  1. SE London 20/40 litre bags of compost - if anyone has managed to lick up any on Fri or Sat please shout with the location. LIDL Peckham out of stock and I need to get eight bags for my garden project. Have sack barrow so distance not really an issue. THANKS!
  2. Let us all celebrate the birth of Ava Florence Whitfield Born 31st March at Kings College Hospital. Pictured here with brother Archie, Mum Tory and Dad Ben. On 8th April I was walking up Howbury Rd Nunhead and this sight of this lovely family with new born child just stopped me in my tracks. Reminded me that despite the tragic losses, there are these wonderful uplifting glimmers of hope, what could be more heartwarming than a new born child. Other people were stopping by at a safe distance, we were all smiling and congratulating the proud parents. Despite the much reduced unit, the fabulous NHS team were able to safely deliver the baby. I mentioned to the couple that it would be fab if I could take a couple of photos with the intention of sharing via Facebook, as I thought these images and the story would help uplift spirits. They were delighted to accept my suggestion and want you all to know that the middle name Florence was chosen as recognition of all the wonderful NHS staff in the UK. If you feel heartwarmed by this post please do share with your friends. Extending big virtual hugs to everyone reading this post - tonight I hope we will all be clapping, banging saucepan lids, dancing on the street ( at a safe distance! ) not just for our NHS, Let's not forget all care home staff working right some with very makeshift ppe, social workers, teachers, pharmacies, the NHS volunteers & other community volunteers, transport staff, delivery staff, food shop and take-away staff, suppliers, street cleaners, council workers the list goes on...!

  15. Maybe this could help: Well done Becky Bess in Cornwall, Brilliant Simple Positive, your idea seems to be spreading like a virus, let's hope it becomes an International Pandemic! www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/cornwall-womans-novel-way-helping-3947215
  16. If this becomes a reality I do hope we will all do our bit and offer to get shopping for our elderly neighbours. "The Health Secretary has said elderly people will be asked to self-isolate for as long as four months in the battle against coronavirus. Over 70s will be asked to stay at home, without guests or visitors while the virus is expected to infect as much as 80 per cent of the UK population over the coming months. Regular doorstep deliveries of groceries, medicine and other supplies will be sent to the elderly during the quarantine expected "in the coming weeks". https://www.mylondon.news/news/health/london-coronavirus-governments-full-plans-17927526 While the world continues to come up with plans to tackle the outbreak, the UK government's new plans could see schools and pubs close, the army called in to stock supermarket shelves and all over-70s may have to self-isolate for four months. These are the plans that could be put in place: Self-isolation for the elderly People in Britain aged over 70 are likely to be instructed to stay in strict isolation as part of a planned response to Covid-19. A government source has told ITV's political editor Robert Peston that the policy could be announced within the next five to 20 days and would last four months, reports PlymouthLive. The source said chief medical officer Chris Whitty and the chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance are, however, waiting for the best time to roll out measures that will obstruct people's lives. The government is concerned that some older people could die at home from neglect after they are quarantined, so want to start the self-isolation as late as possible.
  17. Well done to Mike Coupe, that there has been and no doubt ( despite such re-assurance by the Chief Exec ), and continue to be panic buying by a sizeable part of the UK population is a sad reflection of 'it's every man for himself.' Message from Sainsbury's Chief Executive Mike Coupe 'Which brings me onto a request. Please think before you buy and only buy what you and your family need. If we all do this then we can make sure we have enough for everyone. And please help elderly and vulnerable friends, family and neighbours with their shopping if you can.' Message in full: Dear Michael, You will have seen that, due to the ongoing uncertainty around the full impact of Coronavirus, supermarkets have been much busier than usual and customers are choosing to stock up. I wanted to personally reassure you that we have more food and other essential items coming to us from manufacturers and into our warehouses and distribution centres. If we all shop just for the food that we and our families need, there will be enough for everyone. I also wanted to let you know that at Sainsbury's, we are working really hard to ensure this remains the case. Over the past two weeks we have: - Ordered more stock of essential items from our suppliers - Put more capacity into our warehouses and - Set limits on a small number of items, including some cleaning products, soap and pain relief. This is a precautionary measure - if everyone shops normally, there will be enough for everyone. There are gaps on shelves because of increased demand, but we have new stock arriving regularly and we're doing our best to keep shelves stocked. Our store colleagues are working tirelessly and doing the best job they can. Which brings me onto a request. Please think before you buy and only buy what you and your family need. If we all do this then we can make sure we have enough for everyone. And please help elderly and vulnerable friends, family and neighbours with their shopping if you can. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to thank our colleagues who are all working incredibly hard to ensure we can continue to serve our customers well. Best wishes Mike
  18. Psara thanks for sharing this link - if you sort by deaths gives a useful perspective. The southern hemisphere is in the main quite un-affected, the virus does not warm to hot climates, the re-timing of the London Marathon to October is significant and positive. I do hope other big events, festivals for example The Telegraph Hill Festival will also re-schedule. Our summer should rapidly diminish the threat and hopefully we can all then move on to the next letter in the alphabet. This is useful ref World Map: www.thesun.co.uk/news/11036721/coronavirus-map-far-spread/ Previously shared here: www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30566-3 metro.co.uk/2020/03/11/telegraph-journalist-says-coronavirus-cull-elderly-benefit-economy-12383907/ Psara Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you want updated figures go to > https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ > > It updates each time a nation declares its > figures. > > Italy death rate, death vs recovered is over 40%. > UK has had 20 people recovered and 11 deaths... > > These percentages will go down as more people > recover but still higher than 1% that has been > floating around.
  19. Friday 13th Announcement - I do feel it for everyone that has put so much effort into organising this annual festival and dashed hopes of everyone taking part.
  20. Well I certainly got a debate going! Question have asked a number of people - How come Italy copped it first big time in Europe - then fired off the infection all over Europe. One theory is they are a very touchy feely population.
  21. Take a chill pill - 17,000 average a year die from the flu here in the UK - why not ask the postman to stop delivering your mail? Dan Calladine via twitter well done for the reality check. Since 2014 flu related deaths have been 17,000 annually - CORONA has been so blown out of all proportion - Media frenzy desperate for more 'copy' - Some are getting extremely RICH off the back of this overblown virus. So we have advanced from B to C which hopefully will all be over in 3.5 months not Years! Ah so then we go to D! My dear nephew living with his girlfriend in Dongguan China, in the RED zone shares a very interesting perspective. https://www.itv.com/news/2020-02-06/how-does-the-wuhan-coronavirus-compare-to-seasonal-flu/
