  1. I think it's a great adventure, but no way I'd do it with children that age, because I know I'd never cope with being cooped up with them for days on the boat, and also personally I don't think it's very fair on them. When older they'd get more out of it, cope with the days at sea better and ultimately remember it much more in future years. As for the fish, I can't believe how calm they are, but maybe that's just their way of coping. Sooooo scary.
  2. PUSH studios, Blackwater Street I think it is?
  3. Anyone watching tonight? No way you'd get me out there on a boat with my 2 children! Just watching is making me feel sick. M
  4. New uniform is compulsory as of start of this term, however they are also allowing people to use the old uniform until it is outgrown, and don't seem to be clamping down hard (yet) on those not in uniform. You can order the tops through the school office, anything else you need you would get anywhere - Sainsbury's, Tescos, M&S etc. I'd say about 70-80% now seem to be in uniform, though I admit I mostly see the infants and I suspect there is more resistance in the higher years. The children seem to like the variety of colours, although they are in uniform they get some choice in what they are wearing each day, but not so much we end up having arguments (maybe this is just a girl thing, but we did have some humdingers over party dresses etc. in the early days). For me it really does make life a lot easier, I can't deny it. Re the new Head - so far so good - she has been very prominent in the playground each morning and evening, and they are introducing 'parentmail' very soon, so we can opt to receive newsletters etc. that way rather than on paper (in the past they were not always guaranteed to actually get to you). We've really only just 'got going' this year so can't say much more than that yet, but fingers crossed, the 'vibes' feel good....

Certainly I > always mention it to my classes when I talk about > induction dates, also relevant is if you have a > family history of significantly late/early babies > (i.e. your Mum, Granny, sister(s), cousins, > auntie's etc.etc.). Oh, that's interesting. I've mentioned it to the odd midwife and they've never said anything, though agreed it made sense. Having said that, I still wouldn't want to bet too much money on when I reckon any said baby is likely to arrive!
  6. DD1 was 7 days late DD2 was 8 days late I have a theory that your monthly cycle can be an indication of your likely length of pregancy - i.e. I have a long cycle - 31 to 32 days and therefore I think for me a 'normal' full term pregnancy is 41 weeks.....but no doubt others on here could disprove this! Good luck! Molly
  7. Also....no rules about colour of tights!
  8. Hiya, Black skirts/trousers are also OK (I prefer black to grey personally). and also dark jeans. Also they are considering gingham dresses for girls in summer, but this hasn't been approved yet. No rules about footwear. PE kit is white t-shirts and black or grey shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms plus trainers. It is all very relaxed to be honest. Molly
  9. One to add Little Acorns Toddler Group 10-11.30am Tuesdays Church at the top of One Tree Hill As far as I can see it is FOC (saw a poster, haven't been myself)
  10. Hi all, For anyone interested in using cloth nappies; My monthly cloth nappy advice session is this Friday, 17th September between 10 & 11.00am at the Ivydale Childrens Centre, entrance on Bellwood Road in Nunhead. No need to book, just turn up on the day (please do your best to arrive on time as this makes the sessions better for everyone). Also, please note: Future sessions will be on the 3rd WEDNESDAY of the month, still from 10-11am. e.g. 20th October will be the next one. This is a great session to come along to if you are interested in using cloth nappies, or needing help with a system you already have, advice on accessories etc. - please feel free to come along and I will do my best to help you. I also have leaflets about the Real Nappies for London Voucher Scheme which you can take away with you. Items you are interested in can be purchased on line from The Nappy Lady, and you can use your ?40 RNFL voucher towards any purchases. I also have two hire kits available, one is a full set of newborn nappies (birth to 15lbs), wraps, bucket, mesh etc. the other consists of Size 1 nappies and wraps, bucket, mesh etc. which fit from 10-18lbs very nicely (generally 6 weeks to 6 months old). Both are available to hire for a very small charge of ?10 for 2 weeks, plus a refundable deposit of ?50. These kits offer a fantastic chance to try using cloth nappies without any real outlay (as you'd spend more than ?10 on disposables in 2 weeks). Feel free to contact me if you'd like to borrow either kit. Best wishes, Molly 07977 130318
  11. I went to bed at 12 and my eldest came in at 4am to say she'd been sick in bed (caught bug going around school). Eugh, not what you need to deal with on 4 hours sleep and half a bottle of red wine! Poor girl, she was very brave about it though.
