I bought my flat last year from KFH and it was a difficult process as the sale took 17 months from offer to completion however I found them very good at keeping me up to date with what was happening with the purchase and they were not part of the delay but did their best to keep the sale progressing. Personally as a buyer I didn't find them that bad to deal.

The smoke alarms have to be wired in with a battery back up, battery only ones aren't acceptable.

Dormer addition and small ensuite to existing loft conversion
egoode replied to Delfi's topic in The Lounge
I'm looking at doing the same for my current loft conversion and have been told they basically have to start from scratch and it will cost around 30-32k. This was from just talking to them but not having anyone come look at it as yet. -
I go to a class at the Old Nun's Head on Tuesdays Angela's the teacher and she's really good. It can be difficult to get into that class as it's only a small room but she also does classes at Goose Green Clinic on Thursday so that one might have availabiliity. You can find details here: http://www.illumepilates.com/classes.html

I've been going to the Wednesday night book club that meets in The Clockhouse. It's a really friendly group and it's next meeting is 11th Feb. Also there's a group that meets up on Saturday at 10am in Peckham Rye to exercise, there's no cost, it's really friendly and a mix of abilities. We meet out the front of Cafe on the Rye and go there after for a coffee to recover.

I've had a couple over the years and I basically tip double what their usual rate is. I'm not sure what people usually give and I'm from Australia where it's unusual to tip anyone at all so not always sure if I'm tipping correctly.

I also said in my questionnaire that I thought the 2 proposed stations weren't enough, hopefully they listen. I also thought for the Old Kent Road branch they should try to ensure one of the stations is an interchange with Queen's Road Peckham station as that seems the most likely branch to be built as they can get money from developers and will ensure that the Clapham Junction Branch of the Overground has an interchange with the line and there's also all the trains to london bridge that go through there. Although I think the Peckham Rye branch would be the better option to serve current residents. -
I've never heard of tipping binmen or the postman as someone else suggested. I'm not even sure how I'd do it given I'm not home when they come by. I do tip my cleaner though at Christmas.

Solicitor for house purchase recommendation
egoode replied to trp489's topic in Request a Tradesperson
I also recommend Glazer Delmar on North Cross Road. I had quite a difficult time with my purchase and they were brilliant with chasing things and keeping me up to date. -
You could do what the previous owner of my flat did which was convert the loft without any permissions and deal with the legal paperwork afterwards. However my purchase of the flat took over 17 months trying to sort it all out in the end so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you need to sell in the next couple of years.

I've used Shaun, website here: http://www.shaunthehandyman.co.uk/ He removed part of a kitchen bench for me and did a great job and cleaned up afterwards. I've also got him coming around this week do some odd jobs like hanging pictures etc.

Where have you seen they are charging to enter this event? The press release on their website said it is free entry.

Why don't you speak to a mortgage broker and get their view on it. Given the new Mortgage Market Review rules that are making it harder for people to get mortgages and remortgage they might be able to give you a view as to whether you are likely to get a mortgage at the amount you want.
