Dormer addition and small ensuite to existing loft conversion
egoode replied to Delfi's topic in The Lounge
I'm looking at doing the same for my current loft conversion and have been told they basically have to start from scratch and it will cost around 30-32k. This was from just talking to them but not having anyone come look at it as yet. -
I've been going to the Wednesday night book club that meets in The Clockhouse. It's a really friendly group and it's next meeting is 11th Feb. Also there's a group that meets up on Saturday at 10am in Peckham Rye to exercise, there's no cost, it's really friendly and a mix of abilities. We meet out the front of Cafe on the Rye and go there after for a coffee to recover.

I've had a couple over the years and I basically tip double what their usual rate is. I'm not sure what people usually give and I'm from Australia where it's unusual to tip anyone at all so not always sure if I'm tipping correctly.

I also said in my questionnaire that I thought the 2 proposed stations weren't enough, hopefully they listen. I also thought for the Old Kent Road branch they should try to ensure one of the stations is an interchange with Queen's Road Peckham station as that seems the most likely branch to be built as they can get money from developers and will ensure that the Clapham Junction Branch of the Overground has an interchange with the line and there's also all the trains to london bridge that go through there. Although I think the Peckham Rye branch would be the better option to serve current residents. -
I've never heard of tipping binmen or the postman as someone else suggested. I'm not even sure how I'd do it given I'm not home when they come by. I do tip my cleaner though at Christmas.

You could do what the previous owner of my flat did which was convert the loft without any permissions and deal with the legal paperwork afterwards. However my purchase of the flat took over 17 months trying to sort it all out in the end so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you need to sell in the next couple of years.

Where have you seen they are charging to enter this event? The press release on their website said it is free entry.

Why don't you speak to a mortgage broker and get their view on it. Given the new Mortgage Market Review rules that are making it harder for people to get mortgages and remortgage they might be able to give you a view as to whether you are likely to get a mortgage at the amount you want.

I think this would be great I much prefer to swim in an outdoor pool than an indoor one.

The Evening Standard had an article last Friday that a consultation on the extension to the Bakerloo line will start next month. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/plans-for-bakerloo-line-extension-for-southeast-move-step-closer-9671863.html Hopefully this is the first step towards it becoming a reality, even if I'm not around in 2040 when they currently have it proposed for.

I wasn't aware there was a Thai place nearby I'll have to check it out.

I moved to Nunhead 9 months ago and love it but wish there was a couple of restaurant options. There's lots of good takeaways but a few restaurants to have a nice dinner out would be a great addition.

I agree, there definitely needs to be more pedestrian options from Canary Wharf or Isle of Dogs across the river.

East Dulwich Leisure Centre - problems

You didn't actually mention in your first post that they weren't letting him in due to an 'outstanding debt'. Your first post sounded like his card just didn't work and I believe most people assumed he was still able to use the gym. Maybe if you had explained the situation correctly in the first place you would have got better responses. If it was me I would be taking down my bank statements showing the money coming out and demanding a refund for all the months they wouldn't let me in (although I also wouldn't have let it go on for so long). The alternative is to stop the Direct Debit you can usually do it via online banking and write at letter to them saying if they don't refund the money you will take legal action. However as he's an adult it really should be him doing this himself and not his Mum. At some point he needs to find a way to deal with issues he's having on his own.
