Very Old Pic (Apparently it's an East Dulwich house)

I was thinking the fact the water supply for my house is shared with next door was a sign they built as one house and split later but maybe it's just poor design not shoddy conversion! It's been a pain when I've had plumbing work done anyway... -
I can't believe some people are getting so hot under the collar about women putting their make up on whilst on the bus. If I don't want to watch, I can stick my nose in my book. It's hardly up there with eating smelly food or shouting down your mobile - and even those I can ignore for the most part. Life is too short to waste getting irate about such trivia. Frankly I'm impressed they do such a good job of it - I have difficulty enough not messing up my mascara applying it whilst still. Truth be told a lot of the time I go out without make up at all - and with wet hair. If anyone wants to waste their energy judging me for that they are welcome to - but don't expect me to care what you think. I make an effort when I need or want to, but sometimes I'd rather have more sleep!

Reason to be Cheerful in East Dulwich
indiepanda replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I could list loads, but I won't be greedy so I'll pick one: Peckham Rye - feel lucky to have such a nice park so close -

Lol, no, was filmed last year - late spring from recollection - was to promote Freeview's summer of sport. Definitely no reason to open windows recently.... hard pressed some days to want to open the door! -

PS if you watch this from 9 seconds in to 14 you can see some of those Underhill Rd houses -

Incidentally, I can see the same black and white checkerboard tiles in the doorway that I have in mine. -

I think some in some parts of ED might have been but am sure when I looked at the deeds for mine it suggested they'd been split later. The fact that I still share a water supply with my neighbour would seem to suggest they weren't originally built seperately. Plus the internal front doors are badly placed if they were designed that way - my dad ended up taking mine off the day the removal men brought all my stuff out of storage as when open they block the entrance to the stairs. -

Travel advice - 2 weeks, ?1000, 3 girls, where to go?

Not convinced it always works - one of my friends from work went with her boyfriend, she was very modestly dressed and doing nothing to attract attention, but still had men calling her a slut - presumably just for being blonde haired / blue eyed. I went to Tunisia with a friend and found it equally unpleasant from that perspective - soon as you left the hotel complex it was harassment all the way. I would definitely recommend Eastern Europe - maybe a combination of Croatia and Montenegro - only thing is the sea might not be warm enough for swimming this time of year, depends what you want. Dubrovnik is in the SE corner of Croatia and it's easy to travel on by bus from there to the nicest spots in west Montenegro, Kotor is almost as stunning as Dubrovnik and Budva Old Town is also lovely. I didn't get to Herceg Novi but it's another worth visiting. You can do a bus trip from Dubrovnik into Bosnia and Herzegovina going to Mostar and I'd recommend that too. Or, as an alternative, your money should go far in Bulgaria - I visited the three biggest cities last year (Sofia / Plovdiv / Varna) and all had lots of interest to visit - only thing is Varna is a long trek by bus from the others - I would be more inclined to do Sofia / Plovdiv and some of the smaller places thereabouts, it's near the Rhodope mountains if you fancy a bit of hiking. -

I've had food poisoning before and it's no joke. I've looked at the list and found some places I eat have been scored rather low, and others much higher, am more likely to revisit the higher scored ones now.

Planning Application for 1 Lordship Lane
indiepanda replied to Freddy1929's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
These days I think any well managed pub will be trying to "wring every last penny out" rather than go the way of the poorly managed pubs. Anyway, judging by the number of posts on here asking for where to put family / friends up in SE22, there is a demand - and isn't that what business is all about - meeting customers needs? Provided the concerns re waste disposal etc are dealt with, I think it's a great idea. Good luck to them. -

Lol, no. Bet Vicky Pryce wishes she'd kept her mouth shut instead of seeking revenge.

The story definitely doesn't involve any DNA tests or need for them I'm afraid so not Kyle material. Having said that, it is a good story but I'll save it for those EDFers I know in the flesh rather than baring my soul on the forum.

Would it just be clothes, or would you include accessories - like shoes and bags? I suspect I might struggle to find many people my size (16/18) to swap clothes with, but I have some nice bags that haven't had much use that I'd like to swap.

