I don?t understand the fundamental purpose of this scheme. If the answer is to close the roads, what is the question? The roads are still open, albeit quieter, so the scheme doesn?t create any more space to walk on (was lack of space for pedestrians even a problem in the first place??). The impact of the displaced traffic is dramatic. I live on Oxonian Street and we?ve seen a huge increase in cars cutting through, frequently speeding in the wrong direction on the one way street. The dramatic increase in congestion and therefore pollution from the displaced traffic is absolutely evident and has made Lordship Lane unpleasant to walk along. I think I saw that they?re planning to keep this in place for up to 18 months! It?s truly shocking.

Trouble Trying To Buy A CPZ Parking Permit On-Line?
AlexandHelenC replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks. I found the relevant pages on the Southwark website. The site wouldn't allow me to register because my street isn't in a CPZ area yet so I tried calling the helpline which directs you back to the website. What an appalling, amateurish design! -
Trouble Trying To Buy A CPZ Parking Permit On-Line?

When is the CPZ Parking due to be implemented? We live on Oxonian Street which is in the impacted area, but haven't heard anything from the Council. -
Dog locked outside on East Dulwich Grove
AlexandHelenC replied to Jules-and-Boo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Is this a house near the junction with Elsie Road? If so, I hear this poor dog barking very frequently. It?s so cruel to leave it outside for hours (sometimes overnight)in this cold weather. -
Hi there, we live near goose green and take our dog there sometimes for a run around. It's definitely a good idea to take him off the lead early for the reasons you've mentioned - we weren't aware of that and it's been challenging to help him develop his 'recall' skills now that he's a bit older. Just one word of warning - some of the railings in goose green (on the North side) are spread wider than the rest so our miniature schnauzer once got through them. If you stick to the easterly end of the green (nearest the play park) you'll be well away from those gaps.

Dog day care in Forest Hill / East Dulwich area
AlexandHelenC replied to jamesandnat's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Hi James, We send our miniature schnauzer to Pat's Paws, which is based near Croydon. He seems to really enjoy it and they have a key to our house so can pick him up in the morning and drop him off towards the end of the afternoon. Pat is a qualified dog behaviourist and worked at Battersea Dogs Home for a long while, so we know that our pup is in very good hands. I'd really recommend it! Cheers, Alex -
I just called Thames Water to find out what's going on. Their internal system only provided the original dates for this project (i.e. the whole thing was due to be completed by July) so the lady I spoke to is going to ask someone from the project team to call me in the next 24 hours to provide an update. It didn't sound particularly promising - if I understood her correctly then it sounds like there's a lot more work to do before the project is complete so we may have to put up with this for quite a while longer. It sounded like they need to dig more holes further up towards Dunstan's Rd, which would presumably entail another few weeks or months of work. The whole thing has been pretty farcical; I think I recall receiving one letter notifying me that the project was about to start about 6 months ago but have received nothing since. I work from home a lot of the time and the endless din of the heavy duty equipment, generators, diggers, hammering and shouting has been extremely disruptive. I know a few neighbours are retired and others have young children who will probably be at home for a lot of the school holidays so the impact will be particularly severe for them - no one is going to want to sit in their garden or even open their windows while this is going on as it's bad enough with all of the windows closed. It's very frustrating that the residents in the area simply have to tolerate this. No communication, no compensation and seemingly no consequences for Thames Water when the work over-runs. I'll post an update when I receive more info from Thames Water.

Meet New People In East Dulwich
AlexandHelenC replied to Javz83's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
Life, the universe and everything? Somewhat embarrassingly I got ahead of myself with this suggestion and overlooked the fact that we're not actually around on that date. Can I therefore suggest the following Saturday (18th) instead, same time, same place? -

So, taking the advice into account, how about drinks at 8pm on Saturday 11th July in the Clockhouse? -

Hi there, we saw this thread a while ago having moved to the area last year and have been meaning to post on it. Great to see that it's up and running again. Tomorrow evening might be tricky for us, but we'll try and make it, if it goes ahead. -
I would also like to recommend Clive, who painted our bedroom last week. He did an excellent job, completed the work very quickly and to a high standard. He's extremely flexible, responds almost immediately to text messages and telephone calls and works very hard. We won't hesitate to use him again in future. Thanks very much, Clive.

Hello there, we've got a bit of a problem that I hope someone can help with. We ordered a dining table from Ebay recently but it didn't fit through our front door when it was delivered (stupidly, we had mis-calculated the dimensions of the hallway!). We therefore sent it to a friend's flat in Penge to store while we find a solution to the problem. We live in a first floor flat with a big bay window at the front. The table will easily fit through that bay window - we only moved in a few weeks ago and that was the way we got our sofa and armchair into the flat. We therefore need someone who can hoist the table up to the first floor and through the window. The big removals companies will charge a lot for this service (categorising it as a mini house move) so we're hoping to find someone local who has the expertise and equipment (i.e. some sort of hoist and some protective materials for the table) to complete the task. The job will involve collecting the table from Penge, bringing it to East Dulwich (Underhill Road) and carrying it in through the window. Clearly we'll need at least 2, probably 3 people, for the job. Any advice or quotes for this work would be greatly appreciated.
