  1. Firstly congrats on your son getting into Trinity. I've heard its a very good school and a tough entrance exam. I know a boy who started Year 6 last year at Trinity and lives in the area. He's done a similar commute by himself since he started. If the Japanese can send their 3yo's on shopping runs alone, then your boy should be able to catch a bus and a train. Get him a phone, either a smart one if you want to track him or a Nokia brick so he can make calls if there's a problem. After a week or two, he'll be fine with it. Best of luck.
  2. @CPR Dave, approach Sainsburys from Bellenden, Avondale and Pytechley Roads and you'll miss the camera. When you depart Sainsburys, go up the hill and back the same way.
  3. This could be old news for those people with vehicles that don't meet ULEZ standards, but I hadn't realised this until last week. FYI: when you are caught by a ULEZ camera, the TFL website publishes the date/time of the occurrence and the location of the camera plus a photo. With that, you can obviously map your routes accordingly. Eg. I hadn't realised there was a camera on Lyndhurst/Holly as micromacromonkey mentions above until I saw the TFL photo.
  4. No Sue, I don't think it would pick you up in that direction AFAIK. The camera is outside the Grove Tavern pub and it catches you as you drive into ED from the Forest Hill/South Circular direction. Camera here: https://goo.gl/maps/WTj5KtXeX2JthDZB8, above the volvo.

@alex_b, 7 days has been my experience so far.

    ulez zone ??

@Scrummymummy, you are correct. The bill came in today for the Essex trip, 7 days after the journey. Driving around ED/PR remains uncharged though.

    ulez zone ??

Yes, signed up to autopay from day one of the ulez.

@akc74, you can drive around ED/PR at the moment without incurring a charge. TFL don't seem to use speed or bus lane cameras to police the ULEZ. I know one person who drove from Essex to London via the A12, crossed the Rotherhithe tunnel and arrived in ED without incurring a charge either.
  9. You can't teach a 2yo to swim. As the last poster suggested, it's time in the water that's important. Take your child to Forest Hill or Beckenham Spa every Sunday for the next few years. They have early morning sessions in the learner pools. Get your child used to the water if they aren't already - holding their breath, paddling about on their front and back which will build up core strength and co-ordination.. then get them into the deeper pool when they're 4yo and start lessons shortly after. I've seen so many kids at swimming clubs who have been in lessons since they were toddlers but at 10yo, they still can't swim properly because the only time they get in the pool is on holiday or during lessons (aka middle-class childcare).
  10. Great question! I've been waiting years to hear what others in the area think on this topic. FWIW I don't see how TFL can place a camera on every corner or street in the expanded zone hence why I haven't bothered selling my old diesel. If I do end up with a camera close-by, I shall pay the ?12.50 per day. It's cheaper for me than buying a new car.
  11. This happened to me over Xmas/New Years on Henslowe Road. No signs of forced entry into my 10+ year old car but glove box contents had been removed (tomtom) and CD's stolen. Who steals CD's in 2021?
  12. Try Forest Hill. It's newer, cleaner and they don't charge you 20p to use the lockers.
  13. Stay away from Harris. The classes are too small, they have the newest facilities, and they're the only local school with Ofsted Outstanding. My childs class has less than 20 kids in it and I want it to stay that way. Best on trying Goodrich or Heber with the rest of ED.
  14. FYI I spotted a man on a bicycle riding along Crystal Palace Rd (outside Everyone Active) yesterday peering into car windows. He was carrying a broken bike lock which I assume he uses to smash windows. I watched him ride into the carpark of the flats on the corner of East Dulwich Rd and Crystal Palace Rd. I reported it to the Police immediately. Be on the look out and don't leave valuables in your car.
  15. I had BT Infinity for 3.5 years, it went down once in that time. I work from home and it was very reliable and always fast, 75Mbps down, 18 Mbps up. I shifted to Vodafone a few months ago, my bill went from ?50 a month to ?28 and the speed is the same. The service is not the same, I've had two minor incidents in the 3 months but for the saving, I can live with it. If you don't need all the TV nonsense, I'd go Vodafone. Hope this helps.
