Dance the Big Apple, Charleston & Lindy Hop dance styles as part of a friendly and growing local Swing Dance scene. Build skills and confidence to dance in a group, on your own or with a partner to a range of jazz band music. Learn a brief history of the dance styles, basic footwork and steps, posture and co-ordination, and simple (but impressive!) routines. No partner needed. These courses are taught by Wendy Steatham, a professional dance artist whose career has included roles as a performer, choreographer, teacher, movement director, lecturer and project manager. Wendy was Movement Director on Sarah Turner?s most recent film ?Public House?, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2015 and which features the Ivy House Swing class and dancers!

Beginners: 11.15am - 12.15pm / ?50 Get your weekend started with a swing with this 5-week foundation course taught by choreographers from the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Learn the vibrant jazz dances of the 1920s-1940s, have fun and boost your fitness at the same time. The course will focus on foundation Lindy Hop and Charleston techniques as well as some solo Big Apple essentials! No partner necessary.   6. The homecoming screening of Public House - the beautiful documentary film about community owned Peckham pub 'The Ivy House'. Screening at East Dulwich Picturehouse tonight (14/05/17) at 6.30pm. Many of the local community cast and performers will be there to take part in a Q&A with Director Sarah Turner after the film. Hosted by Wendy Steatham, Temujin Gill and Sunanda Biswas and joined by the Fliss Gorst Band, the night will include a Lindy Hop workshop, performances, a live band and lots of opportunities to dance to great music. The course will be taught by Nunhead-local Wendy Steatham. Wendy is a professional dance artist whose career has included roles as a performer, choreographer, teacher, movement director, lecturer and project manager. In 2011-2012 Wendy worked as Mass Movement Choreographer on all four Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. She co-led the audition and rehearsal process, training the cast for the Ceremonies and directing the large scale cast rehearsals, including the NHS ?Swing Out Sister? sequence in Danny Boyle?s acclaimed Opening Ceremony.
