  1. Follow-on milk contains iron in greater quantities, which can bung up some children.

Follow-on milk really only exists to create a product which companies can promote, as it's illegal to advertise or promote first milk. You can earn loyalty card points on follow-on and it can be included in discounts and promotions, which again are illegal for first milk. These might be reasons for using it but there's no real nutritional advantage, and you can give first milk happily to the age of 1, when you can switch to cows' milk.

  2. Very unofficial advice, and I'm not at all a medical professional - but pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient in Sudafed, has an impact on supply, and might help to make you more comfortable. See a doctor sharpish if you have any fever or if the breast becomes hot to touch, or red. Mastitis can come on very quickly.
  3. You could also try a Nuk soft spout cup - the Lloyds chemist on north cross road sells the spouts and they would fit your existing Nuk bottles. Don't know if you can buy the handles separately but this element of control made a big difference for my bottle refuser.
  4. I had Lanes care while I was registered at DMC Chadwick Road and as PP have explained being within the DMC network doesn't confer any advantage - I just went on the ordinary waiting list. I rang as soon as I had a positive test and I was offered a place just before my booking-in appointment at Kings. I was very lucky -y midwife told me that for the months before and after my daughter's birth they were full up and then some with exclusively DMC CPR women.

The care was exceptional; I only wish it was the normal model of midwifery care in the UK. Good luck. It's not very pleasant waiting for a place.

  5. The best thing for a hip carry IMO is a ring sling. They look faffy but they are really quick once you get the knack. As your baby is older I'd suggest one that issue from woven wrap fabric as they'll be most supportive.

I think that Emily at the South London sling library will do postal hires. If not then It's A Sling Thing are very good.

  6. My husband and I are both teachers and it has been my experience that private nurseries don't advertise term-time only care but that some are willing to come to an agreement if you ask. Our daughter does two days a week at nursery during the holidays, which we find invaluable when doing the inevitable school work during holidays, and which we feel helps with her continuity of care.
