Colin from K&O sorted out mine. He found where he thought the mice were coming in and filled the hole. He used poison which mummifies the mice, no smells whatsoever, and I've seen no more mice either.

Bakerloo line extension to Camberwell?
indiepanda replied to Ron70's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No, I use the bus to get all the way to the office and I know two other friends do the same. I could use the train from Peckham Rye but the Blackfriars service isn't quite frequent or reliable enough to make it worth paying the extra cost bearing in mind the bus I'd use to get there goes all the way to the office. Tube in Camberwell would be handy but not sure it would change my route to work, might use it at the weekend as I do the tube from Elephant now. -
Was a great night, nice to see so many of the old faces. I miss the old forum drinks! And we'll miss you and your family El Pipe. Great to finally hear Otta doing his stuff too - had heard good things but never been to any of his gigs.

Curious article - quotes Nunhead as the area with lowest life expectancy, then in the interviews with the people from the poorest areas it's Newham they are from not Nunhead.

Heathrow or Gatwick from ED?
indiepanda replied to LucyInTheRye's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I also use ADS taxis and would recommend them highly. City would be my first choice but it's rare for me to fly from there as the choice of destinations is more limited. I usually choose Gatwick over Heathrow as it seems to be a bit more reliable. The runways at Heathrow are pretty much at capacity so anything goes wrong and the delays mount up really quickly, and they seemed to struggle more with getting the airport moving again with the snow. -
Wandsworth by 7.45 tomorrow drive or bus/ train?
indiepanda replied to purplehaze's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
TFL seems to reckon get the P13 or train from ED to Streatham and then the train to Wandsworth Common from there. -
Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible

I think Ultraburner meant two people earning ?100k jointly - i.e. average of ?50k each, which I guess is more common. I don't think everyone buying round here is buying on income anyway. When I was looking around the estate agent had cash buyers in their twenties looking at similar properties to me - bank of Mum and Dad buying them their first home. How the other half live... -

MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You have a point though poppet27. But I would say the super rich aren't generally salaried workers - they are those who have inherited wealth, run successful businesses or have been mega successful in the arts etc. ?100k pa income doesn't buy you a house in ED these days unless you have a serious deposit. And to me, the super rich live in large houses or mega apartments the other side of the river, not modest terraces in ED. -
I saw a street cleaner picking their way down a path that was covered with wet slippery leaves and picking out the tiny bits of rubbish within it. I did wonder what the point was - but perhaps they were going to tackle the leaves separately and add to garden refuse for composting? I can see how they could be a nasty trip hazard to someone less steady on their feet - I almost slipped over myself.

I live near there. Ok, it takes a bit longer to walk home from the pubs on Lordship Lane, but am only there on weekends and it's hardly a hardship to walk a mile. Plus up till midnight you can use the P13 although it isn't very frequent. As others have said, you've got the 63/363 to take you Peckham Rye station which is a way more useful station than East Dulwich, and is also then a short walk to the Bellenden Rd area if you would rather go there than Lordship Lane. It's right near Peckham Rye park which is lovely, and you've got a useful parade of shops nearby. I would have rather lived nearer Lordship Lane, but for a ten minute extra walk from the area I've have liked to be living in I have got an extra bedroom, bigger garden and offroad parking. For me the trade was worth it.

71026. I was ok on the places I'd been to, but a bit clueless on the others.

Moving to the area! Your Opinions Please!
indiepanda replied to PeterThePhotographer's topic in The Lounge
?400k sounds like nice 2 bed Victorian flat territory. Might find a rare 2 bed modern house in that price range, but there aren't many of them in the area. I live in a row of terraced houses and a number of my neighbours sold this year - all got very near asking price so I would assume you are going to have to pay pretty much what properties are advertised for at the moment. (and they were all well over ?400k) Prices might not be Clapham territory, but they have been rising fast here this year. I fell in love with the area when I first came to look around over 5 years ago now and bought nearly 3 years ago. Wouldn't want to move anywhere else in London (well, ok, there are other areas I'd like, but way more expensive so not a realistic prospect!). I love the parks, good range of local shops, bars etc, easy connections to town albeit not via the tube. Havign said that, if I were buying now I'd actually look closer at the south side of Peckham as Peckham Rye station is better connected than East Dulwich and you are still close enough to Lordship Lane to enjoy it, plus Bellenden Road is improving all the time. Not really much cheaper than East Dulwich these days though. I've made friends via the forum and love the fact I can socialise here without having to head into central London to meet friends. -
I hadn't twigged the name change until this summer and felt a bit of a pillock when I worked it out as was quite obvious on reflection. But then I don't spend much time in the lounge these days.

Yes, in a hot market you really have to get to know the agents and frankly suck up to them a bit to ensure they think of you when something that suits you comes onto the market. May sound incredibly unappealing, but other people will do that and will get in first. Even when I bought when the market was a lot quieter here (3 years back) not all agents were quick to get back to me about places I'd inquired about. Was very different to when I first went house-hunting back in the mid 90s when the estate agents had plenty to sell and few buyers - they were chasing me then. -
Reminds me I must get my light box out. As the others said I can just about cope till the other side of Christmas, but by mid January with no let up in sight of long cold nights and busy days auditing, am usually getting a bit down. I can't even think about getting away for a holiday between Jan and March because of work being so busy, but at least I am going away to Southern Spain over New Year which am hoping will help - got to be warmer than here.

the Stik on the side of Mrs Robinson - STOLEN
indiepanda replied to IngridB's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would say I can't believe the depths some people stoop to, but after the Hepworth in Dulwich Park was stolen I am not sure there is anything I wouldn't believe. Sad that the Stik has gone too. -
The advert is very cute, but oh dear, Lily Allen. What a lame cover. I think I'll turn the sound off next time it's on.

Several attempted break-ins Monday 14th, Upland Road
indiepanda replied to J27's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
But if they are burglars they could be driving a stolen car with fake plates... -
Definitely both departures will warrant a big send off - both were part of the drinks crowd that made me feel so welcome when I first moved here. Just wish the property prices weren't getting silly forcing some people out - though realise that isn't the only reason people move on.

There are 3 Stiks in Dulwich Village, two on Court Lane and one in the park so not convinced your argument holds water. -
Sorry to hear you've had such a negative experience of forumites Andy. The disadvantage of internet forums is it does give some bullies a very easy way of attacking people. For what it's worth, as a long time member of the forum, I only take remotely seriously any criticism of a business if it comes from posters who I know are generally positive and in many cases have met in person. Some random rant just makes me roll my eyes. Even the best establishments listed on Trip Advisor sometimes have the odd bad review from someone who just enjoys a good whinge about nothing. Has to be said the forum has been a massive positive for me about East Dulwich, from being the route to which I've met almost all my local friends to helping me sell old stuff, find tradesmen and various other services. But I am cautious about what threads I get involved in - life is too short for some arguments!

If Harry Potter is of interest, if it happens to be a Monday or at the weekend, London Walks do guided tours which visit some of the locations used in the City / Westminster:- http://www.walks.com/London_Walks_Home/Harry_Potter/default.aspx

I'm not a dog owner, but I wouldn't like it if dogs were banned from the parks either. Vast majority of owners do the right thing and pick up after their dog, and whilst I am sure there is the odd badly behaved dog in the parks, most of them are lovely and seeing them cheers me up. If we are going to start banning dogs, where is it going to end - banning humans because some of them are a menace too?
