  1. Loooks like a home vigil as no one seems around-happy to try again for a future game. TS
  2. Do any Hammers fans ever meet up to watch a game live in Sky in a local pub? Could watch the game tomorrow at home but fancy something more convival with a couple of fellow sufferers!? Sam
  3. Bobby Moore Kevin Keegan (when he was in Superstars) Richie McCaw Henry Cooper The Ever-Swindell twins (Rowing)..two for the price of one I guess!
  4. Hope to make the next one as out of town for what would have been my debut...sounds like an excellent evening out. Good to see the Hammers got a mention. Back to MOTD....quiet night in our household!
  5. Sounds fun...what is the usual turnout-10/20 50plus?. Any other 'first timers' thinking of going?
  6. Thanks for the advice-will spend a few relaxed Sundays checking them out....
  7. Having been away in NZ for a few years where the concept of a Sunday lunchtime drink (as opposed to brunch/lunch) doesn't really exist, set off around Dulwich/borders looking for said pint. Since we've been away the smoking ban and rise of the gastro pub have certainly seen more families out and about. I have read the many (very interesting threads on pubs) so decided to take a drive. We wanted to check out the Gowlett and Hoopers (both highly recommended from many threads). It was about 1.30 and the Sunday before most return to work so I thought some pubs would be quiet-both were very empty so we didn't stop (but will come back perhap)s in an evening). LLane was very busy traffic wise so it was a flip up between the Dog and The Dulwich Woodhouse. Chose the latter-every table full of families/children dining so left pronto (no room)-carried on to the BridgeHouse(Penge)-again the same thing-lots of toddlers/babies etc. We did squeeze into a corner for one drink between the high chairs. While not expecting a small country style pub (and knowing food and families are where a gastro pub makes its money) where you step over a couple of labs, have a real ale in a buzzy atmosphere and mingle with like minded locals, any good recommendations for our next Sunday venture in Dulwich?
  8. Hi everyone I am desperate to get away for 4/5 days in the sun in early January. Don't want to spend a fortune and their seem to be a few deals on to ther Middle East. Anyone who has been to Dubai, Oman (Muscat) or Qatar could you please let me know how you got on and any recommendations of places or hotels. I don't need watersports etc or child-friendly place just somewhere peaceful to chill out with perhaps an odd excursion in to desert and visit to some of the must see sights. Thankds as ever for your comments TS
  9. Some great advice so far thanks-do these touch phones scratch easily in wallets/bags etc? Any advantage of a stylus phone? Sam
  10. Having got back from NZ now need a mobile phone-dozens to choose from. Will get a contract so a free phone. retiring my battered old one and want a decent new one. Anyone got a touch phone either Samsung Tocco, Nokia N96 or even the Apple I touch-what are they like?-stylus no stylus etc. Really need it for phone and text but may be tempted by internet surfing etc, decent photos. Any brilliant phones that are not touch I should look at. Comments please. If I am going to have to have it for 18 months might as well get the right one... Thanks as ever
  11. Ended up in Covent Garden-couldn't find anywhere in ED although I am sure there must be somewhere.Come on the ABs!
  12. Does anyone know any pubs in ED or closeby that will show the Australia v NZ Rugby Union game on Saturday? I think it is the usual 8.30am start so will probably only be a dedicated 'rugby pub' Many thanks
  13. Thanks to the replies so far..anyone else have any comments on SH Station? Telegramsam
  14. Thanks for your honest appraisal of life in Upper Sydenham D&C TS
  15. Still not sorted as to exactly where I will move back to...3 weeks to decide! If I end up living closer to Sydenham Hill Station any comments on the station at commuter time (how busy?) and returning at night (relative safety etc). I do know the station quite well from years ago and it is a little unusual as it is so quiet with the estate one side and College Rd the other, and doesn't deposit you into a residential area directly like ED and FH. Be interested to hear comments especially from those who use/have used it regularly.. Thanks in advance TS
  16. Hi Dazed As someone moving back soon, may I ask what you didn't like about Upper Sydenham or why is wasn't for you? Be interested to know! Telegramsam
  17. Thanks to all for the comments about the flats and for those who took time to respond. Certainly a possibility and I look forward to a return to Dulwich soon... Telegramsam
  18. Having grown up around Dulwich, I am moving back after several years overseas. Have to look at property over websites and cannot view them in advance. Anyone have any comments on Highwood Close flats-(nb. location, noise, security etc) off Lordship Lane. Anyone bought or rented there? Obviously newish with mod cons etc and convenient for transport. Are they where the old TA Depot was? Thanks for any comments
