskan Brad Schmauss with a mix of accordion, mandolin and sweet old time grooves. Also very excited to be showcasing morris dance legends Northwood Morris (www.northwoodmorris.co.uk) throwing some ancient shapes to the freshest jigs this side of the Cronx.   3. Dear all, South London's favourite ceilidh and live music night Folk Of The Wood is back on Friday 19th Sept, kicking off our 2nd year at Norwood's Portico Gallery. "One of my favourite bands of recent years" - Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2 The lads will be presenting a multi-instrumental cabaret of sing-a-long choruses, participatory fun and songs involving pirates, lizards, and Basque cyclists... Based in Bilbao and Dublin they have spent the last three years touring the UK and Europe playing theatres, circus galas and festivals! There will also be 3 sets of lively ceilidh dancing with Ceilidh Tree. "London's finest folk dance band" - Evening Standard Purveyors of rip-roaring folk dance music featuring stomping fiddles, melodeon and a guest caller to whip you into a willow shaped frenzy! We are celebrating one year of Folk Of The Wood ceilidh nights with an extra special birthday event this Friday 18th July, starring The Seven Champions molly dancers, indie-folk band The Hobos and ceilidh dance hosts Ceilidh Tree and caller. The Seven Champions (www.sevenchampions.org.uk) are the foremost purveyors of a highly entertaining morris dance style called Molly dancing - originating from the treacle mines of darkest Kent.   6. Dear all, Our next Folk Of The Wood Ceilidh Night is coming up on Fri 20th June with ace skiffle group City Ramblers Revival starring Hylda Sims from legendary 1950's group The City Ramblers! There'll also be three sets of lively folk dancing with Ceilidh Tree (www.ceilidhtree.co.uk) and guest caller to show you the moves, alongside fab folk duo Aimee Leonard and Emmie Ward featuring flute and bodhran. There'll be a fully licensed bar with somerset scrumpy, craft ale and wine on sale and hot food by Riverford Organic Farms.
