  1. Lived there for 3 years (now moved away). Very convenient - both for ED station, but also 37 bus / proximity to Herne Hill station compared with rest of ED when Southern Rail failing. Also walkable via Greenway to King's / Denmark Hill for the more energetic. Yes, noisy compared with other roads we'd lived on - the 37 runs all night, and there is more night-time foot traffic than some places, presumably due to proximity to Lordship Lane. Parking - not always easy, though free and no permits. We lived in the section opposite the hospital and had repeated problems, often ending up in the side roads behind them. Hospital is generally a very trouble free neighbour, with so much of the site being out of use, but as others mention there are school building plans in the medium term.
  2. 0720 was cancelled going south this AM; 0731 was then nearly 10 minutes late. Hopeless currently. 30 minutes isn't much use as a 'delay repay' threshold when many of the journeys made from East Dulwich are so short.
  3. What / who do you consider a resident James? One of the major problems of this sort of 'localism' in London is that with boroughs so close together, decisions made supposedly for the benefit of one groups of residents can have serious consequences on residents of another borough who get no say in the matter. Even if Lambeth really believe it is appropriate, setting this up when there are major roadworks at Oval, Vauxhall and Elephant, not to mention significant public transport problems on national rail thanks to the London Bridge / Thameslink works, smacks of gross incompetence at best.
  4. Needless to say there doesn't seem to be an option for 'abandon the whole thing, and use the 'spare' money to pay off government debt or reduce tax'.
  5. Virtually all the arguments advanced here for 20mph limits could also be advanced for 15, 10, or even 5mph. The reality is that a compromise must be struck somewhere. The only absolutely safe roads would have no moving traffic on them at all. Whatever people's views on the limit, my main concern currently is the conflicting and confusing signage, meaning that all the limits are widely ignored.
  6. We had exactly the same issue with Conway last summer - signs put up on East Dulwich Grove but with completely the wrong dates. We came home to find the car missing and they only showed me where it was after I threatened to call the police explaining that I could only assume the car was stolen if it wasn't where it had been left. We did complain to Southwark Council at the time, and received a patronising response with a number of inaccuracies. As my wife was very heavily pregnant at the time I didn't have time to take it any further. If they ignore the dates on the order they've been given (which gives them permission to move cars) then they're breaking the law. It can't do any harm to repeatedly point this out ... though what it would take to make Southwark stop using this company I really don't know ...
  7. The implementation of this policy is utter chaos, whatever one thinks of its merits. At the end of Medlar Street in Camberwell the left hand sign said 30 and the right hand one 20 yesterday ... this can only suggest that this policy has been rushed through for political reasons with little regard for any common sense. In the past, 20 limits in obviously residential side-roads and around schools seem to have been at least partially respected as the purpose is obvious. 20 limits on major through roads (eg Dog Kennel Hill, Denmark Hill) are very likely to be widely ignored, and impossible to enforce with current resources ... of course once people are in the habit of ignoring these, there is a serious risk that the small number of necessary 20 limits are ignored as well. Road conditions in the north and south of the borough are very different, and yet again it seems that a policy that might have some merits in the north of the borough has been foisted on the rest of us.
  8. Alleviating Walworth road is surely urgent; was never a quick moving route but seems a lot worse since all the 'traffic calming' added in recent years. Streatham route as James suggests seems a sensible addition and I have supported this as well. My biggest worry is the delay. I accept that actually building it will take time. But do we really need to have so much consultation / impact assessment etc that it will take 9 years from now until work can even start? We can ill afford to delay this kind of infrastructure, given that overcrowding is a problem already. This is not particularly TfLs problem as legislation ties their hands ... more a 'national disease' of being afraid to change things ...
  9. As a follow up, I do have a photo of the sign in front of the bay on the south side of EDG from roughly number 87-119, and will include this in what I send to Southwark.
  10. We too had a my wife's car moved ... we noticed on arriving back from being out locally. I did eventuallly manage to persuade Conway's employees to take me to the car, and then to the only Southwark employee on site (though this entailed walking up and down almost the whole length of East Dulwich Grove twice in the rain). I only got this outcome after pointing out very loudly with several Conway employees around that the car had been taken illegaly and I'd have to call the police there and then if they couldn't show me where it had been put. Conway's explanation was that they knew full well that the road signs only debarred parking from 11 July onwards, and were very uncomfortable about moving cars in this situation, having already had a confrontation with someone at the beginning of the work, but were overruled by the council employee in charge of the project, who claimed that the signs had been put up wrongly and should have stated a different date. I also managed to speak to the person who moved the cars, who assures me that he has before and after photos of all the cars. Seeing as there are two small scratches on ours that I don't remember seeing before after it was moved, I will also be requesting copies of these (which he has promised to send to Southwark) before deciding whether to take further action. The council employee I eventually spoke to was a Mr Arnold James-Dixon, who was eventually apologetic, though only after standing in silence when told my initial complaint and then only speaking when asked why he wasn't immediately apologising. He seemed to have no concept that they'd effectively taken vehicles without consent, and was surprised when I said that knocking on doors to check wasn't good enough, given that it is quite normal for some people to be out but not be in their car at the time. I have informed him at the time that I will be complaining directly to the council about this; from what I found out in the rain last night, it does appear to be the council's responsibility even if the contractors were the people who actually moved the cars. He tells me that his email address is simply firstname.lastname @southwark.gov.uk, though I have yet to see if this gets any response - in fairness I don't expect him to be in the office today as it was well after 10pm last night when he was eventually found. The car was on Hillsboro road - nearly 400 years away, and far from ideal for my wife who is in her last week at work before maternity leave and not really in a position therefore to walk a long way to find it. If any of you councillors spot this, please take this up directly; the actions of your employees and contractors last night were an abuse of power, presumably illegal, and deserve strong sanctions. I will in any case be writing directly with these points, but hope this information clears up who was responsible to the best of my knowledge for others affected.
  11. Have just got home late at night to find my wing mirror broken off ... pavement side, parked close to a bollard so can't see how it is anything other than deliberate ... East Dulwich Grove opposite the hospital. These problems do the area no good at all ... seems to be plenty of CCTV to capture parking offences, but nothing to capture this ....
  12. Buses better south of Elephant, but had to walk there from London bridge, impossible to get on anything around London Bridge earlier. One friend further south-east has just taken 4 hours to get home - I suspect highly unlikely things will be back to normal tomorrow at this rate ...
