But jokes aside.....the key problem as I see it is the mechanism thatLabour has for electings it's leadership. They should make it a priority to revert back to MP's, rather than members, deciding on the leadership. This way there is at least some form of responsibility to the broader electorate, rather than to a niche cabal of members who exert a wholly un-representative influence over the party (as I think it's pretty hard to argue against after the events of last week).

No mate. That would be you insulting them. I was confused by the lack of self-reflection. You decided to label people as stupid.

les-and-Boo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you don't vote, you are basically agreeing with > the manifesto of each party. Thats a very strange statement. I made the conscious decision not to vote. Not through laziness, but purposefully. I'm very engaged in the political process, and I value my vote. And I didn't want to use it to endorse anyone that I had the choice of voting for. If I have the right to choose who to vote for, then choosing 'none of the above' is a right I also have.

Amongst the cat's wife's labour loving friends, there's no self reflection this morning. Just moaning that the 'right wing media' did a hatchet job on corbyn and labour. And all Britain are stupid and got 'hoodwinked' apparently. Not one ounce of self reflection. I don't get it

So...I'll add some perspectives then from the 'new world'....:) I grew up in Brisbane, and never really thought racism was a feature of my life..... But looking back with the more balanced eyes of an adult.... some of the bullying and teasing of kids in early years of high school was pretty deplorable to be honest. Not so much a black versus white thing, but white versus south east Asian (and I lament whatever role I played as an idiot early teen) Not long after uni, I moved to outback Queensland for work. To a town that according to locals had a 'black problem'. I also vividly recall some friends from Brisbane coming to town for a few days to visit and saying 'I never really disliked aborigines until I came to a country town'..... Despite all this evidence as a young Cat I would have sworn black and blue that Australia is not a racist country. Now, having living on these grey and drizzly shores for nearly 15 years, (and with the benefit of maturity) I see that the tyranny of distance for Australia makes it something of a bubble, where things are judged not by broad international standards, but by relative standards within the bubble, which can be problematic. All this said, I hope that my recollections are of an Australia that used to exist, and things have moved on considerably in my time away.....

A very serious issue Malumbu. And any of these idiots in New Zealand or anywhere else should be named and shamed. But aren't you falling into similar trap by suggesting 'any kiwis' apologise for a few dickheads? (Yes - I know 'new Zealander' is not a race...but you get the picture I'm sure)

So a victory for the Guardian and Twitter...what's has he done?apart from be friends with a criminal?

While I'm all for initiates to improve inequality, and am personally happy to pay a modest amount more intax to improve welfare and public services. This type of talk from the labour party is absolutely terrifying.... https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/19/labour-rewrite-rules-economy-john-mcdonnell Many on this board curse brexit for what will destroy this country's economy, well with policies like these labour will make brexit seem like a small blip in the road.... Watch as private investment, foreign direct investment and business confidence evaporate as the 'shareholder economy' is dismantled.... Oh by the way John McDonnell, just about every one of those workers you want to support is also a shareholder in most of the leading UK listed companies. Destroy the shareholder economy, and destroy the pension pots of the workers as well.....

Man, what shitty situation we find ourselves in, in the UK. The only realistic two choices for our next Prime Minister are a rock (our lying, self-serving, flexibly principled current prime minister) and a hard place (a well meaning, highly principled fellow, who's laudable desire to make society more equitable is over shadowed by the fact that his economic policies will have the unintended consequence of completely destroying the UK economy). I'm open to ideas here? I suppose I always have my Aussie passport as a backup....:)

Okay....this isn't trolling, and I know this is OTT....But it did make me laugh..... To be clear, I do not advocate a lot (most) of things he says...like the immigration thing..... I just didn't have AC at school in oz in the 80s.... -
I reckon Olley's in Herne Hill do the best fish. But as many on here will tell you, it doesn't come cheap....

Don't be ridiculous, everyone knows that Goji berries don't go with smashed avocado. Next thing you'll be suggesting I pair my quinoa with my oat-milk macchiato.....