  12. I agree - didn't have one myself due to lack of space, but a friend had one and I loved it, would definitely have had one if I'd had room for it. I tried out a few at one of The Baby Shows and did find some much more comfortable & supportive than others - and actually one of the cheaper ones (?150 or so?) was the best for me, so if you have the time/luxury of shopping around I would. I think you use them long past breastfeeding, and for rocking and cuddling poorly children, reading books at bed time etc. Molly
  13. Had a slightly sore head this morning, but well worth it for a lovely night out.
  14. Yes - the do it as soon as the escapee changes start, before the realise what fun it is/how much it winds Mummy up! Also it breaks the habit before they get too strong. Hope it saves some stress this time around at least! Xx
  15. charlie777, I used to have EXACTLY the same problem with the front wheels, I think it is just very counter intuitive, so not just you.
  16. Poppy & Ruth - you might like to try this technique to get you through the difficult nappy changing stage; To change nappy; Sit on floor on your bottom with legs out in front of you, in a V shape. Place baby at right angles to you, with your thigh over his chest to pin him down, and his feet in the direction of your other leg. You can then change him quickly and easily, with both hands free, without him moving, and even if he protests it will all be a lot quicker and less frustrating/traumatic than the general baby rolling and crawling away, poo everywhere, stressed out red sweaty Mummy thing.... Usually you only have to do it for a week or two and they stop playing up about nappy changes anyway because they realise you've got them beaten! One of the best tips I've ever been given, handed down through generations of Nappy Ladies! I've posted this before, and had many endorsements from other parents who (sometimes cynically) try it out with great success! Molly
  17. In my experience someone always offers, even if the person you initially asked refused to get up. I have offered my seat before & had a pregnant lady decline it, but when I insisted she did then take it, I think sometimes we are way too polite. Always ask ladies, or accept the offers when you get them. You are carrying a precious load.
  18. Hey Yorkie that's great, maybe we could share a cab back? Pm me. X
  19. Can't cope with this weather, don't know what to wear, let alone what to dress children in. Plus, need to put my summer stuff away and get winter stuff out, have mountain of stuff the littlest one has outgrown that I really need to go through and dispose of, but also the mountain of stuff I've just got out of the loft that she may now fit into, but need to sort and hang up, oh and the pile of stuff her big sister has outgrown which I need to sort and put away for when little one can wear it....wwwwaaaaaahhhhhhh........it's all too much. I need heeeelllllpppp........ Sorry, I know I shouldn't be complaining about this, just having a moment. Chocolate may possible be the cure....
  20. I'll go wherever I'm told LOL!!!! Just amazed to be going out :)-D
  21. Thanks damzel & dollydaydream, I think that will really help. x
  22. Just found this one on an old thread..... Everybody Poos Posted by: hanstands August 11, 09:33PM http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=everybody+poos [www.amazon.co.uk] Great book for all those potty training or a good one to buy to read babies from as early as possible to get them 'in the swing of things' so to speak...the most fun and useful book we had on the subject--My boy still really loves it even though he's trained now...'tis funny for the adults too.
  23. Yep, DH is out tomorrow night, in return for babysitting duty Friday so I'll definitely coming this time too :))
  24. Different days for different things Kes, let me try to hunt out the new schedule for you. It's over in Nunhead though, not ED.
  25. Am I imagining it or did someone post about a good book for toilet phobias? My poor friend has a 2 year old who is struggling & any helpful book suggestions would be good. She's 'holding back' for up to 24 hours & getting very distraught to the extent that she does nothing but pace up & down crying til she finally goes.
