Are you on glue? On glue ? What's that supposed to mean, really ? The feeling i'm getting is someone who's disenchanted with where they live, which is fine. But if you've invested in an area both structurally and emotionally, then that's at odds with most others who've done the same. It's a good and ever changing area, overall However, if you're in the position of seeing property values climb beyond your reach, as many people are in London, then that's a different perspective. I'm also sure that if you took a straw pole of those people who have moved to, or continues to live here, then they'd have a more positive view of their choices, investment and area And the friend from the rolling hills, she's happy with her lot now I see. Except it seems a bit disingenuous, to have made so much from an investment her family made, only to come back and bad mouth the very place of her good fortune Are you sure it's not you, projecting your feelings through her ? Maybe copy her in, then "she" could express her views in person

No please don't, i'm feeling uncomfortable for her/you, and i'm also wondering how much of this isn't about "her" I'm also getting the resentful-renter vibe here too

As with other place near theatres or cinemas, traders will have a menu of quicker/faster quality food and wine etc. The kind of pre or after theatre offers you see elsewhere Not sure about a Cous-cous bar (whatever that is) but a Ranoush Juice might work. The attractive thing about that area of the lane is, the shops have a frontage to trade off, as well as the shop space itself

I really like Brockley too. I ran my business out of their for a about a year.(tho I've moved to 'edgier/cheaper per sq ft Deptford) Lovely big houses, wide streets with a healthy scattering of nutters to strike fear into the faces of the middle classes, or anyone else for that matter It's got a 'spoons (thankfully, cos then we know where the nutters are) and a few cafe's that sell nice coffee and cakes And it's got one of the best 'award winning' food markets around, (Brockley Market) with a healthy mix of producers and people selling hot food (like wood fired pizza) from stalls and cute old vans. Very nice on a Saturday indeed It's also dead easy to commute to with the new overground and it's only minutes away from Canary Wharf. Is that a good thing tho Hmmmmm....oh and Professor Green is a resident See you at the market on Saturday Louisa ? it's very communal indeed

Good luck to her, up there in Hereford/Glosterland Tho thinking about it, "she' must have had the very biggest of houses to sell in Dunstans Road 20 odd years ago. I'm glad she's cock-a-hoop with her good fortune, so much so she can snort with derision at the very place and people she made her considerable stash from I too hope to move to my Shangi-lala Melon Farm, but in the meantime i'll have to settle with the house I bought 15 yrs ago. Thankfully my delusion allows me to function in this, the most cosmopolitan of sh*tholes I'm sure she feels my pain *kicks chicken box* Edited to add: I've kicked a 'virtual' chicken box here. As finding one on my street's proving somewhat challenging
  8. I know Otta, it's sad to see, but hopefully he'll be ok. Will keep an eye on it, see what occurs. I suppose this shows how people feel when something is that bit better, like you say about the chips in the box. I love to see considerate individuals really trying hard, the difficult bit is getting that message across to people Even harder, is getting that message across and making it viable into your business Good luck to Ash, hopefully their "good food, with love" ethos and a generous footfall, will give them the customers in abundance

  10. The oddest pub I went to was "The Brazen Head" aka The Granite, in Glasgow You sat down at the tables and the bar man would come to you, no standing up or glasses above mouth high, or something like that The band played behind a chicken wire fence I remember the barman pulling out a big see through bag, full of e's and wraps etc. "Any orders?" A few hours later plenty of pulling Picasso faces, then 2 suited guys no younger than 70, set to at each other Best 4 days on my own in a City ever

I started the thread about the EDD because > it's become iconic and is in a prime retail spot. > Totally different to an old pizza shop. No one > cares! > > Louisa. Disagree Seeing as the old Pizza shop is at the now livelier "foodie" part of the lane, people do care and very much so Specially as the Picture House, when it opens, will focus food further at that end of the Lane too I know traders are making plans to change their offer accordingly, to make the best of the anticipated trade uplift So "what's happening to empty shop" is very relevant, it's prime retail space
  12. I pull over to widen the gap for the truck coming the other way The car behind pulls around me, to try and go through "the gap" The car stops the truck getting through and causes a jam, then other cars pile in behind the lead car All hell breaks loose and nobody's going nowhere
  13. Just heard my other half say to our Teen-boy "It's called a cat lick" "A cat lick, really?" he replies "Yes, a cat lick" she says "Don't you mean a Cow lick" he enquires "Yes that's it, A COW LICK"

So there you go Ah, bless her. Not an unusual reaction when someone sees a house in the estate agents window, just like the one they lived in, but now with a massively inflated price tag. It hurts somewhat Still, there you go
  15. No Jez SJB&W I do like Kebas, I really like Souvlaki. I like the real bread that puffs up and homemade thick sheep milk yoghurt dressing. Fresh crispy salad. Proper stuff cooked over charcoal I'm willing to pay decent money, on a regular basis for that kind. BUT gas turned minced lamb loaf type generic bad-holiday "doner" just kills my soul. Synthetic kebab cash & carry "garlic/chilli sauce Boss?" kills my body even further. Add to that Paper hygiene hats and it's all over for me There's a place in Soho, 158 Bateman Street. It does the real Greek ones, right down to the bread. It's a near religious experience eating one of those, even the paper they wrap it in makes me weep as I tear it down and around Is this snobbery? I don't think so *wipes a tear*
  16. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To be fair, they do eat a lot of fried rice in > hong kong.. Indeed, but did we need to send those two numpties all that way, to hear them say "This is the bit where you put the omelette in" Like that needs two Hairy Bikers and a camera crew and..... And actually, i'm just jealous that those bods get to do that stuff and get it commissioned again and again Also, I suspect *Bob* probably wrote the "feeme Toon"
  17. See here, this is what I meant Stick this up, around and down your pipes http://www.tooled-up.com/product/monument-3344k-drain-auger-25ft-x-1-4/6658/

  19. If the NO vote prevails and we stay wed to each other, then what will become on Alex Salmond. Would he still lead his party with authority, or would he diminish into the shadows (eventually) I'm pro the vote, but for the Union Ireland will one day end up as 'one' I feel, some way off tho
  20. Good luck to anyone opening a new venture Tell us your story Ash. How did you get inspired to open a Kebab shop. My friend is soon to open a Mangal, he was until recently a Head Chef at a very established British restaurant (yes, that one) in Spitalfields. But his love of the Mangal and all that surrounds it, has made him make a bold move What will make your place special & will you be serving the regular "doner' style. The one that goes endlessly round and round?
