  1. Alright - keep yer boots on. More than I can count - it took me a long time to learn (about 14 months) as I wasn't particularly confident, so having someone that understood this and persisted was much appreciated.
  2. I'm both a cyclist (although mostly former as I don't commute to work by bike these days as I now work from home) and a recently passed driver. I see it from a whole other perspective now and whilst I'm very careful around cyclists, agree that they should, especially on these dark nights, be as visible as possible. I suppose this doesn't add much to the original post, but I suppose it is a little bit of a case of developing a mutual understanding for one another. Now the nights are drawing in pedestrians crossing the road in random places are much harder to see.
  3. I've been meaning to post this since I passed my test but work and life have got in the way a bit. I'd like to recommend my driving instructor - Diana at DBee School of Motoring http://www.dbee.co.uk - it took me a while to learn, and I was pretty nervous, being older (well, 29) when I started learning but Diana was really patient throughout, despite the tears and self doubt and teaches in a very intuitive manner - she also likes a challenge (apparently!) Anyway, I finally passed at the end of September, and have been happily driving around ever since.
  4. We're actually planning a move to Brighton... We can buy a nice house for what our flat is worth - that said... I'd consider Leytonstone if out East, it's central enough and on bus routes to town, more central that Forest Gate and certain properties still really good value. Catford - really grim town centre but some nice Victorian housing stock and still close to ED. Stuff happening, reckon it might be Peckham in 3 years. Hither Green - lots of my clients live there, seems nice, full of learner drivers but definite zone 3 prices.
  5. I hope not. I get my cat food from there, and it convenient for all kinds of bits and bobs. I actually quite like the owners, helpful when you need them. I haven't heard anything - guess they are retiring?
  6. We had an olive tree, and a not particularly large one, stolen from our doorstep a year or so back. It is definitely a bit odd, ours was also a gift.
  7. How has a post where the OP stated simply how much they enjoyed their dinner turned into a health advisory? I presume we are all adults and capable of making our own dietary decisions. I also happen to be very fond of cheese on toast.

  9. If you can use excel to analyse info you've got all the tools you need to make some graphs, there's even a graph wizard built in that could turn that data into a graph instantly. You'd be surprised what you can learn from the net, so google what you want to do and i can assure you it'll be super quick and you won't have to give any wine out. Also, I was an art student, so if can learn this, you definitely can.
  10. Hi Alice, I tried to message you but your inbox is full.
  11. We have a velvet upholstered armchair that needs a little spruce up since our cars are as fond of it as we are. Any recommendations for local companies that would do this?
  12. Anyone else effected by the St Aidan's Road power outage? This is the third time in a few months. I work from home so if it's not back on quickly I'll have lost a days work. Reported but I guess I just wanted to moan!
  13. Thank for all your responses - just run the speed test and I have: download speed of 9.36 mbps upload speed of 0.77mbps This is a bit crap isn't it? The computer in question is connected by cable to the router, and is the sole computer except for the usual iPhones/iPads etc which tend to be used at different times. Might have to look into BT...
  14. Firstly is there truly such a thing? I work from home and currently use Sky broadband, but I do a lot of uploading of work and could do with the fastest connection I can have. Can anyone recommend a provider who actually achieves fast broadband in this area?
  15. We use Advocate - it also deals with worm and ticks etc
  16. i thought this - when it first changed hands about a year ago we went an had an excellent Sunday lunch, we went back a few weeks ago as we had a power cut early evening and couldn't cook. I also had a veggie burger and it was really average for the price. I know, how good can a veggie burger be really, but this was pretty poor.
  17. Popped in for the first time last week and it was great - concise but good range and the staff were friendly, and I liked the shop dogs too.

Big commercial for well known brand vs small, independent film. Of course you got paid.
  19. Someone once stole an olive tree from out the front of ours, just yanked out of the pot. Really annoying as we're given it as a gift.
  20. Its quite nice but the council chamber is a teeny bit tattier than others like Islington. The lobbies etc are lovely, and much nicer than you would expect it being on that crazy junction.

  22. Tavern Snacks - now that is a proper salt and vinegar crisp - I've only ever seen them at The Blue Posts on Berwick Street. I do think it's sad - gentrification is a big and complex debate, and I'm definitely a latter day ED emigre drawn to some extent by nice shops and places to drink but I also like an area to be authentic and there is also definitely a case that despite all of these 'independent' cafes and provisions shops London's high streets in certain areas are all beginning to look the same. I only went in there once with a Irish friend, but otherwise I'd agree that the shutters always made it look closed. It is still a shame to loose a local business.
  23. .org - the best/easiest thing to do is to set up your hosting and buy your domain name, then to install Wordpress into it. Bluehost makes it really easy but I can't speak for other hosting companies as I haven't used them - I guess most consumer ones will be user friendly. If you want Wordpress.com it doesn't need to be self hosted and should be as easy as just signing up - but this option isn't as flexible with plugins.