Advice for professional couple moving to ED??
indiepanda replied to EagleJon19's topic in The Lounge
What do I wish someone told me before I moved to East Dulwich? Investigate the bus routes - I used to get the train to work from Peckham Rye having caught the bus to get there, but in the snow when the trains weren't running, I discovered the number 63 goes all the way to my office. It saves me over ?4 a day and makes for a much more relaxing journey to work as I always get a seat (I get on at Dunstans Rd), little bit slower, but less prone to going majorly wrong - e.g. random delays and cancellations. Other recommendations. Make the most of the parks - we're blessed with both Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park which are both lovely. For doctors, avoid Dulwich Medical Centre on Crystal Palace Road - it's really hard to get appointments. If your wife likes perfume, she should check out Roullier White, which has a fantastic selection of niche perfumes that you won't get in most department stores. They aren't pushy in there either, I prefer to try something and if I like how it dries down over a few hours I might go back and buy and I've never felt that's a problem for them. If your house needs work, the forum is a great place to get recommendations, but do check out the credibility of those posting - you get quite a few fake recommendations. I always check if the recommenders are people who've made lots of post about other topics - i.e. less likely to just be friends of the tradesperson. If you need catering for any event, try Suzanne James on Barry Rd. I went to one of her supper evenings recently and the food was amazing. Callow Locksmiths on Lordship Lane are great - I made the mistake of getting some keys cut in central London once but having seen the price they charge I'll never make that mistake again! Finally, just enjoy - I've been here nearly 5 years and I love it, can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else in London. -
Being single beats being in a bad relationship by miles, or even a so so relationship. I found being single hard when I lived in a small town where pretty much everyone was married with kids, but in London there's so many more single people to hang out with, and even those that are in relationships seem less inclined to vanish once they've settled down. If you've got lots of friends you are often less lonely than someone in a bad relationship. Nonetheless, I'm not giving up on the chance of love yet, will just be quite fussy. And by that I don't mean earns a fortune / drop dead gorgeous, just mean am not putting up with being treated badly. Fortunately I haven't suffered like some have, but my ex fiance concealed a very big secret from me that blew our relationship up in catastrophic style so honesty is going to be very important in the future.

Offer him a 1p coin in case he has a 2p one? Can't say I'd lose my temper over it, coppers are a pain to carry around.

I have penguin covered pajamas.... No uggs (or copies of) or rollers though and the furthest I go out of my house in my pajamas is the rubbish bin.

No 63 and 363 don't seem to have the same amount of problems in the snow, nor does the 12, might be easier than walking to where you can pick up a bus in Camberwill (I know 63/363 got to Elephant not Camberwell but wasn't sure which direction you go from Camberwell)

Digging out/ gritting the path outside your house

What happened to the possible extension of the 63 bus?

Bic Basher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Another option could be to route it via Route P13 > which would increase bus frequency along Whateley > Road and most of Underhill Road, then run it along > Dunstans Road, right into FH Road then as above. Now that would be a great option, I'm 25 minutes walk from ED station and in theory the P13 would get me there quicker - but I never wait for it because it's so infrequent and doesn't run to time. I'd use HOP station more if I could get there too. Katrusja - congratulations on the most well thought posts I've ever seen on the EDF, hope your thoughts get followed up by the counsellors. -
I know the mother of one of the children that was killed in this shooting. I can't begin to imagine what she and the others affected are going through right now. I hope Obama has the will to push through some changes in the gun law in response to this, but I fear that this will happen over and over again, with more innocent lives being wrecked senselessly.

I only trust recommendations from posters who I trust - mix of those I know off forum or those who post regularly and seem to talk sense. I also prefer to have multiple recommendations for the same person rather than just one. So far I've been not had any bad experiences.

Hence where governments fail > consumers can make a major impact. Am sure that's precisely why Starbucks are changing their tune, they've certainly not got morals overnight. It's like all the green policies companies have (mine included). They like to make out they are saving energy because its environmentally friendly etc, but lower energy bills don't exactly hurt the profits either. I've hardly spent anything in Tescos since I read a couple of books which shed some light on the shabby way they treated their suppliers... not that I think they've missed me that much.

I love coffee and therefore hate Starbucks - the stuff they sell is really below par compared to a lot of the independent cafes, come to that even my Nespresso does better tasting coffee. If I did like it, would it change my shopping choice? Maybe, there's usually a Nero or Costa nearby if wanted poor chain coffee. But it shouldn't be down to consumers to guilt companies into paying an appropriate level of tax, it should be for government to ensure the tax rules are tighter so companies have to make a fair contribution and can't get round it with tax avoidance schemes. If it's legal companies will do it, expecting large corporations to be moral is, unfortunately, naive. Was interesting to see the power of bad publicity harnessed by 38 Degrees during the Olympics though - many of the sponsors gave up the tax breaks they'd been promised to sponsor because of their efforts.
