  1. We had Virgin broadband for 18 months because one housemate who was already here when we moved in had transferred it over from his previous property... needless to say it was total tripe for nearly the whole period. Kept cutting out every 10 minutes or so, and wireless throughout the house was very weak.

We installed Sky fibre optic broadband after seeing it was half price on the telly last month. We've had it since 1st Nov and it's been perfect!! strong connections and fast speeds. I really do recommend it - after suffering for 18 months I thought we'd be happy with any old crap but Sky has blown us away!

  2. They will add a train to the timetable if there is a business case. The DfT's times are just the minimum they have to provide (as in the first train must be by this time, or the last train must be at least this late).

Therefore, if enough people say they will use the service for it to be viable they will consider it. They do have to make sure it doesn't clash with other empty rolling stock/train crew movements or maintenance possessions though.

  3. I'm looking too!

    Jags - I can't afford the membership

Crofton Leisure Centre has closed down (according to SE23 forum)

Harris Girl's School only has the badminton clubs, not private booking opportunities

The only one I can think of is Bacon's College Sports Centre in Rotherhithe - I've emailed them.

Can anyone think of any more?

  4. It might just be the person on duty in the shop didn't understand themselves so told you the wrong thing. I was once asked up north for ID to buy asprin (you have to be 12) when I am blatantly in my mid-twenties.

I bought 3 easter eggs for the price of one the other day in London Bridge with exactly the same phrase on the shelf.

So go back there and demand your extra Ragu!!

  5. When I was a teenager I approached someone for change of a ?2 coin because the ticket machine (at that time) didn't accept it and it was all I had! The woman who I approached (Yummy Mummy) cut her eye at me and said 'sorry' in a way you would say to a homeless person if you were in a hurry before even letting me finish my sentence!

And maybe the guy had already exhausted his options? Just because someone is forthright and confident enough to ask the general public for help, doesn't mean they're a con artist!

I wasn't asking for any money with my ?2 scenario, just change of it, but if I was in a pickle and with no other option I would at least ask someone. I gave ?4 to a Spanish woman at Euston recently as she was on the verge of crying because she needed to get to Baker Street and she had no money left?! As I had the spare cash (that time, and quite rare too!) I gave it to her. Better safe than sorry if she had to get her money another way..

  6. So what happens in the present day if say, one of your parents die, and neither they nor you have any savings to pay for a ?3000 funeral?

Do you just have to get a bank loan? What if you haven't got a good credit score/are unemployed and therefore the bank doesn't want to lend?

  7. I used to get it to school when it still went to Surrey Quays. It gets badly delayed at the point of going through Peckham, and I think there is a bus diversion off Rye Lane at the moment so that may be why. The P13 and the P12 generally take longer too because they venture down residential/back roads where they can get stuck if there's any meeting and clearance.

In the end I gave up with buses and got the train to school. Even if they do get delayed it's usually not for more than ten minutes or so, and they're not much more expensive than the bus. Plus you know when it's coming thanks to the information boards.

  8. Yeah maybe will look to live with people, although I've done that for 5 years now so I kinda wanna be alone!

No, wasn't considering a studio flat either because I've lived in one before and it just means your clothes smell of your cooking haha

Won't be looking for anywhere til at least October anyway, hopefully my friend will get her place at Goldsmiths and I can persuade her to live down south. And that there will still be abundance of adverts on the residential thread :-)

  9. I'm 23, and have lived in East Dulwich all of my life - apart from being at uni in the Midlands for half the year for about 4 years - I'm now facing the realisation that I may not be able to live here much longer; my parents are moving out to Faversham, and other family has already moved away. I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to rent a place, especially as my non-Londoner friends all want to live in North London.

I reckon I really will miss ED, as I think it's one of the only places in London that holds some kind of tradition; most of the houses and streets surrounding Lordship Lane are old and architecturally beautiful - you don't get that the further you walk into Peckham. I'll also greatly miss the walk from Goose Green to Dulwich Park, as I agree the best thing about the area is its greenery and sympathy with nature, and whether you realise it or not, I'm sure subliminally this is what is able to calm you down after a bad week!

All the Yummy Mummies I see on the streets are truly lucky that they've found themselves in such a gem of an area, and hopefully their children will grow to love it as much as I do.
