  1. CITY LIT TASTERS @ THE NINES PECKHAM April 5th - 9th The NINES is a playful bar, kitchen and venue in Copeland Park, the heart of Peckham?s emerging creative quarter. As an integral part of this culturally rich scene, we are dedicated to curating an events programme of music, arts and parties that reflect the spirit of our local community. This April London?s favourite adult learning institute, the City Lit, will be taking up residence at the NINES to bring us an entire week of taster sessions taught by leading artists and practitioners. Their take-over aims to showcase the rich creative talent to emerge from City Lit as well as bring a taste of what they do to the creative heart of South London. So stop wondering 'what if?' and join us this April to try your hand at a variety of brilliant sample classes. Have a crack at screen printing, street photography and jewellery making or simply come along to enjoy a drink, see some art, and celebrate what happens if you engage your creative potential. 5. Singing is good for the soul so why not treat your friends / families to something different this Christmas. I teach fun and relaxed acapella singing workshops to private groups in the comfort of your own homes. My sessions are suitable for people of all singing abilities, but specifically aimed to inspire confidence in your own voice and get you belting out in no time. I always start my sessions with relaxed warm-ups before looking at some simple rounds and then progressing to songs with two and three part harmonies depending on group size. I have a flexible approach to repertoire but otherwise teach gospel / folk / blues. Groups sessions last about 1.5 hours and price varies according to group numbers. A minimum of 5 people is generally preferred for a group session. If this sounds like a nice addition to your festive season or you have any questions then drop me an email Gwennie - [email protected] A bit about me: I trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and have worked professionally as a musician / singer for the last 7 years. As a teacher I have taught for the likes of the Blackheath Conservatoire, The Horniman Museum, The National Maritime Museum, The Idler Academy, The Nest Collective, The Trad Academy to name a few in addition to running a number of music projects in community settings across the globe.

  9. PECKHAM VOICES Do you live in Peckham and have a story to tell? Wherever you come from, whatever you do, if you live locally then we want to hear from you! Let's start with the obvious, we reckon Peckham is pretty brilliant, and so we've set-up Peckham Voices to celebrate and honour all the stories and diverse experiences that make up our unique community. With the help of Southwark Council and Peckham Festival we'll be creating an online archive of Peckham's stories - from work, play, love, heritage and experiences of change - which we hope will promote the value of listening and preserve our local tales for years to come. All those who take part will be given CD / electronic copies of their interviews and a place in the public archive. Next year the stories will also feature as part of a wider exhibition at Copeland Gallery. Over the Peckham Festival weekend we'll be recording your stories from our travelling booth. Take part by booking a slot at one of the sessions below. We look forward to seeing you for a chat! If you cant make any of the dates below we are happy to arrange slots beyond the festival September 8th: Peckham Liberal Club 2pm - 8pm September 9th: Peckhamplex 10am - 4pm September 10th: Peckham All Saints Church 10am - 4pm September 11th: Blenheim Arches 10am - 2pm Book your interview slot by emailing [email protected] Twitter: @PeckhamVoices

  16. NINES Film Club returns with Children of Paradise (1945) Tuesday March 22nd 7.30pm Free entry The NINES | Copeland Park | 133 Rye Lane | SE15 2HD www.theninespeckham.co.uk Synopsis Poetic realism reached sublime heights with Children of Paradise, widely considered one of the greatest French films of all time. This nimble depiction of nineteenth-century Paris?s theatrical demimonde, filmed during World War II, follows a mysterious woman (Arletty) loved by four different men (all based on historical figures): an actor, a criminal, a count, and, most poignantly, a mime (Jean-Louis Barrault, in a longing-suffused performance for the ages). With sensitivity and dramatic ?lan, director Marcel Carn? and screenwriter Jacques Pr?vert resurrect a world teeming with hucksters and aristocrats, thieves and courtesans, pimps and seers. And thanks to a major new restoration, this iconic classic looks and sounds richer and more detailed than ever.
